Playing Mass Effect: Andromeda Left Us Conflicted - GameSpot

GameSpot: "Mass Effect: Andromeda is out in less than a month. There was a lot I enjoyed during my hands-on time, but there were also some things that left me worried."

That's not good. While submitting the previews, I noticed they didn't upload new footage with them, which is rare.

OB1Biker3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

I dont know. Havent seen new footage from previews usually. I mean even for horizon they just showed what GG wanted them to show didnt they?
There are the combat videos though

Edit.
Most previews are very positive

Overload3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

I'm not talking about the gameplay, he state that the game he played wasn't close to ready. Bugs, glitches, audio syncing, frame rate, etc. Them not uploading video is a bit of a red flag after hearing that.

Vhampir3373d ago

Giant Bomb said roughly the same thing. All the "gameplay" we see is nothing more than in-engine cut-scenes. A month from release, and we still haven't seen live gameplay. I expect this will be $30 in a month.

sampson31213373d ago

remember, this is on the heels of these guys playing Horizon Zero Dawn so that game, amazing as everyone that's played says, might have raised the bar for any game that is due out this year.

Overload3373d ago

The main concern was the game being unfinished.

sampson31213373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

Overload: yes it was a concern.

Having a quality AAA game,Horizon Zero Dawn, release early in the year gives the whole industry a jolt and gets developers creative juices going.

The bar has been set, it's now up to other devs to step it up.
That can only be a good thing right?

Mass Effect: Andromeda will launch March 21 and if we're to believe the concerns stated in the article, then yes, we should be a tad concerned as well especially because of the size of the game.

And for others that misunderstood what i said in my first comment, i meant Guerrilla Games set the bar high with the game running so smoothly and looking so great.

OB1Biker3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

I know the glitches are actually the only thing that worries me a bit but hopefully they working on it.
Like I said though, I dont think not uploading videos is unusual for Previews
Its not 'rare' at all

Overload3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

I submit most of the previews here, they usually come attached with game play footage on the bigger sites. If it's not a video preview, there is 10-15 mins of footage. Prey for example, had tons of footage and it releases 2 months later than Mass Effect Andromeda.

pandehz3373d ago

Umm the title is misleading considering they just praised the game.

Overload3373d ago

DId you just watch it? He is concerned the game is being rushed out not ready for launch.

gamer93373d ago

They released 2 substantial videos in the past week and another one is on the way. And I’ve seen plenty of previews without additional footage attached to them. Not sure what you’re getting at.

Femto3373d ago

bioware confirmed that the press release build is old, all the problem should be ironed out, glitches should be the least of anyone's worry

OB1Biker3373d ago

Hopefully. I wouldn't be surprised if there r a few problems even after day one patch but I think the previews are on PC too so there's that. I tend to think console versions are usually better optimised.

Femto3373d ago

@OB1Biker yeah there were some pc problems to some of the media outlets but these things are really minor and will get ironed out. I'm not really worried about anything on the technical side on pc or console on launch but rather how the story and characters will be and so far from what we know it sounds very promising

Overload3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

3 weeks before launch, the press should be playing a solid version of the game. Of course all of this will be fixed, the question is, will it be fixed by launch?

My concern is that it's "just more mass effect". What made the original great was its uniqueness. Like with the original halo trilogy, 4-5 havent faired as well. I just worry andromeda will miss that "wow" factor of something new.

-Foxtrot3374d ago

That's why I felt they replaced Shepard, to get away from the old trilogy but seriously with the way it ended and that 5 second clip in the secret ending where you see Shepards body in rubble gasp for air they could have done something.

He's badly hurt, put in cryosleep, they decide to explore a new galaxy and drag Shepard along with them because of his skills. Not hard really.

I mean with or without him this still feels like Mass Effect, they'll not get away from that so they may aswell embrace it.

3374d ago
-Foxtrot3374d ago

Spoilers? Really

You are in an article about the 4th game and you aren't expecting to see anyone talk about the 3rd game...right.

SaveFerris3373d ago

Ryder can't handle the Kett? Revive Shepard, who takes over command and easily defeats the Kett, helps establish colony, and then proceeds to romance every eligible female and Asari in the Andromeda galaxy. The End.

OB1Biker3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

MEA initiative starts before ME3 chronologically

thekhurg3373d ago

The andromeda initiative took place during the original trilogy. They wouldn't have been able to take him along when the journey first began.

TomKnowles3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

That secret ending only happened if you destroyed the reapers, which means they would had to have taken one of the endings as canon.

Perjoss3373d ago

What does it cost you to add a spoiler warning at the start of your comment?

Kaneki-Ken3373d ago

I rather continue with Shepard so I will recreate his face in the new game.

CorndogBurglar3373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

Shepard was cool and all but I never got the vibe that he was the kind of iconic character that would become a series staple. I think the fact that the player can basically make him act however they want plays a big part in that. It leaves the character himself kind of an empty shell whose personality is largely determined by each individual player.

He certainly didn't seem like an icon in the sense of Master Chief or Kratos or something along those lines. Characters like that make their series seem unfathomable without them. Mass Effect can easily move on without Shepard.

2pacalypsenow3373d ago

@USCBOY1996

If you haven't beaten ME 3 by now that's your fault if it's a spoiler.

If you want a different game, get a different game. Mass Effect is going to be Mass Effect.

chris2353373d ago

well, it's the 4th title of a so-si franchise. if you seriously expect more than a filler title after you gave moneyfor it then - sorry, but then you are delusional. like everybody who is expecting brilliance out of a title with a 4 behind it

_-EDMIX-_3373d ago

What's wrong with more mass effect? And to be honest I didn't care for the original Mass Effect I actually like Mass Effect 2 and 3 much more because they are properly able to execute what they were trying to convey.

The original Mass Effect was just trying to do a lot of things that clearly they weren't able to get done that it sounds like this game is able to achieve much more than the original considering the planets are larger and there's more of a focus on exploration in regards to allowing the user to level up based on what they've explored in terms of research and development.

If anything be specific on what you're talking about with this well Factor because it's too vague to really understand what you're talking about as it sounds like you just personally want something different but like somebody's already stated if you want something different then don't play this game.

I'm not entirely sure why the 4th Mass Effect game should not be like Mass Effect....

tdogchristy903373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

It's not that series cannot continue. I welcome more mass effect. But gamers do tend to talk about fatigue and wanting new IPs. Ultimately what I'm saying is no matter the series, after so many games the newness and wow factor kind of wear off. The first couple games of a series are always exciting cause you don't know what to expect, by the time of the 4,5,6 title (halo, cod, mass effect, ect) those feelings of what made the original unknowns so great is kind of lost. That's all I'm saying.

_-EDMIX-_3373d ago

@tdog- what does that actually matter to this game considering it's supposed to take place outside of the original trilogy?

BioWare is also making a new intellectual property so what you're saying is actually irrelevant I have no idea what that actually has to do with Mass Effect.

With your logic ,can we not have both?

So what exactly do you even know about Mass Effect Andromeda because in my personal opinion and simply based on Logic for something to actually remain "unknown" you have to not know it , so you basically telling me you know all of Mass Effect Andromeda and its future titles?

EmperorDalek3373d ago

Very positive overall, just some polish issues. Should hopefully be fixed for the final game.

freshslicepizza3373d ago

the game is only a month away, i fear there will be tons of bugs still present. i know many wont like the action direction it has been going towards but i like the combat.

my fear is what ea will do in the future with this game and go after more payment. whether its locking out content/planets through dlc or taking the destiny approach and making these huge dlc packs.

i already preordered the game because i love the mass effect universe and this looks absolutely stunning but it might be not be ready yet.

Cobra9513373d ago (Edited 3373d ago )

If there are significant issues, one month is not nearly enough time to address them. Not only that, they don't HAVE a month. They don't have a week. At this point, the final build for launch has to be in place already, or very nearly so. You don't hand in a newly compiled release build on Tuesday and get the discs and downloads distributed on Wednesday. There is a lot of lead time for manufacturing and distribution. Day One patch incoming for sure, and even it won't have enough development time to fix everything mentioned in the video.

EmperorDalek3373d ago

Depends on the build they received. The missing textures, for example, could be a sign of a slightly older build.

Day one patches are common these days, so I'm sure most of the issues will be fixed for launch.

Pintheshadows3373d ago

600 years later right?

But still using all the same guns?

thekhurg3373d ago

The initiative began during the original trilogy. The technology isn't going to be that different. The new tech in the game is actually from the other races.

MercyKiller3373d ago

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

3373d ago
CorndogBurglar3373d ago

They were on a ship sleeping for 600 years. Where do you expect them to gst better tech from?

I'm sure there will be new weapons from the new races though.

Elit3Nick3373d ago

There's quite a few new weapons spotted:

Assault Rifles:
P.A.W., Sweeper, Sandstorm, Thokin, Cyclone, L-89 Halberd

Pistols:
Equalizer

Shotguns:
Dhan, Hesh, Ruzad

Sniper Rifles:
Inferno, Isharay, Lanat

Seems like some 30-40% of the weapons will be new, a LOT of ME3's weapons are returning.

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast487d ago (Edited 487d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul486d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow486d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake486d ago (Edited 486d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

ZeekQuattro486d ago

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

Mass Effect Companion Tier Ranking

One of the best things about the Mas Effect series is the companions you meet along the way. So here is a tier list of all the companions from Mass Effect!

IAMRealHooman528d ago

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast528d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine528d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast528d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman528d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast528d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

IAMRealHooman527d ago

it's like bitch but your shirt back on, your not blue or spikey get away from me

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

thorstein563d ago

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics563d ago (Edited 563d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac562d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992563d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX563d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9563d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne563d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast563d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne563d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog563d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay563d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000563d ago (Edited 563d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon563d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT563d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon563d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139563d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein563d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
