Edge: Third Parties Abandoning PSP

Recently the head of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida called out third parties for their "disappointing" support of the PSP. Calling their lackadaisical attitude a "lost opportunity," he said, "They should look at what the PSP can do for their titles and the potential for the business that their IP has."

At the time, it felt like a strange move: calling out business partners new and old is a rare stance for an executive to take. It almost forced everyone to ask, "Just how disappointing is PSP third-party support, anyway?"

Edge did ask, and to find the answer they dug through the handheld's entire release calendar, to see if third-party neglect is really setting in as the PSP approaches four years old.

They are going to be third party heavy pretty soon

Square, EA, Konami, nippon Ichi, and others have plenty coming down the pipe.

I think Edge just ignored a little game called Final Fantasy XIII Agito and another called Monster Hunter Generation 2nd G

it's funny how 90% of "fair and balanced gaming news" is negative for sony these days...

coincidence?

a lot of sites like to take a cheap shot like the PSP is dead or PSP has no games or article like this to downplay the PSP! the PSP is doing just fine and sales numbers shown that it is indeed still alive and kicking especially in Japan even in NA!

The problem with the PSP is that it doesn't seem to have a steady flow of great games. I bought crisis core and got through, now I don't play it because there are no other games that appeal to me.

These are the games I own

Burnout Legends
Ratchet: Size matters
FFTA: War of the lions
Jeanne d'arc
Patapon
Crisis sore FFVII
MGS PO+

(I don't have GOW:COO because I find it kinda pricy for a 7hour game.)
I know other games are coming, but right now it acts as nothing not even an Mp3 player since I bought an Ipod.

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
