Why ponder this thought I wonder? In my opinion trying to make more currency than usual. Same with Sony of course, but Sony is more subtle in my eyes.

Ashlen3203d ago

Well to be fair basically all Microsoft games this gen have had built in microtransactions and none of Sony's games have had them.

So I'm not sure why you are lumping Sony up with them. In fact Sony games (other than Uncharted) have been relatively DLC free.

So I think you should give credit where due when it comes to Sony.

TheUndertaker853203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

LittleBigPlanet is full of micro transactions

MLB The Show, Hustle Kings, and other titles also fall in line with either micro transactions or DLC.

Further products like Gran Turismo have previously offered DLC or micro transactions, a valid point due to GT Sport coming soon. God of War Ascension also did, valid because of an upcoming God of War title.

MAG also offered micro transactions toward the end of its lifetime.

"...none of Sony's games have had them. "
Yeah that is straight up lies....

TankCrossing3203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

Driveclub had them, Uncharted had them... and some people class The Order 1886 as a microtransaction in itself ;)

MS are worse though. It is pretty hard to list MS games that don't have microtransactions. Maybe Quantum Break? I haven't actually played it yet, but it is hard to see how transactions would fit there. Nothing would surprise me though.

Trez12343203d ago

All publishers do it. Some more than others but they all do it.

christocolus3203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

Dude at least do some research b4 making such false claims.

@Ashlen

I might of say that wrong. I meant that as a business, not the games. As companies trying to gain more revenue to pay off all the stuff. Sony = subtle means they never put Microtransactions in games.

Ashlen3203d ago

How is Sony subtle in any way at all?

They have basically tried to make their profit the traditional most straight forward way... put a game in a box and put the box on a shelf in a store.

TankCrossing3203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

^^ and charge people a fee to play it online, and release DLC, and include micro-transactions.

I'm not saying Sony are unusually evil or cruel, but the days of "put a game in a box and put the box on a shelf in a store" are long gone. Very much the exception and not the rule.

At least they generally leave single player campaigns intact. It seems nothing is sacred in multiplayer games these days. No coincidence that MS focus so heavily on those...

Miss_Weeboo3203d ago

yeah subtle like in Not doing it

TheUndertaker853203d ago (Edited 3203d ago )

Except they do.

I would actually think in context they subtly slide the micro transactions in rather than talking about it straight out

Poroz3203d ago

I am kinda surprised this did not happen sooner. Knowing the gaming industry and all. I miss when games were about passion, rather then the bling bling.

Perjoss3203d ago

Don't support it and feel great about not adding fuel to the fire.

MilkMan3203d ago

Microsoft just stays fuqing sh!t up.
They must have a guy on staff where his whole job is to come up with ways on how to fuq sh!t up.
Give that man a RAISE!

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty11h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan14h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher11h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty11h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies125h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.
