One Big Reason Why Devs Opt for Consoles than PC

Lex: "No, this is not about boats sailing with black flags and a skull imprinted on them, we’re not going to be tackling about Henry Avery’s adventures of a pirate. It’s about illegal copies sold for a cheaper price or download games for free from the interwebs."

There's a lot more games on PC than there are on consoles...

GamerAllTheWay3360d ago

No argue with that, but the article focuses more on why devs are opting for consoles than on PC recently.

bluefox7553358d ago

Sure, but the vast majority are equivalent to flash games. I game mostly on PC, but I keep a PS4 because it regularly gets great games that I can't get on my PC. This is rarely the case in reverse though. The only one I can think of offhand is Civilization. I thought maybe Xcom 2 would fall into that category, but even it went to console as well.

yarbie10003358d ago

Can say the exact same thing about PS4 - that it has a majority of indies that look like flash games. And I play on PC cause I regularly get great games I can't get on my PS4. Star Citizen, ashes of singularity, starcraft, Total War, cities skylines, etlite dangerous etc

Really? That's funny, because every console up to this generation has been hacked to play free games. Every. Single. One. Atari through NES, through PSX, through PS3, and everything in between. This generation is the only one not yet cracked. Yet.

Cracking consoles gives you the entire package too. Online play, updates, free DLC, everything. Not so on PC.

I'd say console pirates have it far better than PC pirates. Hey, always popular to trash on PC for piracy though I guess.

Fist4achin3359d ago

I would think there are a lot less people rigging their consoles than PC doing any pirating. I'd heard of horror stories of people having to solder this and messing up having to buy a whole new console.

Now with game prices dropping fairly quickly, it's easy to get new/newer games for cheap. Not only that, there are so many games coming out, backlogs are common.

franwex3359d ago

I think that there is a certain point of time that the developer has before hackers can crack a game on consoles. It usually takes a few months for the hack to occur. Most games sell the best initially anyway. PC games are often pirated before they are even out.

I think developers want to maximize profitability. Some games take some time sometimes to reach the pc market for that reason under the pretext that they want to maximize for the platform (which I suppose, is somewhat true).

Eventually all consoles due get hacked; but as you stated, the current gen has yet to be cracked, so it does make sense for them to wait.

"One Big Reason Why Devs Opt for Consoles than PC" < One big reason you should read a book on English grammar before trying to write a headline : P

Scratch that, I just read the article, and the whole thing is full of oddities. Maybe proofread your writings before you post it? It's hard to take your article seriously this way.

TankCrossing3358d ago (Edited 3358d ago )

Deflecting what? The article is nonsense, the vast majority of devs choose the PC (if you ignore mobile).

Of the relatively few console-only devs, I doubt PC piracy is a prominent reason. There are loads of more important factors.

Glemt3358d ago

I don't get what you're getting at here, but I always get a lot of disagrees on my comments when I talk about grammar and professional journalism. No one minds people whining like small babies when there is a downgrade, glitches, bugs or whatever, because, you know, game developers should be professional. But journalists? Nah, any child with a computer can write whatever and however they want, and we should just tolerate it.
Come on people, we're better than this. If you want to spell bad yourself, perfect, but someone wanting others to read your words in a more professional setting (i.d. an article online), be professional about it.

Blu3_Berry3358d ago (Edited 3358d ago )

This article seems incredibly biased. Where is the information from developers talking about PC? I get this is an opinion piece, but I feel that for this kind of article, it is lacking too much data. How much money are they losing on PC when people pirate games? Is it better for them to completely opt out PC? No it isn't.

There are always money being made from PC. Alot of the time it depends if the game is optimized really well or if it's a terrible port which we have seen several times. If the PC version of a game is horribly optimized like Batman Arkham Knight, Dishonored 2 and Watch Dogs, then honestly I don't blame people for pirating them. Why should people spend their hard earned money on a half baked port/game that doesn't even run?

There are alot of things to consider. I don't support pirating games, but I don't hate it either. It honestly depends on the optimization and support it receives. If it's good, then people should buy it. If it's crap, than why should people buy it?

There are so many things to take into for this kind of situation. And this article is simply lacking the data for it from the people who spoke out about pirating games and the revenue loss and etc.

And honestly, I don't think pirating games is as big of an issue as people make it seem to be. Yes it's bad, but people really make things blown out of proportion.

il-JumperMT3358d ago

You forgot the most important thing. Its easier to optimize code for a single device. All consoles all the same. PCs are not. There is a reason why some games are horrible optimized on PC. *cough AMD cough*
