If there's a recurring theme in our discussions with the hardware architects of Project Scorpio's new processor, it's customisation. And to be fair, PlayStation 4 system architect Mark Cerny made very similar points when I met up with him last year to discuss PS4 Pro. "It's not a process of calling up AMD and saying I'll take this part, this part and this part," says Kevin Gammill, Group Program Manager of the Xbox Core Platform. "A lot of really specific custom work went into this."

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

LucasArts gave Jango Fett his own game in 2002, and it pulled Star Wars into a much dirtier, rougher, and more interesting corner of the galaxy.

Dear team,
Xbox has always been different.
We started with a simple idea. Games should bring people together through shared experiences. That led to the first Xbox in 2001, Xbox Live in 2002, and new ways to connect, from friends lists and achievements to parties and play across devices. Today, Xbox reaches over 500 million players around the world, with some of the most important franchises in entertainment.
If they go back to exclusive games it at least shows that they are finally getting it. They would be turning down immediate money for something that will potentially workout in the long term.
Only issue is they've already opened Pandora's box. A lot of their base has moved to PC or jumped to PS. So will be a long road to get back on track.
We have been saying this from day one exclusives are a must if you are going to be selling hardware look at Nintendo and Sony before Jim Ryan. That's the proven formula. You had some that were deluded and blinded by loyalty accepting that multiplat was the future and that MS was merely getting ahead of where the industry was headed, but at least they can finally see the light and agree with what everyone has been saying for a decade+
Despite all of that, it's clear that Microsoft's Xbox division is broken beyond repair.
Interesting article. It is clear MS putt a lot of effort into this machine.
""It's a completely unique design... you wouldn't be able to buy this anywhere else and really, we created this is in conjunction with AMD and it is a nice unique part for Scorpio," says Nick Baker, Distinguished Engineer, Silicon.
"Years before any silicon arrived back from chip manufacturing giant TSMC, the Xbox team began by carrying a vast range of simulation and analysis. As Project Scorpio is effectively a mid-generation refresh - an extension of the existing console designed primarily for 4K screens - existing game code captured at a granular level via the PIX (Performance Investigator for Xbox) tool could be run on potential hardware designs, well before Microsoft went to AMD."
"We did multiple PIX captures from every single game and ran them on the emulator," Andrew Goossen, Technical Fellow, Graphics, tells us - a process that proved invaluable for validating Scorpio's back-compat capabilities. "We did over 30,000 emulator runs, which is a big contributor to Nick's total cycle count because we had to make sure that we were going to land with that 100 per cent compatibility [with Xbox One]."
Every single game was tested on the hardware? Damn..
Quite good I'm all fired up!!
The more and more I hear about Scorpio, the more impressive it gets. I'm definitely getting one, but I wouldn't be shocked if it ain't cheap. If it's $500 or less, it sounds like an abosolute steal for the tech....not only vs other consoles, but vs PC market as well. At $500 it would be competeing directly with PCs that cost about 3x+ or more. (Luckily for me, I've already traded enough stuff at Gamestop that I already have a $500 scorpio paid off).
the obviously most interesting part is that they are saying that with the costumizations it is possible to upgrade a 900p30fps game to a 1080p60fps, if that is true, then this is some incredible piece of hardware.
i REALLY hope this is a 399$ machine as i would buy it for that price. well if you check you can create pretty much an equivalent PC for 550$ by yourself, now assuming that they could cut cost by using their own tech and making deals through mass produce i really hope that it could reach that although 449$ is more probable at this point.
