Gaming and artificial intelligence

Gaming is no longer the domain of the few - it has become a global industry making billions. Indeed, video games as an industry sometimes overtakes Hollywood, both in spending and in profits. Like all forms of technology, advances made in the industry sometimes have had side effects in other areas. Progress is progress, regardless of where it is specifically located. One fascinating area of advancing tech in gaming is artificial intelligence (AI). Few areas are better suited to show off the capabilities of AI, at least from an initial perspective, than video games. Let’s see what AI has done for video games and where this can lead to in future.

Years ago we jokingly talked about the singularity theory as something that will never happen IRL and as a thing of awe in sci-fi movies. Today that concept is edging closer to becoming a reality -a thing to be admired and perhaps feared.

DesVader3339d ago

You are not wrong about that. The pace of technology development is exciting and terrifying at the same time. On a more relevant note, I think the concept of AI in gaming can be a welcome one. For single player experiences, playing a challenging AI opponent could be fun. Getting smarter enemies in gaming has always been a challenge....

Better AI would make for an incredibly immersive experience.

Forza Motorsport’s remaining 2025 content plan paints a bleak picture

There will be no new content in Forza Motorsport, just recycled tours and some new challenges, until at least December 2025, if ever again.

MrBaskerville221d ago

I should probably hurry up and buy this game, before they delist it. It seems to be going the way of Forza 7.

Deathdeliverer221d ago

It’s no longer Forza Motor Sport. It’s no longer Forza anything. It’s the rebirth of PROJECT GOTHAM RACING! Seriously though, at least Horizon isn’t going anywhere. That’s my favorite arcade racer.

Elit3Nick221d ago

With the wait and T10 being gutted and turned into a support studio for Playground Games, Horizon 6 better be the best in the series...

Hey, Xbox, just what in the heck is going on with Forza Motorsport?

Windows Central writes: "Forza Motorsport is one of the franchises that helped build Xbox into what it is today. It's frankly disgusting that over a month after media reports of its demise, nobody at Microsoft has even acknowledged the situation.

Is it alive? Is it dead? Is it purely in maintenance mode? We're not expecting much, but we're right to expect something."

I assume they'll quietly announce it's demise a day or two after showcasing Forza Horizon 6.

shaenoide263d ago

The team behind Motorsport has been dismissed so...

gold_drake263d ago

its probably dying, seeing that the team behind the franchise was ... let go.

ApocalypseShadow263d ago (Edited 263d ago )

Crazy. All that time, the photogrammetry, the cars, the drivatars, the air in the tires, the turn 10 trolling in comment threads over the years, the rush to get to the same number of releases as their competitor, the me too_ness , the fanboys saying it was the better game, the loud engine noise, the power of the cloud...

to only crash and burn against an opponent that still leads with more detail, online, VR, real cars created by manufacturers making the virtual cars a reality and the sales and recognition of the game. And, real race car drivers coming from playing the game.

It's like the game got thrown out with the bath water at the same level as the console sales dying. I'd be surprised if they make another attempt. What's the point of having all that money if you can't use it properly or put in the effort.

Ex Turn 10 Employee Says Forza Motorsport Division Closed,Studio to Act as Support for Forza Horizon

Ex-Turn 10 employee reveals that the Forza Motorsport division has been closed, with the studio now focusing on supporting Forza Horizon.

lukasmain297d ago

Hmm would this mean Forza Motorsport series is dead as we know it? Seems that way. On a brighter note, I'm sure Forza Horizon will go from strength to strength

Hypertension140296d ago

"I also feel like Turn 10 and the Forza Motorsport series is on its last legs. The newest game in the series completely killed off most of its fanbase."

I made that comment 419 days ago, I knew this was coming.

PhillyDonJawn296d ago

I wouldn't say all that. I personally feel its been pumped out too much and we dont need another one for awhile. I'd rather than work on a new ip or 2 then return to forza. And considering horizon branch is the one working on Fable if they are making another Horizon they'd need that extra support

GhostScholar296d ago

I think everyone did. Horizon was just a better game and making two racing games just sort of doesn’t make sense even if one is arcade style and one is a sim.

GamerRN296d ago

I think annual or biannual releases are over. The market barely supports annual sports releases anymore

P_Bomb297d ago

Forza Motorsport is dead too? That was an Xbox pillar. Guess it’s Horizon’s race now.

RaidenBlack297d ago

But isn't Turn10 the lead studio? Develops the main Forza engine for Motorsport that Playground uses it for Horizon?

Sonyslave3297d ago

Take this with a grain of salt

maximusprime_296d ago

If true, that makes Gran Turismo the longest running Racing Simulator game on console.

BlackCountryBob296d ago

It already was, there had been 4 mainline Gran Turismo games released, plus the concept / prologue games, before the first Forza was released on Xbox.

VariantAEC293d ago

@RaiderNation
The PSP game launched in 2010. The user you are replying to specified GT games released before the first Forza Motorsport game.

OlderGamer17296d ago

GT i s and was the King of racing sims on conaole ...Forza was and is eating GT's dust from the start....

VariantAEC293d ago

GT is still undisputed in the realm of consumer-level racing simulation software. Not just on consoles but everywhere that ignores specialized sim racing rigs that typically cost over $30k to make.

Killer2020UK296d ago

If false it makes Gran Turismo the longest running Racing Simulator game on console. It came out long before Forza

MajorLazer296d ago

Forza came out in 2005, GT in 1997.

fr0sty296d ago (Edited 296d ago )

Gran Turismo had 4 full games out spanning 2 console generations before the first Forza was released. Gran Turismo 4 was released in 2004, the first Forza came out in 2005.

Bathyj296d ago

It already was.
Forza was a copy of GT.

PhillyDonJawn296d ago

It already was. GT been around long before forza was even thought of
