Nintendo Switch internal memory was upped at Capcom’s request

If Nintendo had its way, the Switch wouldn’t have had as much memory inside, and you might’ve had a very different gaming experience than the one you have today. Thanks to a push from Capcom and other developers, though, that’s not the case.

sort of like when epic told MS they needed to have 512mb in the 360. though if Capcom wanted switch to have 4gb then does that mean they are working on a RE game for switch???

PhoenixUp3260d ago

It's probable but unlikely considering they didn't even announce they'd be porting Resident Evil: Revelations to NS like they did with PS4 and XO recently.

conanlifts3259d ago (Edited 3259d ago )

As in the article Capcom have already reported they are working on getting the resident evil 7 engine working on switch. Of course this is just the game engine and doesn't mean they are porting the game.

@sd- stop.

https://www.vg247.com/2017/...

You brought this up in another article and several users corrected you why did you purposely ignore the statements by the company? They stated they have no plans to bring Resident Evil to the switch and they even made do with that promise as Revelations is being ported to the Xbox one and PlayStation 4 and it's completely skipping the Switch.

Concertoine3259d ago

I mean capcom tends to use one engine at all times. They used MT Framework last gen.

So they'd probably use RE engine for other in-house games like Monster Hunter.

Name Last Name3259d ago

Its certainly for Monster Hunter.

conanlifts3259d ago

@edmix.
I have never bought this up in another article.

Next, did you struggle to read what i said. I said they are porting the game engine. Plus i said "Of course this is just the game engine and doesn't mean they are porting the game."
You should try to read what someone writes .

@ concertoine, that is a possibility. My assumption with monster though was that they might port monster hunter xx across. But what you say is probably correct.

That's unlikely considering Capcom themselves actually stated they don't have plans to bring any of the Resident Evil games to the switch and they made True to that promise bytl not even bringing Revelations to the switch instead they're bringing it to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

I believe it's likely a deal for Monster Hunter.

Fist4achin3259d ago

I have to agree about MH. Nintendo has a firm grasp on that IP. I think the last MH for a console other than a Nintendo was ps2.

I wish they would share...

Teflon023259d ago

Fist... Monster hunter became popular because of the psp. Only reason it looks like this now is because Capcom requested Sony update adhoc party of ps3 so it would work with the newest monster hunter at the time. Sony didn't end up doing it. Which makes sense, monster hunter was selling millions, why are they cheating out forcing people to use adhoc party instead of adding online... But basically to be spiteful Capcoms MH team brought them to 3ds going forward over Vita despite the fact Vita's second stick was what it needs the most lol

_-EDMIX-_3259d ago

@te-I very much understand where Monster Hunter became popular from but at the end of the day my assessment is based on their financial situation their financial situation is telling me that they likely cannot afford to produce this game unless Nintendo funds which to me tells me it's statistically likely we will see a Monster Hunter on the switch before we'll see one on the PlayStation 4 or even the PlayStation Vita it's not ignoring that it existed on the PSP, it's just recognizing the company's financial situation.

I don't think Capcom did this to be spiteful, I think they just don't have the money.

If you're not going to bring up the company's financial situation I'm not entirely sure how you could hold this conversation a lot of their decisions have to do with where they are currently.

I mean you're basically making a statement and completely ignoring that they actually don't have the money for the thing you're talking about I'm sure it makes lots of logical Sense on the PSVita that doesn't mean they could afford it.

15 million vs 65 million, add in their current financial situation and then add in that Nintendo is more than happy to fund the project and you have a great reason why it exists on the 3DS

Perjoss3259d ago

"then does that mean they are working on a RE game for switch???"

Could be many things, I'm hoping it's a new Monster Hunter.

desertpunk863259d ago

everyone knows is going to be a monster hunter game running on the RE7 engine.

Actually, no.

They took the advice of a third-party instead of just sticking to doing their own thing like they did with the Wii and Wii U.

Yeesh, you folks will always look for a way to put a negative spin on any good news.

WickedLester3259d ago (Edited 3259d ago )

I think what he means is that were it not for Capcom's persuasion, Nintendo would've low-balled developers on memory. It's great that they listened to Capcom but I believe what he's getting at is that it shouldn't have come to that in the first place. Nintendo should've already had the foresight.

CrimsonWing693259d ago

Yea if you think this is good news I think there's something wrong with you. Nintendo shouldn't have even considered to do less internal memory in the first place. The fact that they did shows how out of touch they are. Thankfully a dev convinced them to even give the little bit that they already have which is still ludicrously low.

So, yea I don't find this to be good news it's more of a frightening reality check.

WickedLester3259d ago (Edited 3259d ago )

And to be fair, developers told Sony the exact same thing when Sony was talking to them about what they needed for current gen game development. I forgot the exact quote but Sony was considering putting 4GB of RAM into the PS4 and one certain developer told them in so many words "if you release that console with only 4GB or RAM, you're dead!" So I get it. Hardware manufacturers want to release these consoles as minimal as they can get away with to keep costs low. However that was more than FOUR years ago. I cannot believe that in 2015/16/17 Nintendo would've even considered releasing a console with 2 GB of RAM. Hell I still think 4GB isn't enough.

Scatpants3259d ago

4 actually seems not too bad for the type of graphics the Switch will be pushing out.

VersusDMC3259d ago

I don't think Nintendo took advice, with Capcom holding monster hunter hostage, they had to cave. Capcom made them make a second analog stick add-on for the original 3DS. I imagine Nintendo didn't want to do it... but then Capcom whispered "Monster Hunter 5..." In their ears. :)

dumahim3259d ago

Wonder what it would have been had it not been upped to 4.

WickedLester3259d ago (Edited 3259d ago )

No 1080p in docked mode, I can promise you that. Even with 4GB we're already seeing games such as Zelda having to settle for 900p.

Scatpants3259d ago

I'm not sure the 900p is entirely due to RAM constraints.

chris2353259d ago

and they did listen? what went wrong here? was nintendo's arrogance-meter out of order or what? would have loved to see an even more underpowered gadget failing.

demonicale3259d ago

Failing?, it's not failing you idiot.

InTheZoneAC3259d ago

Yet...

It was obvious the launch was going to be strong. What's unclear is after 2017....

EddieNX 3259d ago

Its not underpowered either, for a tablet, its right up there where you'd want it to be.

MrSugarholic3259d ago

For a home console, it's underpowered though.

TheUndertaker853259d ago

No, it is not. The Nintendo Switch shares specs with mobile devices of the past. A LG G3, Galaxy S6, iPhone 6, and others already matched specs. All of these devices are old and outdated in mobile terms.

jznrpg3259d ago

For a tablet its on par, for a game machine a bit underpowered. And I like the Switch, just wish it had a little more power. Hopefully Sony does a Vita2 with good specs, but who knows. I feel like the Switch will do ok maybe even good, but lack of power does isolate it from a lot of 3rd party which hurts for wider acceptance.

Segata3259d ago

They double the memory at Capcom's request.

WickedLester3259d ago (Edited 3259d ago )

Sad that it took Capcom's persuasion to convince Nintendo to up the Switch to a "whopping" 4GB of RAM. SMDH.

_-EDMIX-_3259d ago

The fact that they did not know this yet we're trying to call this a Home console despite knowing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One had 8 gigs Ram is this quite alarming.

Einhander19713259d ago

Good news for us switch owners, hopefully capcom are on board in a big way now that request happened.

That’s It, I’m Calling It, Xbox Is Dead, Time Of Death February 20

If you read Kotaku even semi-regularly, you already know that Xbox has been in a weird spot for some time now. And with today’s news that both Xbox boss Phil Spencer and President Sarah Bond are leaving and the new head of the brand will be a former Meta exec who previously lead Microsoft’s AI division, I think it’s time to call it. Xbox is dead. Time of death: February 20, 2026

Zerobalance12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

God! Xbox dead again! Boring! Boring. Heard it all before.

InUrFoxHole11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

While I normally agree... The future of xbox is on shaky ground. Well, xbox as we know it. Im not sure what they are shooting for but who they put in charge mixed with Phil retiring and bond just flat out leaving. It's not looking good.

REDDURT4h ago

Im with you but in western countries I have noticed a trend to put women in control to prevent any kind of critics.

Levii_9212h ago

Oh come on, Xbox has been dead for at least 10 years now. I think what’s more important right now is Playstation’s death that is very slowly but surely happening through mismanagement and greed.

InUrFoxHole11h ago

Some what agree. Sony is in a better position to unf#$k themselves. Xbox isn't.

Levii_927h ago

True i agree with that, xbox's got nothing

ocelot0710h ago

I actually agree sooner Hust is gone the better.

Levii_927h ago

He's being clowned on by the entire internet but i have been clowning on him way before he became CEO. I hate modern PS so much man. To this day i have no idea how Astro Bot happend in this terrible PS era but that was clearly a miracle.

Grilla9h ago

Delusional take, why do xbots always project Xbox’s problems onto PlayStation?

0hMyGandhi4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Respectfully, This is probably one of my least favorite tactics in making an argument.
I'll give you an example: If I like the color red, it doesn't mean I hate the color blue.

People lamenting the (potential) demise of the xbox brand has nothing to do with sony or playstation. It has everything to do with xbox. Now, for the sake of argument, you could say that Sony and Microsoft are two peas in a pod, and that they've both made absolutely baffling and worryingly stupid decisions in the recent past. But I truly believe that Xbox would be shooting itself in the foot regardless of Sony's presence (I look at you, Xbox One reveal with always online DRM and the inability to share games).

Sony, on the other hand, is making stupid decisions to stay competitive with the market, and like Microsoft, is seemingly forcing by proverbial gunpoint talented developers to try to make the next GAAS experience and never learning their lesson. I believe that Microsoft squandering RARE is the equivalent of Sony squandering Naughty Dog. Neither platform really knows what they want to be, BUT Sony is alot further along in figuring it out before Microsoft pulls out another revolver and takes aim at another of it's own toes.

Agent7525m ago

Xbox died after the Xbox 360. The Xbox One was mediocre, the Series X was game shy. I'm glad Phil is retiring.

Ubisoft CEO Explains Three-Year Plan to Revamp Game Publisher Through New ‘Creative House’ Strategy

“Assassin’s Creed” publisher Ubi soft is trying to emerge from a rocky few years. CEO Yves Guillemot breaks down the new strategy for success.

Well it will come down to the games. Hopefully they live up in o expectation.

“Ubi soft is trying to emerge from a rocky few years“

^ THIS after Ubisoft’s fluff pieces about how great they are doing after Assassins, Attack on Titan and laying offs. The hype fell the floor apparently.

Agent7512h ago

I was a bit gutted with The Division, too many bells and whistles like Far Cry. Never rated Prince of Persia or The Crew. Rayman, it’s too long in the tooth, lay it to rest.

PRIMORDUS11h ago

Far Cry and Assassin's Creed, this is all Ubishit can make. It would be better if Ubishit just close down, and sell their other IP's, like Splinter Cell, Beyond Good and Evil, etc. Far Cry and Assassin's Creed can just die, that is enough.

So many games huge backlogs now it's about buy few games per year. So far in 2026 I haven't bought anything and my goal is to not buy any games this year. Finish 250 games in the backlog. Already finished bunch of smaller title

Games come out needing many months of patching so it's just wait and see and I'd game turns out good buy it for cheap with all the dlc
