Stop Preordering Video Games

It seems like everywhere you look, a new video game is broken. Your time and your money deserve better.

I'm a simple man...

I see Naughty Dog, Atlus or Blizzard on the boxart I pre-order

mikeslemonade3224d ago

It's the wrong way of thinking. Pre-order shows interests to stakeholders. It provides good outlook and motivation for developing more games. You commoners acts without knowing consequences. Sure you can do whatever you want at the personal level because 1 sale doesn't matter, but don't say the whole thing is wrong.

Kornholic3224d ago

Only one of them deserves a pre-order. Pro tip: it's Naughty Dog.

A lot of games sell the most copies with per orders than post release sales. Publishers know hype and graphics sells, not game content. So if people keep pre ordering we will keep getting broken and rushed games.
Wait, maybe save money on a sale, and you'll be getting a better version of the game with updates. Some people say if you wait the multiplayer will be dead, but then it isn't a very good game if that happens huh?

I regularly buy games on sale. If someone pre-orders a game it means they want it day 1 and there's nothing wrong with that. Do you also tell people to stop watching movies the day they release?

We keep getting broken and rushed games because consumers don't actually care enough to stop buying them, instead they just rant on the Internet and expect publishers to care.

kneon3224d ago

I used to pre-order a lot of games, at one point I had 11 games on pre-order. But that was because around E3 there would be deals where you could get up to 30% off by pre-ordering 3 or more games.

Some games were ordered as much as 3 years before delivery, by the time I got the last few I was getting them for half price due to price increases since I'd ordered.

Vystrel3224d ago

I agree articles telling people to stop buying something they want is not going to change anything.
But I blame rushed games on the massive amounts of sales they have during pre orders. They have all the reason to overhype because any problems with this game will be fixed in the 'next' game.

I don't pre-order annual franchises, sports games, or anything made by Ubisoft, EA, or Bethesda. Following these simple rules I have rarely gone wrong.

AzubuEntus3224d ago

To be fair, Bethesda games are hit or miss. Some games like TES IV Oblivion, Fallout 3, and TES V: Skyrim are incredible and worth preordering. If Bethesda were to announce the sixth Elders Scrolls game (not a crappy MMORPG) at this E3 or sometime in the future, I'm definitely pre-ordering it.

godashram3225d ago

I normally don't preorder unless it's something that will be sold out 10000% before release (like the Zelda BOTW Master Edition) or a get a decent discount (amazon and best buy).

Beyond that, I can wait.

Taero3224d ago

Well, idk about best buy but amazon gives you the discount up to two weeks past release date.

godashram3224d ago (Edited 3224d ago )

I knew about amazon, which is why I plan to grab mario kart 8 this week :) Kinda broke last week.

jaymacx3224d ago

Best buy is any new game. Also Lego dimensions, sky landers, and Amiibo.

I hope the Switch 1 reaches 160M+ before production stops. 😅

There was a worldwide chip shortage when PS5 released so not an apples to apples comparison.

Christopher5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

Pretty sure Japan had plenty of PS5 on the shelves to buy no matter what. The fact is, Japan has moved to mobile gaming over standard home console. Software sales alone show that.

All I want is a physical disc release of remastered D2 that doesn't require online check-ins.

I've lost complete interest. Too much FOMO with seasons as it is, now it's expansions? No thanks.

Michiel198959m ago

what fomo? everything gets reset each season and you start new characters unless you're playing on the regular servers and then you're already maxxed anway and just need to participate in the new season stuff.
