6 Months Later: PlayStation VR

Pure PlayStation: 6 Months Later is where we go back and take a look at games (or in this case, hardware) and see what's happened in the six months since release. With all the patches, updates, and DLC being pushed out on a weekly basis, it's worth having a look. So, let's dig in, shall we?

OK article. But there needs to be more research done to provide readers with up to date information. There's also such a thing as having a 2nd or 3rd page unless your website can't go over so many characters. All things aren't perfect in the world of PSVR, but more information is out there.

In 6 months, there are more than 100 titles. No top 10 or 20 list in the article of PSVR titles considered the best like RE7. No mention of being able to watch 360 videos. No mention of being able to watch 3D bluray titles. You can already watch Netflix in cinema screen. But at least there was mention of the update that made tracking better.

Statik just came out.Gnog comes out tomorrow on the 2nd of May. Far point is a Sony published title with a Sony provided gun peripheral that comes out in 2 weeks. Star trek is a big multiplayer title that comes out in less than a month that's co-op with all 3 big VR headsets. No mention of Ace Combat 7 or Tekken 7. No mention or interview of Sony's new, big VR studio North West Studio.

How about looking into if Sony will have a social VR experience like Facebook has or valve announced just recently. Even Microsoft is upgrading their avatars for a reason. But just like they prototyped PSVR, they obviously are working on something just from these videos from GDC, etc.

GDC this year and last year

Whatever they are working on, they're not just sitting around. They're just silent. I think they know that they have to be ready for round two in the fall against Oculus, Vive and Microsoft's possible entry with their mixed reality headsets. E3 should be a good indicator of what's next. For PSVR and VR in general, lots of things are going on. Go look for it and provide us the information. Everyone wants bigger titles and more news. Including myself.

Kudos, better than the supposed journalist.

thanks for the informative comment. This should have been the article instead.

PS: that FarPoint

There are a lot more titles available on the other VR units and it probably sold even less headsets. I can't imagine Sony ever being fully committed to PSVR which is a shame since it costs more than the PS4, won't allow any exclusive content for the Pro model and was released midterm in the consoles release.

Sony has shown no real confidence that the games you buy today will even play on the PS5 which is likely only a few years away. The tech is cool but it's still not there. I have tried the best, Thrive, and even that isn't quite there visually with not high enough resolution. That did however give the best immersion with it's room scale and on high end PC hardware.

The PS5 will be a far greater experience but again may not get full support if it's another peripheral.

"Sony has shown no real confidence that the games you buy today will even play on the PS5"

why because sony hasn't come out and said games are backwards compatible and forwards compatible. please show me some proof that Sony, the company that has over 55+ million units out there and has the alrgest market share for consoles isnt confident in next gen.

beyond popular belief, Sony fans don't need to be told that our games will work on next gen systems, why? because we are playing on current gen systems. sony is focused on the now, and its proof is in its world wide domination.

Lack of confidence... Ge out of here with that moldy

freshslicepizza3320d ago

That's fine Goldby, go ahead and believe whatever direction Sony tells you. The fact of the matter is many would like library to also carry over. Especially with PSVR considering it came out midcycle and costs more than the PS4.

If people didn't want more choices Sony would not have pioneered backwards compatibility in the first place with the PS2. Or did everyone back then say Sony if giving us enough PS2 games therefore we don't need PS1 support. They wouldn't be remastering so many titles this generation either or offer services like PS Now.

My oh my you guys just keep supporting whatever is given at you.

Goldby3320d ago

@moldy,

I don't think you understand where i'm coming from. No where has sony said they aren't confident in the VR or backwards compatibility. just because a company doesn't say that they are confident doesn't make so. Ms hasn';t talked about Crackdown in depth, does that mean they aren't confident in it? of course not. but you seem to compare the two companies based on what only one of them states. so just because Sony is more focused on games than PR makes them less confident in their gaming library. how does that make any sense?

Goldby3320d ago

"The PS5 will be a far greater experience but again may not get full support if it's another peripheral."

Are you also suggesting that the PS5 will be peripheral for ps4.... i sure hope not,

freshslicepizza3320d ago

VR in the PS5, will it once again be a peripheral with limited support. What confidence is there in Sony going back to offering backwards compatibility? They stopped shorty after the PS3 came out until now with the PS4 not even supporting CD playback to play PS1 games or even PS2 support. So tell me again how anyone has any confidence Sony will offer it in the PS5. Besides you just confirmed PS4 owners don't care and only want new games. Thanks for providing your inside data tests. Let's just keep ignoring the top requests on the PlayStation forums in wanting BC and the ability to change you username.

But hey, as long as Sony keeps selling so well and have apologists like you quickly going after anyone who brings this up why would Sony even bother.

I really hope that in a future will be even better..cant wait for E3..since this will be the first proper E3 for PSVR ..plus cant wait for Farpoint too

I love PSVR, i haven't finished RE7 because my backlog is just beyond stupid, the only thing i didn't like about PSVR is the low quality image :/

Best games and experiences so far are:

- Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (Expect to have your stomach turned, and those jump scares though)
- Star Wars Battlefront VR (Flying an X-Wing, a dream come true)
- Job Simulator (Watching another person playing is pure gold)
- RE7 (I don't get scared easily and holy shit my hands were sweating the whole time)
- Mortal Blitz (I expected nothing and damn it was so immersive)
- Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (playing with my girlfriend was so much fun)

C-H-E-F3320d ago

You managed to beat RE7 in full VR? lOl DUDE!!! I'm like 2hrs in I play like 10/15 minutes and soon as some crap happens I'm like yup breaky break. I look at my VR in fear now actually LMAO yup in fear... I'm at the part when you're running from that big dude after the garage scene. So you know how pathetic I am... lOl 10/15 minutes every 2-3 weeks ahaha.

Master of Unlocking3321d ago

How come nobody ever mentions you can watch 360 degree porn with PS VR? That alone makes me consider buying it at some point.
Oh, and for 3D Blu-Rays, too. If done right it's gotta be a bit as if you had your own 3D-ready movie theater, which is awesome! As for porn if done right it's gotta be as if you had your own, er... yeah, you know....

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2154d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
