For Sony - they said "Sony's in serious trouble" and then they list the price range for the PS3 at $400-500. I didn't know it was $500 bucks for a PS3.

For Microsoft - they went on to describe the 360 and said "with a promise of a great season of games" and the cheapest system available "there's never been a better time to own a 360" - spoken exactly like Microsoft at every conference.

Before the Xbox 360 price cuts, one would think that the Xbox 360 was in trouble because sales had "hit a wall" even with a $279 price point and the PS3 was outselling the 360 in the United States.

Unlike Microsoft, Sony has America, Europe, and Japan tugging on PS3 sales.

The only thing keeping the 360 relevant in Japan is exclusive/timed exclusive JRPG's, but the momenteum that those JRPG's causes in Japan for the 360 don't last for no more than 2 weeks. Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the Xbox 360's Last Hope in Japan, literally.

The bigger question to me is after Gears 2 drops for the 360, what other future game coming out on the 360 will make people buy a 360 in 2009 because right now I don't see any.

Personally I think that Microsoft has run out of system sellers and there's possibly 3 or 4 studios working on Halo games because whenever Microsoft runs out of games, they can always release a new Halo game can't they? The fact that there's so many upcoming Halo games for the 360 just proves the fact that the 360 and the Xbox brand itself is too dependant on the Halo franchise for success.

That video was obviously biased towards the 360 because they didn't even mention the PS3's strong points and the strong lineup of games that the PS3 has.

1. I can guarantee that the story image of this story WILL be on the top of the front page by Sunday. Mark my words. These types of things ALWAYS find their way there. WHY? Because we keep getting suckered into making comments ABOUT them and READING the damn things.

2. Are these people HIGH? They provided VERY false information (400-500 for a PS3? Have they went into a STORE recently?), the things they display contradict everything they say (they show three games for the PS3 and two games for the 360 yet it's the PS3 that's in serious trouble, and they didn't even bring UP MGS4), I have yet to SEE a cheaper Blu-Ray player on the market (which BD player are THEY looking at?), they forget to even mention why many companies cut prices of their products (supply and demand is lower than expected across a number of months, yet MS's box is "flying off of shelves"), there was absolutely NO mention of MS's hardware reliability woes (the way they were talking about the 360, I can see why they would omit anything about that), they go to GAME DAILY (the same place that employs Chris Buffa, a guy that basically thinks we should refer to his word about the games he opines about like it's the gospel even when he gets stuff about said games completely backwards before whining about people not seeing it his way and getting THEIR reasons for calling him on his "facts" backwards, too) and refer to a GAMESTOP person in said GD article about the "Wii Shortage" (yeah, you're going to get VERY reliable quotes from THOSE two places) and then trust them with all their heart and soul (even when the Wii shortages are FINALLY beginning to go away), and not even a mention of any Wii games.

Something I've noticed is that the media is very centered around 'prices'. I do believe prices play their role but I believe it's over-emphasized in many cases. That's not to say I don't think the Xbox 360 is in a good position with its price drop... but I don't believe that the PS3 is now in a bad position because of it. The PS3 has been outselling or going toe-to-toe with the 360 this year in America (worldwide it's doing even better) despite its significantly higher price point. This is happening because people see 'value' in it. I'm not going to make any predictions in this comment, but I don't see how it's in trouble when it's been doing great all year and is just NOW getting out many of its big titles.

Also keep in mind that the Gamecube reached an even lower price than the 360 arcade has, but sales were never really that spectacular for it. I'm not saying that the 360 will follow this same path, but I don't believe there's a 'magic number'. I believe that console hardware sales are moved more by the games than by the price the product's being offered for. Of course if the console is highly overpriced I believe it can discourage buyers a little bit more... but I don't see any of the consoles being 'highly' overpriced. You're getting your money's worth with what you get within the PS3 too. Yes, some may not want or need all of them, but regardless of that it's a bargain for its feature set.

The Wii is perhaps the only console I'd say is a tad too high for what it is... but it's a craze that can't seem to be stopped! I know some believe it's only sold as good as it has because of its low price, but I don't see it that way at all. No, it doesn't appeal to everyone, but Nintendo tapped into a huge audience and people have even been willing to spend ridiculous amounts for one on Ebay.

I know people like to look at it all from a competition stand-point, but no matter who comes out on top this holiday season, each one is almost guaranteed to see fantastic sales. I don't believe there will be a true 'loser'. Just those who do well and those who do better. We'll have to wait and see just who does what.

sony screwed up with pricing, psn being wacked at release, games to far apart and not enough big games, and pushing games back they promised. either way the ps3 is still selling and will continue to sell, the ps3 was known to all of us as being more powerful so its no surpirse to us, but yet the cheaper consoles with more games minus blueray is still beating it in game sales and beating it with live users.

Price is everything but so is the games and until now minus a few exceptions the ps3 has little and then compare the multiplat games being better on the cheaper 360 then the ps3 has even less firepower.

other then exclusives and blueray, why would buy a ps3 besides if your a ps fan and love sony, if you love games why would buy a ps3 when the competition has the same games and they play better on 360 and the console is 199 now. gamers want games. parents want savings.

1. The thing about "Sony conspiracies" always get me around here. An article that has a whole bunch of backwards facts that is never checked and things carefully omitted to promote the view you want without the middle man gets posted, everyone (well, nearly everyone) calls them on their lack of fact checking and says that they don't agree, and then a few people decide to call conspiracy because of said calling, as if everyone who dares disagree with their 360-fanboy-approved article is automatically a Sony fanboy before they even KNOW them. No one here ever said that the PS3 is without it's faults, but this article failed to see that NONE of the consoles are perfect, and they really spun the facts in order to make the 360 out to smell like a rose without even mentioning the reasons why some people aren't rushing to get a 360 right now (hardware reliability woes, not as much of a game lineup this holiday season, NO Blu-Ray (something ELSE they didn't mention that I forgot to add)). Maybe if they DID mention some of the known 360 faults, then maybe those "Sony conspiracy" callers would have a case, but not here.

Not sure if I should mention this here (since I thought they would make it alot worse than they did), but I'll add this to the conversation, anyway: Another one of these "Playback episodes" (which, by the way, is narrated in part by a guy who does narration for Animal Planet. Sounds like a talented guy, but not the first guy I'd go to to host a video game news reel) covered the Wipeout HD epilepsy thing, and during their coverage, they had a few very weird images, followed by the thing I thought was completely irresponsible at first, but maybe not AS irresponsible as I first imagined it would be (since it could've been shown much faster than they showed it, but still could concern some REALLY photosensitive people): The scene from the Pokemon TV series (not JUST the episode, but the scene itself) that caused all those seizures in Japan 11 years ago. Now these people slowed the flicker scene to an absolute crawl (reason I thought it was irresponsible was because I thought it was going to be shown at a bit faster speed than they showed it and I clicked away as I didn't want to take the chance, but braved it out later on). Maybe I was just being paranoid (I'm not photosensitive, though I'm sure anyone could understand once you see the way they went about showing that (and waited until the last second to explain that the "censored" the scene) how anyone could be sort of concerned about how much "scene" they would show). Still, though, kind of irresponsible (just my opinion). I know of a few people that ARE photosensitive that could still get headaches and crap from even THAT slow of a flicker (that are otherwise perfectly normal human beings).

EDIT@badkolo down below: Like I said, no one here was denying the PS3 faults, but right now, those faults are few and far between. No one is claiming (yet) that you are ignoring the 360's faults. What we're saying is that this particular site got the facts about the system (not the opinions like Sony being behind a rock and a rock, but the claim that the PS3 is still 500-600 bucks when it's at 299 now) all wrong and never saying that they 360 HAS any faults. YOU didn't omit any faults, THEY did, and THEY are the people WE'RE talking about.

PS3 will do fine in the long run. They have the most solid hardware and the best first party support. Wii and 360 will have its moment in the sun but the PS3 has a gaining momentum.

Well the problem with your theory is this.

None of real gamers care, besides the bickering back and fourth it really doesnt matter.

Ill explain why. I will use myself for examle, mid 30's, financialy secure, Own all the consoles and all the bigscreens and goodies, have a girl a life and friends. In the big picture im here cause i love the internets, I love chatting etc..

Now in reality the truth is I couldnt give 2 craps about who wins, The same way the wii isnt for me so i dont play it besides the big games like mario. The ps3 that i won doesnt get used unless its exclusives and i play my 360 time to time.
Now in the end if one fails, like any normal human being i will move onto the next console so i can play my games.

Now if i was 11 to 16 years of age then maybe since i have no bills or any sort of adult real world life then maybe somehow it would be imprtant to me if one console beats the other but it doesnt work tat way, becuase we play games not consoles.

Well the ps3 has already lost market share and won't be getting it back. Microsoft's plan on coming out a year early definitely shook Sony's stronghold on the gaming market. So what should Sony do? A price cut? Or keep losing market share? That's a tough question. Sony is still losing money on the ps3 and can't afford another price cut. The 360 on the other hand is still not losing any money on consoles sold even with the price cut. And a huge variety of monster games coming out this Christmas season and you can easily see why the ps3 is in trouble. I think they main problem for the ps3 is the their main horse and that is the cheap bluray player because once bluray players get cheaper its over for the ps3.

And of course the wii is kicking everybody's asses but I put the wii up there with toys like tickle me emo.

It really does not matter if the PS3 is in last place. Sony has three, consoles out that are selling. So, it is not like the PS3 is going to go anywhere anytime soon. If, you a PS3 owner why care? You going to still have the best hardware, and you going have a ton of games to play that only you are going to enjoy. People keep saying there is no games for PS3 what are they talking about? We get all the multi games and then some. In the next two years. We as PS3 owners we have some great games to play here is a list to look forward to including multi games.

I've accepted that my console, the Xbox 360, has had some tough times over the years. It's recently had great competition by the PS3 - Many said 2008 would be the year of Sony. And they were right. So far. But this year is already winding down. I feel 2009 will be the 360 year again. But I can't be sure. Whatever the truth is, that's what I will accept.
