A Network Showdown: Does Xbox LIVE or PSN Prevail?

Dan Tallarico writes:

"PSN yins and Live yangs: without the one, would we even have half of what we do have in the other? It's hard to pick one over the other when they complement each other like salt compliments a pretzel. I'll tell you this though: they both beat the hell out of WiiWare."

I Agree with the Author, the PSN is indeed the Champion of Online Gaming

cemelc6449d ago

Name games in XBL that can compare to this ones:

Warhawk.
Siren.
GT5.
WipeOut HD.

This.

But PSN will prevail when Home is launched.

The PS3 has worked wonders, for your patience...

...hasnt it?

:)

The 360 has worked wonders for your repair shop...

...Hasn't it?

:)

beans6449d ago

Well my wii is better then your xbox and ps2 now what?

ChrisGTR16449d ago

yea shure, W/E... thats exactly what you said before in game xmb came out and then you ate your words. still less than 10 games with thophies and less then 5 with music support. some amazing imporvement indeed. meh.

poopsack6449d ago

im not sure i can even say THAT. Can wii play DVD's?

beans6449d ago

You just completely destroyed my argument lol. I'm starting to really wonder if the wii is truly a repackaged gamecube. If so this may be the biggest scam in history for what there asking people to pay.

gokuss1220026449d ago (Edited 6449d ago )

...to me, psn (specifically the store vs the arcade) is better now. Although Sony is doing some slacking, the ideas that they have/are implemented/ing make it better.

1. The psn (playstion period)is offering exclusive experiences through original IPs such Pain, CaC, SupRubDub (very good game), and echocrome, just to name a few.

2.With games like warhawk, gtp and socom confrontations you can purchase full game (not just bitsize) experiences from your couch. With siren (horror tv show like game), you choose which episodes you want.

3.The whole concept behind RQfB, allowing you to download a shortened full next-gen game. This allows you to get your *insert favorite IP* fix before *inserted game* 2 or 3 actually comes out.

Also concept behind Siren is great too. Most games are setup in x number of missions. Imagine following the siren model and being able to pay a percentage of the cost of a "full game" for a few missions (like RQfB) or a single mission. I think as long as the pricing is right episodic games can be great.

4 Qore is great, particularly the opportunities to get your hands on demos/betas early.

5 Xbl is free....money for MS. There no reason to be repaying to play an aspect of a game, especially considering XBL HAS ADs for non gaming stuff which pays MS millions. Some people say "...it doesn't cost that much..."

look at it this way, if you buy a 360 game, you will be excluded from the online portion of the game you purchased unless you pay a monthly fee. Also if there are multiple people that play that system (brother etc), you have to either share a profile or pay for multiple accounts.

P.S. MS (and Lazy sellout devs) are gimping this gen. MS seems to ONLY care about profiting and will cut whatever corners they can *DVD, RRoD, XBL ADs, overpriced proprietary HDD, HD-DVD addon....*. They don't care about the gamers *only as customers* and they don't care about screwing over their customers (as they have done over and over again and not just in gaming).

thenickel6449d ago

Oh please can it already. It's all about money and MS isn't the only company that wants it. Live is ahead of PSN and it's as simple as that so quit stating your biased opinion like it's factual. If you honestly believe that MS is just sitting there not taking the necessary steps to stay ahead of Sony then your a fool. You belong in the open zone trolling like that and should be asahmed of yourself typing all that BS to read just because you think what you have is better.

Delive6449d ago

You actually took the time to read all that and reply? :)

I have both, play the PS3 more (90% to 10%) But I can recognize that XBL is still ahead of PSN. The thing I like though, Unlike EA's monopoly on the NFL license, Both are driving each other to be better through competition. PS has to at least strive to match MS' offerings to survive. MS has to keep ahead of the wave. With no competition, they would have little incentive to make leaps and bounds and offer little, cheap, minimal changes each year and charge you full price for it.

Popeye6449d ago (Edited 6449d ago )

I agree with both of you. Competition is great for all gamers, but pure elitest idioctic horsesh**(like goku's post) is not.

badz1496449d ago

I'm all for free subscription! plus, PSN allows for multiple account on different region and that's awesome!

now maybe live has an edge

but when home,r2,lbp comes and trophies get popular and include a head set in every ps3 to make it more alive,to feel the heat of competition

I guess psn will be better, even much better cause it's free

I truly wish sony change the xmb cause I don't like it

revamp it like you did with the ps store

psnSkareFace6449d ago

i agree xmb can sometimes be slow thats all they need 2 change i think

darkdoom30006449d ago

on the fact they need to change the XMB. I think is fine as it is, nothing really to change. mabye being able to paste in specific folders
- like for my old MP3 player, the music needed to go on the root folder, but the Ps3 always pastes it in the E:/MUSIC folder. i need to then go on the PC and swap it.

thats probally it... i dont really know what they could change. + home is comming out :)

thereapersson6449d ago

It's useless to say that you have a feature, when only half the games released utilize it.

Fishy Fingers6449d ago

Trophies are meant to go mandatory Jan 1st. The cross-game features, well that's in Sonys hands, they need to get that sorted out for sure.

Delive6449d ago

How many games integrate PS3/PSP cross functionality? That would be a feature MS has no way of matching and a big advantage Sony is slipping on. An RPG where you can do Mini quest on the PSP and transfer your character data back and forth. Hot Shots golf has no excuse for not using this method.

pp6449d ago

PSN = LAG

XBOX LIVE = NO LAG

Dark General6449d ago

Have you ever played a game online on Psn? If you did you would probably know that lag is not common. Unless it's some crappy 3rd party title who didn't take their time with the servers.

Shadow Man6449d ago (Edited 6449d ago )

Wow I can't believe you said that ps3 boys won't be happy.

cemelc6449d ago

Lag????? The only place that have lag these days is xbl.

The report section should be like this:

Off topic.
Offensive.
Spam.
Stupid.(5 bubbles per account, once is reached banned ip).

If that was the case we wouldn't have to speak with ppl like @pp.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle19d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

And then MK1 killed it again.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7728d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga28d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199227d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga27d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman27d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

blacktiger27d ago

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box28d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion27d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7228d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7527d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit27d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14928d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7728d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
