Capcom talks Resident Evil 8: 'We're already thinking about various plans for the next game'

Resident Evil 7 isn't long out but Capcom is already talking Resident Evil 8 and what's next for the series.

naruga3335d ago (Edited 3335d ago )

ohh god ...what they ill do now in order to destroy more the franchise ??
...Capcom if you read N4G , listen to this--RE7 was a complete abomination not all related to RE, completely forget the damn thing, develop a new RE with mechanics similar to RE4 but without ridiculous cults and president s daughters

...add with appealable characters (not ugly f%^ks like remade RE7 Chris) and realllistic scenarios like RE1 along with some inspired monsters enemies like hunters , keep the original zombies as a trademark of the series...

Fishy Fingers3334d ago

I pray to god that no developer ever takes inspiration/advice from N4Gs comment section.

Gaming_Cousin3334d ago

Resident Evil 7 was awesome. This guy is just butthurt

Nu3334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

Me and naruga are scared of RE7 it's scary as f

ZeroX98763334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

RE7 brought back the horror in the genre. Maybe it's because I'm older now than when I played the first one (9 years old back then), but the horror in previous titles weren't much scary compared to RE7.

CrimsonWing693334d ago

Dude RE7 was fantastic, god I hope none of the devs listen to you.

HeisenbergX3334d ago

Why would they listen to this idiot xD ?? nobody on the planet agrees with him

3334d ago
Kosic3334d ago

A comment saying Resident evil 7 isn't Resident evil. Then goes to compare it to re4.... an over hyped game...

Go back to the core routes of re1 and 2.

Re7 (in my opinion) was a much better game since re3.

CorndogBurglar3334d ago

Yes....realistic scenarios in RE1 like that gigantic Snake and Shark you had to fight.

I love how hurt your BH is over RE7. It makes me laugh every time you comment on it.

Kurdishcurse3334d ago

That sounds even dumber than 4 actually. Naah. They know whats better for the feanchise than mikami himself, Pretty sure your input on the subject doesnt matter. Re7 was beyond fantastic and easily surpassed the dreadful re4 by a long shot imo. Hell, 7 is more resident evil than re4 could ever dream to be.

3rd Person or nothing

I just hope the success of the Resident Evil 2 Remake will be bigger then RE7 and remind them old school survival horror can be updated while still be super fun. If they did that for the Resident Evil Remake in 2002 as they updated the gameplay for technology that was available to them at the time then I don't see why they think it's impossible to do it for the present. That doesn't mean out dated fixed camera angles and choppy movement, just update things like that to make it better for todays audience. What they did was the safe path and just made P.T/Outlast/Five Nights: Resident Evil with half arsed old school features from the original games. Better then RE6 but still not there...I mean lets face it anything is better then RE6, Operation Raccoon City or Umbrella Corps.

naruga3335d ago (Edited 3335d ago )

ok i mostly agree with what you say but i disagree that RE6 was the worst from every RE entry ...some segments were ridiculous (all the COD parts) though the rest of the game had very good mechanichs and the adversaries were some of the most inspired -close -to REsident Evil-lore in the franchise (these insect related Javo and all the bypoducts were top notch) also it had perfect splattering fun (you could literally tear apart enemies -even now sometime i replay mercenaries characters)...it was not the worst , i rank it better than RE5 (and far superior to trash-Revelations,Operation raccoon city) just because the very well made adversaries (RE5 majini were idiotic as f and all the rest tentacle monters were lame at least) and very good combat system/mechanices along with the right feeling of gunning down monsters ....RE6 was needing someone to tone down the ridicoulness otherwise was a good game that was still feeling as a RE game , not like the abomination RE7 became .

TXIDarkAvenger3334d ago

lolwut.

Revelations is way better than RE5 and RE6. It was the closest thing to the old Resident Evil titles. RE6 is definitely the worst game in the main series.

_-EDMIX-_3334d ago

Liking RE6 by default makes anything you post here irrelevant.

Sorry dude bro, RE is not going Gears Of Poor any more.

Get over it.

Your not an RE fan, you are RE5 and 6 fan, you like its dude bro shooters lol

Revelations 1 and 2 blows RE5 and 6 out of the water

ZeroX98763334d ago

as long as they keep movements fluid and the horror is really scary. the old titles were scary when I was 9, not right now lol. Unless it's not an horror game.

-Foxtrot3334d ago

Old ones are scarier and better in gameplay with the remakes then the new ones

3334d ago
BABY-JEDI3334d ago

I'm guessing you didn't play Resi7 in VR. Your pitch(fork) really comes across as being less progressive & more towards nostalgia. Enjoy the revamps & let the rest of us enjoy the real survival horror 😉

-Foxtrot3334d ago

LOL real survival horror

Probably only played RE when you saw it was like Outlast

Gaming_Cousin3333d ago (Edited 3333d ago )

Resident Evil 7 is nothing like Outlast. There is something really wrong with you

HeisenbergX3334d ago

That's never gonna happen geez when are u going the get that through your thick nostalgia skulls

_-EDMIX-_3334d ago

"I just hope the success of the Resident Evil 2 Remake will be bigger then RE7"

Not likely.

How many remakes where bigger then their originals?

RE2 moved close to 6 million units, if the remake is able to move that same amount, I still think you will see RE8 be in first person and simply have RE3 remake in 3rd. Mind you, for all we know, RE2 remake will be both in 3rd and the option for first if you consider they are likely not going to have fixed cameras. Adding the option would not be impossible.

RE7 is a legit RE game, its the most legit RE game since Code Veronica bud, deal with it.

Not P.T as pretty sure they didn't invent first person, not Outlast as you have a gun sooooooooooo not sure where your comparisons came from when the game has limited ammo, limited guns (NOT BOUGHT GUNS WITH MONEY) limited life, puzzles etc. THAT IS OLD RE CONCEPT kid.

I don't even think you've played the old RE's like the old school fans to even know what your talking about.

-Foxtrot3334d ago (Edited 3334d ago )

You know it's funny like 3-4 people said after I posted this "I bet EDMIX will comment to tell you how *wrong* you are as he can't stand letting it go" and ta-daa here you are

Lets get started...

"How many remakes where bigger then their originals?"

Clearly you didn't see how many sales and reception the RE remake and RE0 got when they were finally brought over to other consoles after 13-14 years. It was unreal and clearly shows the interest is still there with these kind of games...imagine if it was a brand new game like...oh I don't know a RE2 Remake. Capcom wanted 4 million sales DAY ONE for RE7 and they didn't get anywhere near that. Now will the RE2 Remake get 4 million, god no but it might generate the same if not a little more then RE7. However regardless of sales if they do it right it will be better in quality and actually feel like a RE game.

RE7 is not a legit RE game. It half arses most of the RE gameplay features from the older games. Difference is we've had shit thrown at us with RE6, Umbrella Corps, Operation Raccoon City and the like that it's obviously going to look 10 times better then it actually is. Imagine that game coming fresh off RE3 or even RE4...it would have been received so well.

It's clear that they saw P.T half way through RE7s development and changed things up quickly. The RE .5 games during their development stages always show massive design changes to the final game so I honestly think the RE6.5 game would have looked so different to what we got. Look how better RE4.5 was to RE5.

"I don't even think you've played the old RE's like the old school fans to even know what your talking about"

You want to know something, you are the most arrogant ass on this site. I'm not joking, you spew so much shit in your massive long paragraphs and say things like this all high and mighty when really it's just a cover as you're the real person who doesn't know what they are talking about, you probably do your long paragraph crap to loose people so they forget this. I probably know more about RE then you do in your entire little pinky finger.

I'm not surprised you are like this though, you love supporting games which change into completely different rather then evolving into something worthy of the franchises name...like how you defend the new Battlefront to death for example.

_-EDMIX-_3333d ago (Edited 3333d ago )

"Clearly you didn't see how many sales and reception the RE remake and RE0 got"

Theses where not remakes, those were remasters....

"RE7 is not a legit RE game"

Sure bud. Thats nice....

"you love supporting games which change into completely different rather then evolving into"

I like buying what I like. Oh yea, I forget we are not allowed to buy what we like, only what Fox likes....

Sorry to hurt you snowflake but I buy what I want with my money, it is my own choice to do so.

You love hating on games that are evolving into something worthy of the franchises name and love games that change into completely different...like how you defend RE5 and 6 to death for example

=)

You are waaaay too emotional for this bud. Lighten up. You seem to get so soft when ever someone disagrees with you. No one is looking to hurt your feelings. Calling names isn't really going to help your point, it only proves to you its very personal and emotional lol

Seriously, get out of your feelings and focus on the topic at hand.

You legit made a career out of hating RE7 LOL! I played it, liked it and can confirm it is the most RE that has released since RE Code Veronica. Limited ammo, limited weapons, limited heath, puzzles etc. That is the old RE regardless of how hard you are trying to avoid that topic. I love how you never even responded to that. LMFAO! Too much facts? Struck a nerve? OH its not a RE, but I can't tell you why, but its just not, says the person that DIDN'T PLAY ALL THE RE'S! lol Sure.

Gazondaily3333d ago

Let me sum up EDMIX posts...

"Sure bud...

Condescending rambling nonsense that goes on for paragraphs"

Don't waste your time!

Please more vr playing on psvr and pro has been the gaming experience of the generation for me

BenRC013334d ago

Couldn't agree more, RE7 in VR is an entirely different experience. Truly astonishing.

generic-user-name3334d ago

Agreed, VR made this amazing for me.

BenRC013334d ago

Re7 was the best re yet, well done capcom, more of the same please, leave all that clunky 90s gameplay in the bin and let's have something relevant again.
In VR it was the best gaming experience I've ever had.

_-EDMIX-_3333d ago (Edited 3333d ago )

Agreed. They did a great job on that game.

Limited ammo, limited weapons, limited heath, puzzles YES PLEASE!

No more Gears Of War clones please, I want RE to stay RE, not COD.

Luucifa3334d ago

Just sell the IP to someone else allready, you have no idea what you're doing anymore. (Such a shame.... back in the day you knew that a game was great if the box art had "Capcom" written on it.)

But Is More Time in Games Really More Fun?

Everyone always says that longer is better when it comes to games, but is that really true? Does the addition of time always add more value?

I'll be honest the shorter games typically don't get day one purchases from me. Some I will but it's gotta be next level. So you want my 60 70 dollars don't throw to many 6 to 8 hour games at me.

LordoftheCritics822d ago

''But Is More Time in Games Really More Fun?

Yes it is....for the investors.

anast822d ago

@Lord

Definitely true for live service games.

anast822d ago

Game writers want shorter games to make their jobs easier.

The rest of us have different tastes in games. My 5 favorite games of all time are Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, RDR2, CP2077, Last of Us II, and BG3. These are all mostly long games and the fun to be had is through the roof.

BrainSyphoned822d ago

Back in Cyberpunk again after a run through Elden Ring and Skyrim before that.
With Stardew Valley 1.6 coming out soon I'll be hitting 1k hours in it as well. I like some short pallet cleansers like Returnal or Pacific Drive but they are just quick hits between replays of immersive titles or for long work weeks.

Demetrius821d ago

Just got stardew on switch and eastward octopia dlc both are mf vibes

lellkay822d ago

Quality wins. If it's short and quality good. if it's long and quality good.

ChasterMies822d ago

“Everyone always says that longer is better when it comes to games”

100% not true. The majority of people don’t finish games, and “short” games continue to sell. I think the gaming audience has long moved past the dollar per hour fallacy.

shinoff2183821d ago

I really don't think alot of us have. I'm willing to spend 30 dollars or so for a shorter game. The more I get out of it the more I'm willing to pay. Aside from a few. Uncharted day 1, last of us day 1, etc. Jrpgs day 1, their usually longer. I'd buy gta day 1. The more I get out of a game the more I justify the price. I'm not trying to shit on shorter games at all because I like those to. It's just how I prefer to spend my money.

Resident Evil 8 Quest 3 Gameplay - Ethan

CG writes: In this video we use Praydog’s free-of-charge REFramework VR mod for PCVR using the Quest 3 and Virtual Desktop Combo. It’s an iconic scene from Resident Evil 8 (Resident Evil Village). As already extensively documented, the VR mod is pretty fantastic and adds motion control support. Running on Quest 3 almost feels like a native VR game aside from no interactions with inanimate objects which the game doesn’t really need to feel like VR. With such great visuals and character models, Resident Evil 8 Quest 3 is up there with the best VR experiences to-date. In this video, we role-play a little with the Ethan character who messes-up pretty badly in this scene. Would be interesting if developers actually included an audio option to mute just the player character so people could make their own dialogue for these types of videos. Either way, listening back and we think there’s some resemblance to the Darkness character from The Darkness video game.

I really can't wait until we have headsets with wider field of view. I enjoy VR, I've owned a Rift, Quest 2, Valve Index and now a PSVR2. Village is great on the PSVR2 but I always have this sense that there are blinders on my eyes like the police use on horses. Pimax is unfortunately the only company offering a very wide field of view and I say unfortunately because they are a pain to set up and deal with overall.

It's been so many years since VR first was released and progress has been really slow. I realize the sales aren't making companies investing a lot of money into the space but I think it would take off if they fixed the FOV, smaller form factor, and clever solutions to motion sickness. I've worked up my tolerance to VR motion sickness but that's something that needs to be fixed if the general public will pick it up. I'm glad the PSVR2 has foveated rendering (one of the very few headsets to have this feature), games look great on it.

I hope the Apple Vision Pro will be a large step forward in these areas so that in 1-2 years time we'll get a cheaper version with similar specs.

bunt-custardly921d ago

Problem with wider FOV is you need more screen real-estate to be rendered making for more GPU power requirments. I assume the way the headsets are designed have this in mind aside from as you say Pimax. Having tried Pimax 8K the canted displays cause eye strain issues for some people. So there are trade-offs with these things.

Resident Evil will need one eventually, our favourite old school characters are getting old in game and they won’t be around for much longer. Capcom should use a remake of the original Resident Evil as their reboot and update the game so the Arklay Mansion incident happens in the 2020s so the characters are young again. After this game they can do anything they want with Chris, Jill, Claire, Leon etc. Hopefully they won’t continue the new timeline in real time with us so the characters won’t age so quickly again.

Halo needs one because I think they’ve done so many novels and the like where they expect you to have read everything to understand their main games.

Same could be said for Kingdom Hearts, they expect to have played all the side games and even the current online game they have going on with the upcoming mobile game Missing Link. KH4 could have started a good softboot for the franchise but even in KH3 with Maleficent’s side plot where she was looking for the black box, those plot elements are from the MMO Kingdom Hearts X. It’s kind of a joke now how convoluted the story has become and yet they still continue to do it.

Assassins Creed needs to go back to the beginning and make a game what AC was all about. I thought AC Mirage would do that but the main character is someone introduced in Valhalla and the gameplay video I saw he could teleport, like it was some power similar to Dishonoreds “Blink” which is beyond silly for this kind of game, it’s not even the First Civilisations technology aswell.

Rebel_Scum969d ago

Mass Effect is one but don’t include the reapers.

Strike Series needs one as nothing has come out since the PS1 days.

And maybe something from the Landstalker/Alundra lineage.
