To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Agreed. At the very least we should be able to purchase some games directly, instead of getting just a discount, once we have enough Gold or Platinum coins.
A conversion system where 1k Platinum can be turned into a small amount of Gold would also be nice, but I suspect some might find a way of exploiting that...
