What Would Make This a "Big E3" for Nintendo?

Past E3's have been lackluster for Nintendo, but Reggie says this year will be different. What would make for the best E3 2017 for the big N?

Antnee5343340d ago

For me it's pokemon on switch that is either next big game or even diamond and pearl remakes.

GtR35olution3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

it would be nice if Nintendo abandon the switch and made a better console with better controllers. It needs to be at least as powerful as the ps4 pro also

Istolla3340d ago

Why would you think that's better? Nintendo tried that with the GameCube. It was more powerful than the PS2. That strategy didn't work for them.

RosweeSon3340d ago

Yeah 3 weeks in let's drop it. 🙄

disgustipated843340d ago

Abandon the console they JUST released?? 😂😂

Antnee5343340d ago

Why the switch is exactly what nintendo is. They aim to be different then the rest. The hybrid system is so awesome and the switch it the perfect companion to the pro

Prince_TFK3340d ago

@GtR35olution

....seriously? Lol. Some people are really delusional around here.

Aenea3340d ago

They will release the Nintendo New Switch soon enough!

A big e3 would be Nintendo announcing that they're giving away free Switches to everyone in attendence

Prince_TFK3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

Yeah I can hear Nintendo's executive talking now "how do we want to spend our money? I know! By giving away free Switch to everyone in attendance and not give a crap about making new games!"

Yeah...right.

XanderZane3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

Screw Pokemon. Give me a real Metroid game, Mario Golf, Kid Icarus, Punch Out, Wave Race Extreme and some new IP's and that will be a good start.

Neonridr3340d ago

Some new 1st party IP's announced. Maybe a surprise or two. Mario Odyssey playable on the show floor. Some 3rd party showings and maybe one or two big announcements or exclusives.

The 10th Rider3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

I don't think new IPs would be too big. They launched the console with 1-2-Switch, which was bleh, and Snipperclips, which is surprisingly charming. On top of that ARMS is right around the corner. Later this year we'll see Splatoon 2, which is only the second game in the series, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is also in a newer Nintendo series.

On the other hand, there's been a lot of great Nintendo franchises that have been on the back-burner since the Wii days (or even earlier): Excitebikes/trucks/bots, Punch-Out!!, F-Zero, home console Animal Crossing, Sin and Punishment, Metroid, Battalion Wars, Super Mario Strikers, Luigi's Mansion, Eternal Darkness, etc . . . Seeing another of any one of those would be awesome. It'd also be awesome to see a sequel to The Last Story.

Then again, Miyamoto said years ago that it's about time he created a new character. He helped with Splatoon, but he didn't create the characters. Maybe he'll have something new before too long.

Personally, I think Nintendo will give us another look at Super Mario Odyssey, maybe a tiny tease for Fire Emblem, a deeper look at Fire Emblem Warriors, possibly Project Octopath Traveler and SteamWorld Dig 2, reveal a Smash Bros 4 deluxe for Switch, maybe a look at Retro Studios or Next Level Games next projects, Pokemon Stars/Eclipse/whatever, Pikmin 4 will be revealed and come out sometime before next Summer, I think Animal Crossing will get revealed this year or next, they'll probably show a trailer or something for the Zelda DLC, and of course at least one or two games that very few people care much about (Like Mario and Sonic at the PyeongChang Olympics) . . . My wildcard prediction would be a Bayonetta 3 tease or confirmation it's in development. On top of that there'll be a couple things for 3DS. I don't think it'll be enough to blow people away, but it won't be as bad as some years. Pokemon alone will be enough to keep the Switch momentum going and help prevent it from stagnating. Overall it'll be a decent conference, but nothing to write home about. Those who are skeptical will remain skeptical and those who are excited for the Switch won't be dissapointed.

I guess u have acrystal ball huh?

The 10th Rider3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

I said "I think" not "Nintendo will..."

We know they're working on Fire Emblem Warriors, which they will obviously show, and we know they're working on a main Fire Emblem game, but it's questionable if they will show it. Project Octopath Traveler and SteamWorld Dig 2 are coming to the console, it's just questionable whether or not Nintendo would show them at E3. A Smash Bros port has been heavily rumored for a while. We know Retro and Next Level Games have been working on stuff for a while. There's loads of cues pointing towards the Pokemon game for Switch. We know Pikmin 4 is in development and was almost finished. It'd be idiotic for Nintendo NOT to get an Animal Crossing game out, it's been so long since the last one and releasing it close to the release of the mobile game would be a great move. Mario and Sonic is due for another entry if they're continuing the series and Nintendo always has at least a game or two like that. The Zelda DLC should be obvious and it'd be a great way to carry the system's momentum, same thing with Super Mario Odyssey. They said they'll have 3DS games, though it remains to be seen if that means much other than Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and Fire Emblem Warriors. Other than that I don't think they're quite done with Bayonetta, hence it being my wildcard prediction. However I don't think it would be far enough in development to show much of anything.

I forgot about Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Of course that will be there.

So basically I expect Zelda DLC, Super Mario Odyssey, Pokemon, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Smash Bros Port, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario and Sonic, Pikmin 4, a surprise such as Animal Crossing/Retro Studios project/Next Levels Games project (probably not more than one of those), and a look at the untitled Fire Emblem and/or Project Octopath Traveler and/or SteamWorld Dig 2.

If you look at everything there, I doubt it's enough to convince those skeptical or critical of the Switch, but it's certainly enough to satisfy those who are excited for it or interested in it.

You don't think new intellectual properties would be a big deal just because of how bad 1-2 switch turned out? That's like saying no new Playstation 4 new intellectual properties would be interesting because Knack didn't turn out to be a huge seller....

So screw days gone and Horizon in the rest of Sony's newest properties?

I'm sorry but you desperately trying to ignore this company situations is downright embarrassing, you're literally saying new things would be bad LMFAO!!!!!!

You heard it here folks they shouldn't make anything brand new at all , just keep doing the same things that have been making them sell fewer systems

The 10th Rider3340d ago (Edited 3340d ago )

@_-EDMIX-_,

Um, that's not what I said at all? I was saying Nintendo has made new properties. You took less than half a sentence from my entire post, completely misinterpreted what I said, and threw a fit about it . . .

My point was that Nintendo launched the Switch with two (small) new properties and there's another one coming before too long (Arms). Other than that, currently the Switch's current upcoming lineup consists of Mario, Zelda, and sequels to newer properties such as Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Fire Emblem Warriors might a well be a continuation of Hyrule Warriors). With that in mind and considering Nintendo tends to announces games closer to release, I think most people would be fine if they announced some games from franchises that haven't been touched in a while, such as Metroid, F-Zero, Luigi's Mansion, or Animal Crossing. Then they could hit with another big IP (like Splatoon or Arms) next year, which would likely be announced next Spring or E3 (considering how Nintendo usually announces things).

A Pokémon game, Monster Hunter, details on GameCube virtual console, a new IP, Animal Crossing, and as a surprise, Metroid Prime or whatever Retro Studios is working on.

I'm mostly hoping to see Monster Hunter and Pokémon personally

xPhearR3dx3340d ago

Agreed. The big 3 for me. MH, Pokemon and Animal Crossing. I'm also really wanting to see more on Xenoblade. Just played the original for Wii on my Wii U a few years ago and fell in love with it. Even bought it for my 3DS and played through it again. I'm just hoping Nintendo's E3 is of stuff coming this year and not a bunch of stuff coming in 2018.

truechainz3339d ago

I think this is a pretty realistic list. The biggest variables being the new IP and Metroid/retro studios game.

CocoaBrother3339d ago

Nintendo has confirmed at least 1 new IP this E3 and Retro has been silent since February 2014 so they have to have something to show; at least I hope so.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio21d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing21d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit21d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing21d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

They would be better breaking up what valued assets they still have and put them out to auction for the competition.
There is no more financial gain for them on any trajectory in the entertainment space.
