Going hands-on with the Nintendo Switch changed my mind completely

Why the Nintendo Switch has become one of our most wanted gadgets of the year.

MakieCoco3376d ago

Would be nice to see what others think of the console. I was very negative about it at first, but after I spent time with it, I really want one.

"I see no changes, wake up in the morning and I ask myself, is Nintendo still real or has it killed itself".

jaymacx3376d ago

Great comment... I've learned the hard way not to judge something until I try it..

subtenko3375d ago

Thats why I dont listen to people like Phil Spencer

I was mostly fine with the hardware. My concern was mostly with the software and how much it would get this year. How much 3rd party companies would support it. This is the reason I'm waiting a year. My only problem with the hardware is 1. Having to use your smart phone for online gaming. 2. The JoyCon controllers see, to small for me. If it's anything like the Wii Remote when using it sideways, I don't even want to touch them. I'd stick with the Pro controller. Also, the battery life for the system and controllers when used remotely may be a problem as well. I'll try it when it somes to a kiosk at Gamestop or Best Buy.

The battery life basically matches other handhelds. How is that an issue?

Also, the battery life of the Joy Cons is 20 hours on a full charge.

What others think? Might be good, might not be good. Tear down in progress:

After getting my hands on it I'm glad I pre-ordered it... I can see this being as big as the 3DS for sure.

The only thing is the price... If it was cheaper it would be a sure fire hit straight from the go BUT I think it's going to take a year or so to get a footing :D

That's how a lot of people initially reacted. First they were very skeptical but after trying it out they were hooked. Bring the games Nintendo and this thing might be successful.

porkChop3376d ago

I think it will really take off once people take these things out to coffee shops, schools, planes, buses, etc. Once people see with their own eyes what the system can do and how it transforms, that's the selling point.

Moonman3376d ago

I agree. I will definitely be using mine as portable if I love that part of the experience. I am excited about local multiplayer and LAN play. As long as the install base loves it and it gets popular enough to have fun for portable multiplayer/online, it's going to be a success. This was a very convincing article.

Sathur3376d ago

Yeah. I will be using the switch in portable mode mostly. Imagine the interest it will recieve on the bus and on the street. It should be a success

Just like with PSVR everyone changes their mind when they get to use one themselves.

Muadiib3376d ago

Well I played my brothers PSVR before he sold it and I wasn't that impressed, it gave me motion sickness as well. I love the idea of VR but it's a few years from being ready.

wonderfulmonkeyman3375d ago

Same for me, actually. I envy the people who didn't get motion sickness and were able to find a first person perspective, something not new to gaming, to be a new innovation.
More power to them, and I'm glad they're getting their money's worth out of that $650-$700+ they spent on a Pro and the VR stuff, but when I tried it, I was similarly as unimpressed.

Thankfully, this will act as a stepping stone towards either better AR, or towards VR dive pods, so the future will be brighter because of this early tech paving the way through experimentation.

GLITCHED_3375d ago

Very true, we thought the PSVR was just another gimmick, until we played it. Sold.

I had the fortune of testing out the console last night and a lot of my concerns were answered, especially with using 1 Joy-Con for games. Having a hands on experience definitely helped with my opinion of the console

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing19d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit19d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing19d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9219d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
