Persona 5 devs Atlus confirm Metaphor: ReFantazio will also release on PlayStation and Steam

Techradar writes: "The upcoming game from RPG veterans ATLUS was originally announced at the Xbox Games Showcase as part of E3 2023, leading fans to infer that the title would only be available on Microsoft consoles when it releases in 2024.

However, a new trailer from SEGA Korea has confirmed that the title will be coming to PS5, PS4, and Steam in addition to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One."

Not surprising. More smoke and mirrors from Phil Mattrick.

porkChop985d ago

What smoke and mirrors? Console manufacturers don't include competitor's logos in their trailers. It's no different from the PS Showcase where almost every game was multiplatform but only showed the PS5 logo.

italiangamer985d ago

Smoke and mirrors is the fact that ms denied permission to SEGA/Atlus to rapidly announce those games are coming to PlayStation too. Something Sony didn't do with the games of their showcase where obviously childish ms was quick to remind people that those games were coming on xbox too.

shadowhaxor985d ago

Just going to add that there was ZERO mention of Metaphor: ReFantazio coming to the PlayStation in any of the press releases I received from Atlus. I also reached out multiple times after the Xbox showcase about the game coming to PlayStation. If anyone is at fault, it's Atlus failing to communicate it was coming to other platforms. It's not like Xbox would have told them not to reveal that afterward unless it was a timed exclusive.

That page also doesn't exist anymore, so Sega Korea pulled it for some reason....

goldwyncq985d ago

@ italiangamer
So exactly like when Sony failed to mention that games like GT7, Forbidden West, Miles Morales, and GoW Ragnarok would also be coming out for the PS4 and led their fans to believe that those games are current gen exclusives for months?

Magog984d ago

@shadowhaxor

Xbox makes other companies keep Playstation availablity out of the news when they are featured in there showcases regularly.

TheTony316984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

Microsoft paid for reveal embargos. They did it last year too for the P3-P5 ports.

neutralgamer1992984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

I don’t know why Ms doesn’t grow out of their childish PR when it comes to Xbox. They talk like they aren’t in competition with PlayStation and are instead doing their own thing yet

Right after Sonys event they had to let everyone know of certain games also coming to Xbox yet only a few weeks later hold their own event where they buy timed exclusive announcement trailers

Paying publishers money to make sure game release information regarding other platforms won’t be announced till 72 hours after the showcase and during this time trying to create a fake narrative that some games are exclusives

Even people on social media and YouTube were saying how Ms secured exclusives. For a trillion dollar company to act like this against a billion dollar company is beyond ridiculous

DarXyde984d ago

I don't think it was misleading.

Microsoft is the master of doublespeak and veiled statements, so when it isn't used, you can very good and well assume it isn't exclusive to their ecosystem. Good example was Rise of the Tomb Raider: they literally said "coming exclusively to Xbox in 2015". I knew immediately, "Game's timed." When something is properly exclusive, Microsoft says so unequivocally.

Likewise, as soon as I saw Atlus, I knew there was no way they'd be skipping PlayStation. It literally wouldn't make sense for this kind of game to skip it in favor of Xbox. Shin Megami Tensei, sure, but that's because that's the "Nintendo Atlus game".

I don't know anyone who thought that a game developed for Xbox by Atlus would miss PS5.

If you really believed that a JRPG would be an Xbox exclusive in the current generation then I don't know what to tell you.

shinoff2183984d ago

True enough. We all know xbox gamers don't buy games let alone buy jrpgs

MrNinosan984d ago

Well, Octopath Traveler was kept away from Playstation, so it have happened, but sure, that was last gen which makes even less sense.

FinalFantasyFanatic984d ago

It's kind of a death sentence to release a JRPG on just Xbox, so it made sense that other platforms would be announced.

derek985d ago

"Phil Mattrick" lol, hahahaha. Box Car Philly.

Godmars290984d ago

When was it ever suggested to be exclusive?

Not even talking about a graphically challenging title.

shinoff2183984d ago

What does the graphics have to do with anything

shinoff2183984d ago

I hope Sony went on Twitter to let the world know most of those games were also coming to ps also

To be fair I still think ms showed off better 1st party and third party games.

raWfodog985d ago

Would have been shockingly surprised if this was an exclusive title. Looks definitely like something that I will get into. Looking forward to getting more details about the game.

2moda5gamer985d ago

Watch this sell 85% on PS5.
At least it has a chance on other platforms unlike some other titles though...

DarkZane984d ago

Yeah, if it were to sell 1 millions copies total, probably only 5-10k would be on Xbox at most.

jznrpg984d ago (Edited 984d ago )

MS paid for a couple day advertisement exclusive again heh.

PS5 physical for me

RedDevils984d ago

I'll be having the physical copy as well.

Phil Spencer says Xbox shelved game streaming box because it cost too much

Couldn't hit desired $99-$129 price point.

I know any of their xbo units and series line can do streaming but they want something small like the PSTV was. And obviously something better than the stadia setup. Given the price of regular controllers is $50-60... that seems to be half the cost alone.

Melankolis1198d ago

Yea, many underestimated the cost of a controller, it's quite expensive, even more so a controller inside a portable device. Chinese devices for retro & emulation with better controller & build cost quite significantly higher than it's cheap counterpart although the specs are quite similar.

Jin_Sakai1197d ago (Edited 1197d ago )

“Phil Spencer says Xbox shelved game streaming box because it cost too much“

Aka we shelved it because Stadia failed.

Orchard1198d ago

I'm kinda surprised they couldn't get this down to $99. Really all it needed to be, was a streaming stick w/ bluetooth with a controller in the box. That should be more than doable for $99

Melankolis1198d ago

Chinese retro & emulation devices company might sell you $99 but i don't think it will be Microsoft/Sony's build quality.

Orchard1198d ago

Yeah but this isn’t running anything intense. It’s not much different from a TV streaming stick.

It looks like they went for more of a set too box setup which is probably where the cost comes in - probably has a ‘proper’ processor etc

crazyCoconuts1197d ago

@orchard maybe they couldn't bring themselves to deploy their software on a mini Linux kernel like all the other streaming sticks do. Windows everywhere. I remember reading about the Xbox one being two windows instances (1 for the UI, 1 for the games) managed by a hypervisor. Not a lean architecture

Orchard1197d ago (Edited 1197d ago )

@crazy Good point. It’s probably running Windows and needs a reasonably beefy CPU, heck I bet they can’t even run ARM in the thing - Windows on ARM is still a pretty bad experience compared to x86-64 Windows (which also isn’t exactly a great experience…)

They’re still using the dual OS setup you mentioned on the Xbox Series too. System OS and Game OS.

It is slower, especially if you’re in the Game OS and have to make cross VM calls to the system OS. It does give them an extra level of protection though, and is likely the reason they haven’t been jailbroken while Switch and PS4/5 have.

darthv721197d ago

@crazy, windows is the user interface for consumers and businesses. MS themselves has used linux based systems for various other things, including their cloud based blade servers. They arent above using linux where it fits, they are even invested in its future development.

FallenAngel19841198d ago

PSTV should have some kind of successor

Destiny10801198d ago

they could have streamed candy crush to billions of people

Aussiesummer1197d ago

Yeah right I'm sure stadia wasn't a deciding factor at all.
