Very cool. Makes for less hoops to jump through.

christocolus3365d ago (Edited 3365d ago )

They don't even have to go through certification per say before they self publish also they don't have to include achievements in their games. It's basically a seamless process.

curious... did they ever release the dev kit software to make any xb1 into a development kit? I haven't heard much more about that.

LexHazard793365d ago (Edited 3365d ago )

@darth, you need to download the dev app on your xbox one.

Yetter3365d ago

@darth sort of. Right now its open for Win10 apps but not for games. This announcement certainly implies that it will be for games very shortly

Opening publishing on Win10 and XBox One. That's awesome. They will have their own personal Store as well. That's really cool. Developers will be able to put whatever games they want on Win10/XB1 for sale.

What happen to the "every Xbox one system has a game developers option"
???

XMarkstheSpot3364d ago

You DL the Xbox developer app on the Xbox that turns it into a Dev kit when active for debugging and what not. Been there for awhile now

gangsta_red3365d ago

Sounds like something similar to XNA. I enjoyed a few games from the XNA community so this is some good news.

Lord Phil is definitely in command ;)

TheCommentator3365d ago

👍 All this good news coming before E3? Third thing in a week that no one knew was coming! MS has something up their sleeves if they can afford to drop these nuggets now.

BTW, I'll only call him Lord Phil if E3 is full of gaming surprises though, which I suspect is what they are doing.

KillBill3364d ago

You will be shocked when the Scorpio specs are actually announced. It speaks for itself and really little can be said from others on what it shows. If nothing else but that, truly a big enough announcement that it shuts up anyone instantly who talked trash.

But there is more on the exclusive side that will make people talk.

Razzer3365d ago

Not really like XNA. XNA was development tools. Stardew Valley on PC was built with XNA. This is more of cutting the red-tape kind of program.

gangsta_red3365d ago

How about more like the XNA community and how they didn't really have to go through Xbox certification to sell their games on the 360 and how they had their own type of community free from Xbox guidelines...

Gazondaily3365d ago

A good step forward for indie devs

343_Guilty_Spark3365d ago

Very very bigly!!!

The downvoters are so fake! Sad!

DillyDilly3365d ago

I guess they are freeing up time from their E3 conference

XanderZane3365d ago

Making for time for them to show games hopefully.

game4funz3365d ago

That is the curious part isnt it.
Why they making so many e3 like announcements before e3?

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

darthv72908d ago

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

isarai908d ago

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ908d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil908d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Orchard1279d ago

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows901279d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos1279d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows901279d ago (Edited 1279d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Profchaos1279d ago (Edited 1279d ago )

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
