The 2d platformer could be more popular again. The trouble is with all the indie shit that has flooded the market place. Trying to be something different but always missing the essence of what made the classics brilliant, art style. Play mechanics, something like super ghouls & ghosts on snes is truly unmatched. Princess Madelyn looks like someone has paid attention and obviously loves true retro platform games. Some of the effects in the backgrounds and bosses look stunnng using the power of next gen, but keeping the retro feel at the same time. It can be done other developers take note. Same goes for 2d shooters make some traditional shooters with a slight lick of paint but paying homage to their inspiration. Please no more twin stick shooters. Check out sturmwind on dreamcast you'll see what I mean with regards to nailing the retro feel, totally amazing shooter.
