Nice article! I agree. I think Switch will change the console landscape over the next couple of years. Fully expect Switch to give PS4 a run from this point forward IF the Switch brings in appealing third party software. Nintendo cannot do it alone. And I don't mean Call of Duty, Destiny, Battlefield.....all that. No one is buying Switch for those types of games. Hopefully, third party will create unique experiences for Switch as well as port over older games from developers like Atlus and Platinum.

Nah i personally don't think so. Don't get me wrong, i'm not dissing Switch and it big launch success, i also can't wait to get one, but the "el classico" of console gaming will still be Playstation vs Xbox.

If sales are how you judge this stupid console war (and since the Scorpio's specs got announced, it's funny how hardware suddenly stopped mattering to the fanboys) then the Switch is in no way Sony's biggest competitor. Sony has 60 million units shipped. Nintendo's at 2.7 million now, and they won't break double digits for a long time because they're terrible at supplying any kind of demand. If we're going by pure sales (or units shipped now), Sony has no competition because they're too far ahead for anything but a massive screw up on their part to close the gap before the next console generation, and in that case it will be Microsoft that overtakes them first, not Nintendo.

Nintendo is doing well now because they just release a new console. I personally don't belive Nintendo built a future proof console.

Switch is in a unique position it can run almost any game and you can take it with you. I'm going to cali in June and the plane rides typically suck. But it won't this time.

Nintendo's consoles are not competitors to Sony and Microsoft any more. they complement them and ideally work as a secondary consoles. I still remember during the reveal of the Gamecube , when shigeru miyamoto had said that they wanted the GameCube to reside beside the PS2 and not a main competitor to it. they failed to achieve that with GameCube because it did not introduce any thing different to what the PS2 can do. but they have managed to achieve that goal with the Nintendo Wii because it was completely different and can offer something that can not seen on the xbox360 and the ps3. with the Nintendo Switch , they may achieve this goal again. actually they may sell more consoles than the ps4 world wide. but even if they have managed to sell millions units of Nintendo Switch , it will remain as secondary console that complement other hardcore consoles.

It's really too early right now to say one way or the other. At the moment, evereyone is high on the Zelda love. It's like the beginning of a relationship where everything is sweet, and wonderful and lovely. It's new and lustful.

Let's see how things work out when PS4/XB1 start getting Battlefront 2, Call of Duty, Read Dead 2, Shadow of Mordor, and all the other big, AAA games that won't be coming to Switch.

Nintendo does the same games over and over again. Nothing wrong with that cause Mario and Zelda are their cash cows but Sony are the only ones investing in new ips. There's really no competition at all.

I own a PS4, XBoxOneS, and a Switch, and I can tell you right now that if a multiplat game is released to these consoles I will always buy the Switch version.

It's already happening; I purchased Snake Pass, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and all of the Neo Geo titles for my Switch instead of the other 2 consoles. As bigger games are released I will continue to choose the Switch version first.

The portability factor is huge. Table top mode is fantastic. And playing on my TV feels like a full console experience. I like all 3 consoles, but Switch offers the greatest versatility.

Like the Wii and Wii U, I see the Switch as more of a secondary console. People play for first party title but for third, they'll go straight for PS4, Xbox or PC.

Both PlayStation and its fan have plenty to do within the PS ecosystem. So much in fact anyone who frequents gaming news can see it. Its always PS and Xbox in the headlines mostly and Nintendo pops up here and there with their own news. Even with the Switch out, its still mostly PS and Xbox post.

Wii U sold what, 13 Million units and lasted 3 years - and you get these people thinking Nintendo Switch is going to just become some unstoppable fucking force because Space Magic? Because they believe the Temporary Hype of 'selling out' after its launch - as is what happens every generation? We cannot predict when Switch will suddenly stop being a trend as Wii U has, but it is more expected than unexpected - because I personally don't see Nintendo having learned a lesson as to WHY Wii U failed. I'd love to be proven wrong, but unless you can get a straight answer from them, and ask Nintendo Uppers "Why do you think Wii U failed and what have you learned from its failure?" - It's a question they've never been asked, and will likely avoid or never answer. There is no lesson earned, all they think is they'll pump out a New Console, a New gimmick, New sequels of the Same IPs and think that a few 3rd Party deals will save their ass.

in a normal world the switch should be remade and reselled, with the propad included and an inferior price, also games like tloz botw and mario kart 8 "2.0" are 7 or 8/10, not 10/10.

I know that fans of Nintendo are still salty over MS absolutely pulverising the Gamecube with their first take, but XBox One (even in this generation) sold more in less time, and has an infinitely healthier eco-system to boot.

Yeah... Zelda. A game that clearly shows how pathetic the Switch's hardware is. But even with that being said, what else does Nintendo have up its sleeve that is of the same lofty calibre? Not much... Not much at all.

Sony had gotten just as complacent and stubborn as Nintendo used to be, and then came out with an awesome PS4. Wouldn't it be great to have a Ps4P?

Switch's adoption demographics are young adult men, which isn't young children. Most gamers aren't fanboys like the n4g crowd. Sure it's too early to tell how well the Switch is really going to do but Nintendo could've easily just dominated the handheld market with a home console, in much the same way people bought Ps2's for the DVD player.

I don't see how they don't continue to do well, but that's good for everyone, not just Nintendo fans.

Just because I'm not a MS fan doesn't mean I don't want them to do well.

Disagree with the article. Sony has nothing to worry about. Sony has great first and third party games. Switch just has first party games as we know third party support on Nintendo is lackluster.

As well nintendo knows they can only compete with Sony Microsoft in the home console market that's why they came up with this "hybrid" jack of all trades master of non system to try and carve out a different audience to avoid competition.

They want to be the only ones in the space cus they are unwilling to compete.

I actually agree if Nintendo release some killer exclusives like Pokemon ect. Maybe get some 3rd party games as well and it will probably be Sony's main threat.

Only because it's new. It'll slow down considerably after the first year, as 3rd party falls by the wayside and the Japanese market hits saturation.

Nintendo plays to it's own audience. Nothing more, Nothing less.

Imo, I still think the big 2 is Sony and Microsoft in terms of it's the XBO platform competing with the PS4 platform. My reasoning is 2 fold:

1. Switch has just released so it therefore doesn't have a solid fan base number right now so XBO and its variants have more of a marketshare to work with AND boost to compete with.

2. The switch seems to be going the same route as its predecessors in that the big 3rd party games (which sell the most numbers) are not going to on that platform which could really hurt it. It's the big 3rd party multiplats that sell the most and what the more casual players are more interested in when they look for a console. So when all the consoles have the same multiplats, the 2nd thing to look at is exclusives. With the Switch missing the first port of call I think it'll struggle with those gamers.

Good.. Thats the way it should be because they are simply the best gaming companies there is.. Im glad the switch is doing well because people are truly missing out on fantastic games by dissing them.. Sony is great in its own right as well.. Both of them are equally great to me in their own ways. I must say though that all the companies are being dicks with upgraded consoles, remasters, etc.. I need to restrain myself from buying them right away at full price because its the same game with tweaks..

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
