I honestly don't think it will. It'll surpass WiiU sales, but it won't go much farther depending on how Nintendo releases games. If we can get that rumored Pokemon game on it it'll easily sell 30-40 million.

I believe the only way Nintendo switch fails is if Nintendo lets it.

Many users and I have talked about this and it seems the only way we see this product failing is by Nintendo's continuous Poor Decisions on how they treat the product , they have this bizarre habit of giving them an inch and they take a mile, they seem to be almost lost in regards to what consumers think of them and they have this belief that people are willing to pay anything to purchase their product to despite record low sales.

I believe Nintendo needs to price their products based on how the market is responding and I believe they no longer need to be creating two pieces of Hardware they need to be creating one and focusing on that one product.

Fragmenting their Market did not do any favors to people who own the Wii U or a 3DS for that matter.

If Nintendo puts all of their development teams on the switch and lets it be known that that is what they're doing and they put away this nonsense of a 3DS successor in regards to another portable I think the switch will do okay.

I believe the docking station in regards to outing to the television should have been at most a bundled option and not forced upon the consumer.

They should have released it at $199 for the handheld itself and $250 for the bundled version. $60 at most for the docking station I'm sorry but there's no damn reason that that hunk of plastic that's simply just an HDMI out in USB hub needs to be $90 , it's one of the grossest exaggerations I've ever seen.

I know for a fact that hdmi-out and USB hubs literally can be manufactured for under $2 to $3.

It doesn't need to be perfect for god sakes it doesn't even need to be out putting the 1080p they could have even went ultra cheap and just out it to 720P.

Their consumers are the Casual base that quite frankly does not actually really care about such things so there's no reason to be trying to be pricing this thing at $90.

There's lots of Avenues Nintendo could have went down and instead they went down an Avenue that literally continues to alienate the market

I honestly don't believe it's the console itself that would cause the switch to fail. If it fails, I blame Nintendo decision around the device like all the online info that had come out, overpriced accessories. Also the games need to be there and not just the usual suspects and the few foot in foot out third party launch support. It needs full support.

Damn. Its crazy. In some news its the best for other its the worst. The Switch wont flop, its a nice portable, the only choice, got first party games from Nintendo and it will sell. Of course nobody, with half a brain, thinks it will reach the Wii sales, but it wont be worst then the Wii U.

It won't do a Wii or PlayStation level numbers but i don't think it'll flop like the wii u. I'm thinking anywhere from 30m-50m consoles sold which really isn't bad for a Nintendo console. I think Nintendo would be more than happy with that. Who knows though, anything can happen.

The Switch will pick up come Christmas 2017 for sure. Just how supported will the console be.

My concern for the Switch, if I were interested in it, would be a steady stream of quality games. Nintendo can only produce so many games with it's first party studios and for the most part, the 3rd party publishers and studios are not interested in the Switch. Of those that are, many are only bringing old games that have been released on other platforms previously or are scaled down versions much like the Wii and WIIU received. So where will all the games come from? Where will the new IPs come from? Unless Nintendo secures more support from 3rd party publishers, I see their ability to offer AAA titles to their players severely limited and I honestly do not feel that Nintendo is interested in more 3rd party support nor do I feel the majority of 3rd party publishers want to deal with a lower spec system and spending the investment to configure their games for the Switch when their projected sales are most likely very low. Nintendo's reliance on their own IPs may have earned them a hardcore following for those games, but they have really painted themselves into a corner because it will be a barren wasteland in between those few titles.

If anything needs to fail its N4G for allowing these lame articles to be posted.

Plz dont connect Zelda to switch its not even an exclusive. To be honest I dont like the console at all and its nothing than enhanced Wii U that wont enhance 3rd party relation. But, its been 2 days, Nintendo can flip cards and support this console heavily and lead it to safe area with early cut of price as they did with 3ds. If this console tagged 249 bucks or lower its gonna sell well.

Haters will hate fans will love it's as simple as that for any console. One thing to remember though look at the Xbox one and ps4 when then came out. The OS on them both were bare bones. Half the things with have on them today was not there. The switch is new give it time to get the updates ect Nintendo has in store. The games line up is also not poor at all. Go back and look at the Xbox one and ps4 line up it was not the best at all and the AAA games were also one the ps3 and 360 at the time. Every month there is a new game on the switch the other two did not have this. Yes there are a lack of games at the moment but spreading them out is a better option imo as for someone like me who has less time to game can work on one game at a time. I am enjoying my switch right now and it is very good at what it dose. Will it be a hit I don't know but we will know the answer in the next 18 months I would expect.

The Switch is the most expensive, underpowered console, third party support is just itching to pull the plug like they did the wiiu, it has no other use than to play Zelda and the competition has all the advanyages. Everything points to the Switch becoming a flop.

It'll probably do just fine, I've seen the TV commercial, the casuals are gonna lap it right up. Kids too. It's clearly not aimed at hard-core gamers.

Wouldn't be surprised if it did what the Wii did. Couldn't keep up with demand for the hardware (sheer ignorance on their part). Didn't have software to back it up and just threw shovelware at it for the most part. Hardware success and some software did well, but overall the console isn't one of those things you needed. Granted, I'm probably getting one. I have a nice job where I can sit and play Zelda on nightshift. This seems like a winner to me and for those of us who would like a console like game but don't have the TV setup where we would like to play.

I game on all the platforms, not a fanboy of any console, and the portable that docks, I certainly did not want as I am not into portables and I wanted a traditional Nintendo console with specs at minimum better than my soon to be 4 year old consoles I already own.

If I want to play Zelda I will just rent it on the Wiiu as they look and perform similar. I have my isuues with the Switch as a console but I don't want it to fail. All gamers win when all three console makers have viable hardware on the market.

I agree and I thought IGN's review summed it up perfectly. It's too bulky to be a true portable device and it's too far behind the power curve to be a home console. It's a jack of all trades/master of none device.

This is a very short editorial. Many incorrect statements here. The one that stood out to me was the price against a PS4. Remember you cant compare today's price of a PS4 to a new piece of hardware. PS4 cost more at launch and had no games also. Same for Xbox One. But the author seems intent on the Switch failing so all the power to him I guess. IMO the Switch has a very unique position in the market out there, which I made use of this weekend. I took my Switch with me and it sure made everyone around me interested in what I was playing, but kept me occupied for 2 hours while I was at the doctors waiting to be seen (Sunday wait times are long). So its already got an advantage over the other choices out there. Just my 2c.

I did find it quite funny that this was right next to the link for the article where GameStop claimed it was the strongest console launch seen in years. Not that I support either side of the matter I just found it ironic and funny.

Regarding the launch lineup critics and naysayers. I agree, one game isn't a great launch...only...that one game is A Breath of the Wild - one of (already) the best videogame of all time - AND the fact numerous other titles have been released alongside it. I mean, let's for arguments sake say the Switch launched only with Zelda. Which type of brat is going to then want more games to play when said one game offers so much, is so rich, detailed, playable and HUGE.

Nobody knows at this point how well the Switch will do in the market. But it looks good for Nintendo so far. The true test comes over the holidays, when both Mario and Zelda will be in place. The system itself does what it needs to do rather well. It's a unique hybrid, and as such, has no real competition. It's also Nintendo, which alone guarantees a different experience from the rest of the console market. The lightweight technology won't be an issue for the mass market. Bleeding-edge tech is not what this system is about. That has never been what Nintendo consoles are about.

Soooooo when the switch was first announced ton of my no gamer friends wanted one. Then after a few months and then when the price point was announced half of my friends were like maybe they will get it during the holiday season. Now that's it's out the ones that didn't get one want one. I dunno why but but a lot of them just really really want one though they were iffy about for the past few months. I think Nintendo will be fine if they have games coming out. But if their is a huge drought this system is going to fail.

I own every system released in 2000+... i just enjoy having all options but could not buy a switch on the release bc of the lack of a real developed catalog plus the issues in early reviews. I hope they sort it out bc i am sure to buy once onsale or 3 to 5 good nintendo titles are released

While I don't believe the device is going to sell nearly as well as PS4, I don't think it's fair to pawn it off as a failure for any reason yet. It has appeal, and I see no reason why it can't at least outsell Wii U and GC. Nintendo just has to get some real support for it.

A nintendo success is a great thing for the industry as a whole, and as much as I want Nintendo to succeed, I don't see it happening. I think the market they're targeting with this largely doesn't exist. I hope I'm wrong, but this feels like the Wii U all over again.

Stupid article, This is the first Nintendo system ive bought since gamecube and so far a very satisfying experience. I have it hooked to my monitor and have even used it around the house with no problems. As for Zelda, it an awesome game with so much to do and interact with. For me its a beautiful game and the gameplay design is brilliant, they really put a lot of thought into it. I don't understand the hate, especially if you haven't played it or used the system but to each their own. Have fun spewing while I continue having fun in Zelda.

It's having a pretty great launch from what I've heard. It's more of a companion console. I know alot of people with PS4s that bought one; not to replace PS4, just as a second console while they still play FIFA, BF1, and Overwatch on PS4.

Nintendo's online may fail, however, because of so few games. I can only think of MK and SB that would be popular but not sure if any one on PS4 is going to pay another $30 per year to play online when they're happy with the weekend sport and FPS sessions with the buds.

I've actually played the game (on my wii u) unlike most of you clearly, and no it coming out with a new console didn't drastically change its score. It's an amazing game, whether the genre is not for you, technical aspects are super duper important to you, you are going through an "edgy games" phase still or really are just a butthurt fan boy attacking something they can't have....I dunno, but let's not be so ridiculous

only games to get closse to as impressive this gen for me have been bloodborne (which got shafted in reviews) and overwatch

If Zelda is any indication on the quality of software coming to the thing, its going to be a smash hit.. Zelda i can already say is the best game in the series of all time period.. The quality of the console is top notch also

The thing that this guy, and a lot of doomsayers can't get their head around is that the switch is not only the replacement for the WiiU, it's also the replacement for the 3Ds. it is not just a home console, it is a handheld. And it will replace both, going forward.

So you'll have the nintendo fans picking one up, and you'll have the poeple that want something else decent to play games on the go on, once nintendo stops supporting the 3ds. (it might even get a dedicated handheld version, but that's just specualtion on my part)

chuck a console strength main series pokemon on the thing (maybe made with the botw engine), plus mk8/9, portable skyrim, the rumousred portable dark souls and whatever else the stack of indies, third parties and nintendo chuck at it. and you;ll have yourself a pretty successful machine;
