Well, that didn't take long. Not that I think Sony will follow through with it immediately.
It'll probably be like the motion controls situation all over again; Sony had a wand prototype first, but they didn't really do anything substantial with it until the Wii released and proved there was profit potential in the idea.
Then Sony started treating it a bit more seriously, culminating in the here and now, where Sony's trying to get them sold through VR.

Following that logic, Sony will probably only make this patent a reality after the Switch starts selling well, to ride the wave.

In other news, glad to see the Crash remaster isn't too far off. Hope it does well.

You mean when Nintendo bought the rights from gyro for the motion controls? Is why Nintendo bought the rights considering it started becoming popular on PC. Riding that wave.......ROFLMAO....Educate yourself kid.

Nothing I've said was inaccurate, let alone meant as a bash. People in the industry do this sort of thing all the time.
You, however, opened up your childish mouth for the sake of flaming.
You should be ashamed.

Get used to it, Monkey. You'll get trolled by a flash mob of ignorance in spite of being correct because facts that make Sony looks less than perfect are largely ignored around here. Sony did have the patent sitting around before the Wii released, they did wait until the Wii was successful and MS had Kinect before releasing the Move, and they are letting their blatant last gen copy/paste Move controllers be recycled as PSVR gesture controls instead of making more relevant current gen accessories for it like they should.

LOL love how fanboys now discovering this old news since 2015

I hate how fanboys on either side love to stretch the facts..When Switch was first revealed we heard "ps4 and vita does the same thing" but Nintendo has been connecting handheld with console since GBA and Gamecube.. you could even say since super nes with super gameboy player. On the other end Sony developes tech as well .. the dualshock had the best rumble compared to n64 rumble pack and dual analog sticks ..Remote play as well(plus more but to keep the conversation simple). So with these new patents it would seem Sony is looking at expanding on what it has done with vita/ps4 and make a hybrid of their own.. lets be honest here.. I personally have came up with a hybrid idea as a future direction so its not far fetched to believe big companies have the same ideas i have. Its actually a logical move forward.. its how the industry works.. if Switch ends up big, i can see Sony trying to make their patent a reality.

I always say a Good Idea is a good idea , It doesn't matter who comes up with it. What matters is how it adapts and evolves over time. I read a comments about patent holders coming to these Big Companies and presenting their idea so that they can license it to them. Most people only know what the end product is and the company that released it but know nothing about the patent holders who are behind the tech we love (or hate) LOL.

Nintendo has been trying to do the switch for like the last 20 years and at this point in time it looks like the future of gaming is most likely going to be hybrid gaming.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty7h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan10h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher7h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty7h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies121h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.
