If the hardware doesn't sell beyond 20 millions they'll still profit thanks to software and licensing, that is why they don't go third party, Nintendo has great 1st party software attachement rates and they also turn a profit of any third party or indie game that solds on their platforms, as little as the last one may be, its still something they woulnd't want to give up.

Nintendo has its own way of making business, it carves it's own market by keeping production cost under control working on dated but well documented and proved tech (Lateral thinking of withered technology), this way, they don't have to go way over budget in the development of games, this maximises profits. Their exclusives keep their platforms alive and they still profit from games published on their platforms. Also, exclusiveness strengthen their brand and this allows them to also profit from merchandising, again, by licensing and also selling their own products (toys and other stuff), that is why the keep using the same characters on different games over and over again, to keep collective awarness of their products while still excersing total control over their properties, is a form of massive advertising without having to participate in other platforms.

Nintendo has a big business. That's why I doubt they'll ever go full third party.

Then goodbye...unless it is able to tap into the Android/Apple mentality and offer cheaper mobile games.

I know ppl hate it but just imagine a console like the PS4 with a tablet released separately as a 3DS follow-up. Nintendo would be king because ppl adore their exclusives. Zelda would run in 1080 at 60 fps.

I know they didn't want a gap between the tablet and TV performance, but why? 720p on a 6" screen is amazing! They could offer any console game at 720 and I'd be ecstatic. What I hate is Zelda at 920 and less than 30 fps when it doesn't need to be!

Maybe they thought ppl wouldn't pay, but they could have sold a PS4 like console for $250. Then sold the tablet for $250 a yr from now. I'm salivating just thinking about it.

No console can thrive without outside support. However, it could be indie support not 3rd party publishers that give the Switch the boost of needs from that outside support.

When it comes to Nintendo consoles, I almost always never buy multiplat games for them. I always get 1st party titles and 3rd party EXCLUSIVES that interest me. Any major multiplat game I will be getting for my XB1 unless the Switch version is worth the trouble. I will be supporting my investment, but I will be very picky in doing so

People actually think Nintendo are competing with Sony/MS... they're always doing their own thing and don't need to sell as many as PS4 has sold to be "successful". It's a smart company.

I think sports games are critical. I know a lot of people who visit these sites may not play a lot of sports games, but being able to take sports games on the go would b great, provided it is not a dumb downed version.

Really? Tne switch isn't powerful enough to run call of duty? A game that's still using the old unreal engine from last gen. The wii u had COD and the switch is more powerful and can run unreal engine 4 smh.

people keep saying this but if you want 3rd party games why buy Nintendo? ps4 for 3rd/1st, switch for 1st I really don't see the issue.
