Stardock CEO On Scorpio And PS4 Pro’s Different Approaches, Both Trying To Solve Different Problems

The Xbox One Scorpio is a far more radical upgrade than the relatively more conservative PS4 Pro- this has naturally led to discussions regarding which approach is the superior one.

As of right now, this is how it looks..

Xbox Scorpio= Superior graphics, lacking in exclusives and or console sellers.
PS4=Great graphics, ton of exclusives.

Jc953341d ago

Why the disagrees? Am i lying??

Bruh3341d ago

Disagrees come from your fanboy antics. " lack of console sellers" lol thats stupidly subjective not factual. The argument of exclusives doesn't even apply to Xbox anymore, they technically don't have any moving forward.

llamamna133340d ago

Because "lacking exclusives" is totally subjective. I have plenty that have recently come out and many That are coming up later this year.

KwietStorm_BLM3341d ago

You used the words superior and PS4 in different sentences.

Silly gameAr3340d ago

Can't call something superior when it's not even released yet. It's easy for you guys to take MS at their word, but other people aren't so trusting.

candystop3340d ago

@silly

I dont consider any company out for my money trusting. That includes Sony or MS .

Bathyj3340d ago

@Silly gameAr

Im 100% sure Scorpio will have more powerful hardware than Pro and slightly better looking multiplats which we can directly compare.

Im also 90% sure I really dont care. I may get a Scorpio if it has something going for it other than better looking games I can already play. I need games I cant play on Pro.

And Im 80% sure sure even with the extra power Microsoft wont release a game better looking than Horizon this gen. Games are an artist medium, not simply brute forcing hardware. The best pencils in the world in the hands of a chimp wont allow him to draw.

candystop3340d ago

@bath

"And Im 80% sure sure even with the extra power Microsoft wont release a game better looking than Horizon this gen. Games are an artist medium, not simply brute forcing hardware. The best pencils in the world in the hands of a chimp wont allow him to draw."

Well at least you said 80 percent and not 100 percent. Who knows but never underestimate anyone.

Bathyj3338d ago

Candy I dont speak in certainties. I dont state my opinion as if it were fact. Im pretty sure Im right because for something really big to be out this gen it would be something we would probably know about already, but like you said who knows? Maybe Ryse 2 would challenge it, but taking into account the scope and size of Horizon and how good it looks I dont think we'll see a better looking total package for sheer beauty this gen except maybe Last of Us II and I only say that because its usually the way on console Guerrilla raise the bar on graphics, until the next Naughty Dog game comes out, and then vice versa. Its like a game only they are allowed to play.

Hopefully MS will have some new IP's to show at E3.

SirBradders3340d ago

Hopefully but how long until they release? By then it could be too little too late considering Sonys strong line up and surprises they may have in stock at E3 also.

PFFT3339d ago

Knowing MS, with in a year the latest. They tend to build hype on games that are right around the corner. But we will have to wait and see. But what i do know is that E3 is gonna be great this year. Cant wait to see what Sony and MS has in store for us.

uth113341d ago

Looks like the main purpose of the PS4pro was to provide just enough power to deliver the same games in 4K or close to 4K. They made deliberate design decisions to keep it close to the original for ease of optimization

Scorpio- we will have to wait and see. If it's too radically different from Xbox One, someone will probably suffer- either owners of the original getting inferior games or owners of the scorpio complaining games don't exploit the full potential

freshslicepizza3341d ago

why is there a different set of standards already?

Bruh3341d ago

Clueless and idiotic fanboy

Both of them are mid-gen consoles whose design revolves around higher graphical fidelity on the same experience as their base models. The difference is one will be drastically more powerful, but no way is that system going to be utilized as you're still designing for the base model and then scaling it to higher resolution/ higher frame-rates etc.

christocolus3340d ago

Exactly. I see them moving the goal posts a lot lately.

Benchm4rk3340d ago

@cupofjoe

"Its 5 times the xbox one power noway in hell games can run on both "

Explain then how PC's 10 times more powerful then XB1 were able to play Gears 4 and Forza Horizon 3 in 4k and the same game could be played on XB1. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Games will be scaled to suit the power output of each machine.

TheCommentator3341d ago

Owners of the PS4 are still getting inferior versions of Pro games right now...

Xbox gamers have been getting inferior versions of multiplats for 3+ years...

I think if us Xbox fans were only concerned about playing superior versions of games, we would all be PS gamers already. However, Xbox gamers who do want the best will now have an Xbox option with the best possible console experience.

BlackTar1873340d ago

i would accept that comment if the entire last gen wasn't the 100% opposite of what you just said.

maniacmayhem3340d ago

Except no one made up that narrative of "superior" version except for sony fanboys this gen.

Supposedly the cell architecture was so strong that 3rd party developers were to lazy to take full advantage of it.

Now for this gen after being told by sony fanboys that power and resolution is everything, now it's being conveniently put to the back burner with the arrival of this Scorpio.

Now power doesn't mean anything, unless you go into Switch articles, then you can see these Sony fanboys again bring power back to relevance.

ShadowKnight3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

Don't say that around N4G or Xbox fanboys. Let's just wait and see. The most important thing is having new IPs from their first party studios. E3 is almost here

I have little interest in purchasing a scorpio seeing that pretty much all the console exclusives stuff ends up on Windows. It will be interesting to watch from the sidelines though.

Bruh3341d ago

I have the money to easily buy a high end PC and game on it. I just don't find any interest in it and like me there are plenty who have the same mentality. The plug in play method works and having a version of it, even with the same games is still attractive. I'm excited to see Microsoft push the Scorpio on fidelity and not just resolution alone.

mcstorm3340d ago

I'm with you i have a laptop that can do gaming but Ide rather have a console sat there ready to use when ever i want and for me the Xbox and Nintendo consoles are my choices just because of the type of games i play. What will be interesting in this mid gen upgrade is that will Sony and Microsoft take different directions as Microsoft have stated that they are some with console generations so to speak and from now on they will offer upgrades so all your old games will work and new games will also work on older consoles. Now there will have to be a cut off point for the Xbox one for what games will run on it but if they do it right where they have a £400 to £500 top of the line console and a £250 to £199 bottom of the line console that all play the same game just downgraded graphics i see people upgrading every 4 to 5 years. Where if Sony start new with the ps5 and it can't play ps4 games it could hurt them more next time round. Like i said it's all if buts and maybes but interesting times for both.

GUTZnPAPERCUTZ3341d ago

Well After Playing Horizon in 4k after purchasing my Pro and 4k HDR Vizio, I can't wait to see what Scorpio brings! We just have to wait on the CPU announcement before we get too excited... If it has a 6+tflop GPU, 12gb of faster GDDR5 PLUS a decently clocked 8 core CPU then we should expect a noticeable difference between the Pro and Scorpio

CP_Company3341d ago

yeah,we will gonna see noticeable upscale on both :D does not matter sometimes what spencer says,but when even he admits that scorpio will get just some games on natave 4k,you need to listen.

Bruh3340d ago

Recently upgraded to a 4K gaming set myself ( KS 8000) instead of the Vizio, but I'm loving it. Just really wish Blizzard had a better Pro patch for Overwatch

TheCommentator3340d ago

Rumors suggest it's based off of Ryzen... hopefully we'll know all that on Thrusday! Developer comments seem to suggest a noticeable difference between Pro and Scorpio.

Bruh3341d ago

They're literally the same thing, neither one is superior to the other in terms of concept.

Microsoft will just finally have more horsepower to work with, but it seems to be a repeat of Xbox vs PS2. Where the PS2 dominated with simpler and weaker hardware as a result of tremendous 3rd and 1st party support. The Pro will be cheaper and its got a really good catalog of games to work with. Just wish more Japanese 3rd party exclusives supported the Pro

Bathyj3340d ago

Hmm, I hadnt made that PS2 v XbOG connection. Good point. Theres also the fact PS2 was out a year earlier which didnt hurt and Sony had a lot of good will and carry over customers from PSOne.

Look, no one actually thinks Scorpio is going to close that gap or anything, this gen is a wash, its done and dusted. Im just interested to see if MS can make a viable console they throw good support at again because all Im seeing at the moment is we have more power now. Its like Malibu Stacey got a new hat.
