Nintendo Switch Dock Has Been Pulled From The Nintendo Store

ThisGenGaming says "It looks like the Nintendo Switch dock has been pulled from the Nintendo Store. It leaves the question, why has it been removed?"

why would they pull that and not the switch as well?

MyDietEqualsGames3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

It's better to trojan horse the Switch itself than deal with the dock issues and pull the console entirely.
Pull the dock, get that shit fixed, re-release the dock and going forward, the fix would OF COURSE be present within the full package.

Nintendo will have to have some very good customer service, though, so they can instill good faith from their customers. That's my guess what's going on here, FWIW. Glad I am waiting till the end of the year. Hopefully all this shit gets ironed out when Odessey drops.

DillyDilly3356d ago

So will they let everyone get a new dock if they release a new one ? I doubt it I will just never buy & use the dock if I gotta buy a new one because of Nintendo messing up

3356d ago
jaymacx3355d ago

this is false news... the website is actually just out of stock

MyDietEqualsGames3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

@TheRandomOne

What would you do in this situation, after you've launched a major product that was detrimental to your company image and possibly future? I would keep selling the full package and replace the faulty docks. They are going to want install base and if they fucked up, they will do what it takes to keep the numbers going up, including take the L for a bad design decision.

If they pulled the whole console right now, it would shit on everything they've done to prepare for this launch. That's how I see it at least and if someone else has a better theory, I'm all ears/eyes.

thehitman13983356d ago

I agree with what ur saying, but the fact of the matter is, Nintendo themselves caused this. They designed the dick poorly. Now everybody that's buying the system right now before they fix what they themselves caused is just gonna leave a bad taste no matter what. And tbh, why should the public cared how much damage control nintendo is trying to do. Alls they know is, the docking system is damaging their units. And for Nintendo to just let this happen is beyond reprehensible. You cannot tell me they didn't know about this before it was released

DillyDilly3356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

But what would they do for the people who has the old docks ? Do they really expect them to buy new docks when this is Nintendos mess up ? That would be un fair to the buyers & bad pr

SolidSystem3356d ago

Its also not unheard of for Nintendo to ship those original buyers some goodies to fix a problem. Wii-condoms for example.

Expect an email offering a new dock if this is truly why it got pulled.

freshslicepizza3356d ago

Makes sense, easier to just get a new dock

Geoff9003355d ago

I would've got it right in the first place....

They have had years to develop the Switch, and it's, Nintendo here not MS, or Sony they have been doing it longer than anyone else.

light693355d ago

I wouldn't assume they'll faze it out with a dock 2.0 kinda like how Sony released the updated dualshock 4 with the light bar at the top of the pad. Hardly anyone noticed and it wasn't a big deal for many that would probably be the best thing. Just my opinion though

ABizzel13355d ago

@thehitman1398

I'm pretty sure only genetics has control over that. Nintendo can't help the way their ..... was designed XD

antikbaka3355d ago

nah.. Nintendo being Nintendo, they will just sell you another better dock.

GamingCentaur3356d ago

If it becomes a big enough of a problem, they'll have to. Dealing with massive returns at retail is a nightmare and its sours. NIntendo's relationship with retailers.

KickSpinFilter3356d ago

I'm sure it will be like the launch PS4 controllers that had peeling sticks, fix the problem do a soft recall, those who have the issue can get a free replacement, and for those who have no issue welp keep it I guess.

DragonDDark3356d ago

LMAO good one moldy. First time you've made me laugh lol

MyDietEqualsGames3356d ago

@HitMan
"They designed the dick poorly"

Hahahahahaha!

I'm not trying to defend Nintendo. These issues aren't really surprising given the nature of the device itself. I'm really leaning on this console being rushed and probably should have waited till Summer to launch to work out the remaining issues. Still, the docking issue scratching consoles is a very stupid problem to have. When things interlock like that, you need some type of soft fibre or rubber to prevent aesthetic damage.

Ninty may have dropped the ball here.

XanderZane3355d ago

The Dock is what's scratching up the Switch.

MasterCornholio3356d ago

I read that there's a problem with the dock that's causing scratches on the Switches screen. But then again there's also the theory that Nintendo has some major stock issues with it.

Regardless of whats true I'm sure Nitnendo will explain this to us.

Relientk773356d ago

Read that too, I hope they fix it.

GuruStarr783356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

I Haven't had a single issue. Neither has any of the people I network with on Reddit.

Nitrowolf23356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

I haven't had a single issue either but that doesn't mean you go and ignore that there is an issues this far too many reports.

Just looking at the dock alone when the system isn't it you can see where it can cause damage its plastic rubbing against cheap plastic and one has ridges so of course it's going to cause some sort of damage no matter how careful you are it's always going to have a potential of damage. Those grooves didn't have to be there Nintendo could have opted for some sort of snap mechanism, that snaps the console from the bottom of the system in the top

_-EDMIX-_3356d ago

Lol no bud.

Sounds questionable.

When my friends picked up the switch they literally had to do this entire song and dance adjust to set up specific aspects of the device.

They found out that you couldn't even charge the damn controller while you were gaming you had to buy another type of attachment smh

What I'm seeing online are numerous technical issues dead pixels , some systems even breaking, in numerous color issues

AuToFiRE3356d ago

Its recalled for the screen scratching

3355d ago
light693355d ago

Wait what? You don't need an extra attachment to charge the console? The cable that comes with it can charge it while docked or undocked

conanlifts3355d ago (Edited 3355d ago )

No issues with any aspect of the console, but i put a screen protector on just in case. If it's true nintendo need to address it. Even if the solution is only to immediately send out screen protectors. If my unit became scratched due to the dock i would return it for a replacement.

The article itself is incorrect. The dock is still listed and simply out of stock.

I mean I am careful when I dock my Switch. So yeah, your mileage will vary. Be rough with your electronics and bad stuff is bound to happen. But then again, I also put screen protectors on anything I use (tablets, phones, handhelds, etc)

_-EDMIX-_3356d ago

Well you shouldn't have to be

the device was created for the purpose of docking it correct?

So I would find it strange that anyone would need to take extraordinary precautions with such a function

Neonridr3356d ago

@EDMIX - do you put a screen protector on your phone? It's not mandatory. But it's gonna get scratched up if you don't.

You shouldn't have to be careful? Well that's silly. I guess we should all drop ours and complain if they break too right?

Goldby3356d ago

@Neon

i think its also the fact that they are using cheap plastic for a screen instead of a harder material... like glass... thats used in every other electronic that has a screeen. there's a reason you can just toss your phone in your pocket, or lob it onto your bed or even throw in in your back pack.

Plastic on plastic was bound to cause issues even if it was safeguarded for 99% of the time.
you dont put to soft materials together, they will scratch

InTheLab3356d ago

The dock issue is different from mishandling your electronics. Surely even someone like you can acknowledge that sliding your switch into a dock or "switching" as the gimmick implies, is much different than laying your keys on your tablet.

Sometimes the manufacturer screws up and it's OK to blame them for it.

Nitrowolf23356d ago (Edited 3356d ago )

Of course we put screen protectors on our devices to protect the screen but end intendo case they're selling a system that causes damage to itself.

You know if you bought a cell phone that had a built-in case with it you can sure bet that they aren't designed to potentially damage the cell phone

Teflon023356d ago

Neon
Most phones don't even scratch easily these days. It goes back to like galaxy s3 or so. Once they used good high quality glass the only way to scratch your screen has been to drop it on something or keeping it in the same pocket as keys. People do that as an extra layer of protection they don't necessarily need unless they're clumsy. Also people I know don't get typical screen protectors anymore but the non scratch glass ones. But I don't know. People need to stop giving excuses for companies. No excuse for early ds4 losing grip in in days, no excuse for all these switch issues, no excuse for rrod, etc. These are the reasons they don't have these issues fixed from the get go. People always wanna be okay about it. No you shouldn't be. Enjoy your system but don't be a blind fanboy

3355d ago
conanlifts3355d ago (Edited 3355d ago )

I agree with Edmix on this. I saw the stories and immediately added a screen protector, but i shouldn't have to. At the least it should have come with a screen protector in place.

My s5 came with a screen protector already on. I think all devices should have this.

ChattyGamer3356d ago

Yeah the dock sctraches the screen (For Some)... i have a few friends on facebook with the issue but i had a screen protector on mine so im happy as larry :D

_-EDMIX-_3356d ago

I mean anybody could have told this company this

what's so sad is what I kept seeing images of this dock and my assumption was that behind the plastic was some sort of soft mesh or cloth type material that would not scratch the screen but leave it to this idiot company to have plastic going against an LCD screen.

Apparently this is news to them that the screen can be scratched

Neonridr3356d ago

problem is you assume a lot. Own one, and then you can truly complain or share your thoughts. Right now you are just speculating. I own one, I can speak from experience. I honestly don't know how these people are scratching their screens.

Goldby3356d ago

^by placing it in the dock silly.

Problem is your assuming alot too, that every switch own take the same care and focus when they put their tablet away. some people will just dock it and not think of make sure the screen doesn't get scratched cuz they probably think, of its just like my ipad or phone, dont need to worry about glass scratching from plastic

_-EDMIX-_3355d ago (Edited 3355d ago )

@neo- so what you're telling me is I was wrong to assume a company would research their product to make sure it's in the best interest of consumers long term use?

🤔

Let me help you understand this you're rubbing a hard piece of plastic against an LCD screen because of this "switch" functioning of pulling it out and putting it back into the dock because if its main concept.

If you don't know how someone's LCD screen pick it scratch because of a situation you willfully choose to be ignorant.

But that's okay this isn't your company.

Would you create a device in which you had to Dock an LCD screen on a piece of plastic knowing that the plastic was always touching the LCD screen?

How come on Sony made the numerous PlayStation cradle accessories for their handhelds that they didn't come across the same issue? The actual PlayStation cradle accessory to play your PSP on the television actually never touches the screen is meant to go under the platform.

http://www.atmaxplorer.com/...

So maybe we need a docking station similar to this cuz I'm at a point where I'd rather they just give us the damn HDMI cord and call it a day because they're desperately trying to sell a fat hunka plastic for literally no reason.

Based on the functionality of this device there is no reason for all that plastic to be there other than to try to create this false sense of technological advancement to justify the $90 from what I've heard about what it does there is no reason for all the plastic to be there other than to hold the device and make it seem as if there's this deep reason for its existence when in reality it's simply just an HDMI and USB hub I'm sorry but that does not cost a $90.

I want you to understand that the PSP cradle was simply an option you actually could purchase a cord that Simply Connected to your PSP directly to your television.

Nintendo was simply doing this to price gouge their consumers they've done this numerous times despite there being options.

So what you're telling me is Sony did the same thing almost 10 years ago but smarter?

😂😂😂&# 128514;😂

OK bud.

Keep spending more money for less quality I'm not sure how that's going to help you as a consumer , you could still like Nintendo games while still being honest about their Shady procedures.

https://www.amazon.com/PSP-...

But hey let's keep trying to pretend it's rocket science at the cost of $90

rainslacker3355d ago

God forbid Neon's switch slips in his hand while pulling it out or putting it in and gets scratched.

Its just common sense that Nintendo would know this would happen. During testing they probably pulled it in and out of the dock thousands of times. Surelly they would know the dock would scratch the screen.

Nintendo's marketing shows the switch being practically slammed into the dock, and Nintendo is knowledgeable enough about consumer products to know that not even 1% of the people out there are going to treat it like a baby going into a crib all the time, every time. Nintendo, and we all know that as people become more comfortable with the stuff they own, they start to handle it less carefully. They get rushed. They don't pay attention as muscle memory takes over, or they just stop caring as much.

But in this regard, Nintendo made a device which damages another part of the same device. That's a design flaw. Nintendo should have known better, and likely, they'll either remove all accountability for their oversight or willing release of a product with a design flaw, or they'll actually replace the dock. I don't expect them to ever replace the whole console though. Maybe some lawsuit will kick them into action, and if it goes that far, no doubt they'll claim user error.

So Neon, you're trying to remove blame from Nintendo. That's not right. It's OK to criticize when it's applicable. It's good for the consumer. It's good for you. If Nintendo has to replace stuff, it won't be the end of them. If they don't have to, it could move onto the end of your consumer rights being exercised to your benefit.

Your interest should always come first. The lack of anecdotal evidence does not mean the issue doesn't exist. Just means you haven't had the problem, or met someone who has had it. Given it hasn't been out a week, maybe give it some time.

After hearing about this I decided to stuff a book inside the dock to try and stretch the space out so it doesn't hit the plastic so much when I dock it

rainslacker3355d ago

One of those soft screen cleaner cloths draped over the edge would likely keep it safe. Might be annoying and less attractive though.

InTheZoneAC3356d ago

the first time I saw the switch announced that was my first thought, scratches on the front and back...

Maybe they figured it best to use the secondary docks as a primary to get more Switch units out in the Wild sooner so people can catch their Breath of. This is a peripheral that should have come after launch. How many people truly need or had the desire for a secondary dock day one. In all reality it's probably an issue of some sort.

Taero3356d ago

I'd hazard a guess that the dock isn't the limiting factor in this case.

Seraphim3356d ago

wow, see no one gets the joke. Obviously the Switch itself is the most taxing on production. Hence, the "in all reality it's probably an issue of some sort."

Seraphim3355d ago

in other news, Apparently Forbes is actually reporting the stand is sold out. Perhaps the scalpers all got them or those who actually felt the need to have 2 stations in the house got their hands on one right away.
