Xbox at E3 2017: What to Reasonably Expect from Microsoft

Obviously, their presser is going to be centered around Scorpio. But, what else should we reasonably expect from Microsoft at E3 2017?

Mostly Scorpio.

They will also probably finally have release dates for a few of the four exclusive games they have been talking about for years and a few third party games that will be on the other consoles and PC. Given how small their booth is this year I wouldn't expect more than that.

ABizzel13313d ago (Edited 3313d ago )

Honestly they need the best E3 they've ever had, because there's a HUGE amount of potential coming from both Sony and Nintendo for E3.

Sony has actual releases and footage from The Last of Us (trailer at best) God of War, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Days Gone, Spiderman, Crash Bandicoot, and Knack 2. It's also about time to start seeing more from Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7 (exclusive or Nah), Hellblade, Detroit Become Human, Death Stranding (honestly this can wait another year), Kingdom Hearts 3 (not exclusive), Sucker Punch's new game, what their other studios are working on, and of course what's going on with PSVR. And that's all before the way of 3rd party games rush to the console as well.

Games: A (a diverse and great list of exclusives backed by huge 3rd party games....need more co-op games)
How to A+: PS4 price cut down bundle to $249 ($199 holiday), PS4 Pro $349 ($299 holiday), more games

Nintendo has a potential huge E3 coming up as well for the Switch. Arms will just be releasing, but they also have Super Mario Odyssey, Sonic, Minecraft (great for the Switch), Splatoon 1.5, Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon Quest 10 & 11 (11 on PS4 / 3DS). Also it will be the final story on western 3rd party support once we see what version of Skyrim hits the Switch, along with NBA 2K, Fifa, Steep and hopefully a lot more get revealed. Hopefully there's also information about Pokemon Starz, and a few other sequels to franchises. The big push for Nintendo however needs to be western 3rd party support. We already know Nintendo's first party games will be there and are Day 1's for their fans, and the JP support is already looking strong making Switch a must have for JP, but western 3rd party will be it's greatest weakness and what hold the Switch back.

Games: B+ (Diverse but heavily JP oriented games, which is fine, but they NEED western support)
Potential: A with the right announcements (Pokemon, Metroid, Smash 1.5, and more)
How to A+: Price cut down to $249 + 1/2 Switch (or any other cheap game), announce the potential games

As you can see MS has their work seriously cut out for them when it comes to games. Sony and Nintendo have MEGATONS, just waiting to be released throughout the rest of 2017 and into 2018. Forza 7, Crackdown, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay, Phantom Dust, Cuphead, and possibly a Halo 6 trailer aren't nearly enough and Scorpio alone can't fix that. MS needs to have some new IPs and some huge ones at that, and they need to show Scropio blowing the other consoles out of the water when it comes to running games on that hardware and at a $499 or less price (Native 4K alone isn't going to be enough).

Games: C+ (Their current exclusives look good, but they're losing the quantity battle, and franchise fatigue)
Scorpio: ?? (for an A+ score, $399 majority of games run 4K native, with 4K textures, and enhanced graphics)
Potential: B+ (tell us you've split your teams in 2 like Sony and Nintendo, and Halo devs have a New IP, Gears dev has a new IP, and you've built a new team from some of your Second Party devs, making a New IP)

How to A+ (They need several new exclusives games, that have amazing showings)

@AB-Sony and Nintendo are absolutely going to destroy this year's E3 .

Sony still has teams that have games to show and its clear that they've prepared for a complete and utter domination for the entire generation, it's even looking like they've been pacing for something like this since before the generation even started.

Nintendo releasing a new platform they have to have a very dominant performance this year. They are in a position where they have to have a slam dunk they are losing market share and they need to regain trust within the community.

notachance3312d ago

it's gonna be a borefest I tell you

at least it's gonna be funny, what with all the XB fanboys mocking all the other consoles real megatons but somehow desperately excited for what... cuphead? sea of thieves?
until the sales for those titles come out and it turns out they're not really excited after all

Looks like PS4 guys got this one covered. I got nothing

gangsta_red3312d ago

Good to know that their always first on the scene to provide an unfiltered point of view to the topic.

XanderZane3313d ago

You're delusional if you think that's all they will be showing. What you've listed will probably be the first 10-15 mins of the show. I'm sure the show will probably be 90mins or more. I'll be listing every game after the show is over.

@ShadowKnight
Of course you absolutely agree. You're a troll who hates everything XBox. Why would you disagree? lol!!

3313d ago
Dragonscale3312d ago

@garfield they've hardly had any all generation tbh. @xand, we'll see who's delusional, apart from scorpio its gonna be pathetic.

notachance3312d ago

with Sony the guessing game is more reasonable because the question is 'what's xxx studio is working on right now', we know that there are studios thus we know there will be games coming

with XB the guessing game is... what? half of the questions are hopeful wish that MS gonna pull an exclusive from a god-knows-what studio
the other half is the usual Halo, Gears, Forza...

XanderZane3312d ago

@Garfield81
I was actually replying back to the other troll on here "tyasia0". I'm still playing exclusives from a year ago. Not worrying about exclusives, as more are coming and exclusives aren't the only things I play on my XB1. If I want to play more exclusives, I just turn on my PS4. lol!! Don't have any issues with exclusives. See my point?

They can't talk much about third party games. Since Sony made deals with Destiny 2 and I believe COD too.

Chris123312d ago

Who would have guessed that all the known Xbox haters would trash this article. Well done guys, Sony would be proud. SMH

JackBNimble3312d ago

Well if MS did more then just talk this gen...

gangsta_red3312d ago

@Jack

Wouldn't matter what MS did, they would be right here.

Scorpio - games= bad taste to XboxOne owners.

LastCenturyRob3313d ago

Not remotely... By the time the Scorpio is out the X1 would have been out for a while. Time to move forward.

Raiden3311d ago

Nope, better looking games, that uses the hardware the games will still run on OG X1, BUT not as good as the Scorpio, so no x1 owners are left behind, it's like a pc's not all are built the say and yet the same software is able to work, well that how I see it.

RommyReigns3313d ago (Edited 3313d ago )

Scorpio including release date, then a ton of games. I don't expect them to bog themselves down with stuff like TV and hololens this year.

mark_parch3313d ago

agree they won't show hololens. slight chance they could show minecraft and fallout in vr

slate913313d ago

Won a ticket to their e3 briefing through Fan Fest! I'm so excited!

XanderZane3313d ago

I've been to enough E3's and console reveals to last a lifetime.

mark_parch3313d ago

slate91 nice one mate that's going to be epic. it's like christmas day for me just watching at home. being there is going to be amazing

slate913312d ago

Thanks bro lol. And i describe e3 the exact same way. Its just like christmas day xD

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio27d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing26d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit26d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing26d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

They would be better breaking up what valued assets they still have and put them out to auction for the competition.
There is no more financial gain for them on any trajectory in the entertainment space.
