PS4 and Switch for me. Who are these people who would prefer a phone game over a console game if they knew the difference?

Mobile phone gaming is tragic at best. The Switch fixes that problem, PS4 is doing well and XB1 ain't doing too bad so yh. Dead article.

I dont agree with some points in article. For example DLCs and not completed games arent console exclusivity. And about hardware and customization? If developer wants, he can make highly optimized engine directly for console. But as we know majority of third party developers dont do that for multiplatform games. But first party titles show what is possible only on consoles - highly optimized game engine written only for one type of hardware.

Another thing is, consoles are cheaper and smaller than majority of pc. Yes you can build nice and powerful htpc these days, but it costs lot of more money, because console uses custom apus, which doesnt exist on pc platform.

As also a pc gamer I understand one can build machine of dreams, choose case, gpu, cpu, ram, hdd, form factor....its great.

But there are also people, who wants to buy a machine and knowing developers will try to optimize games for that machine to run on it. If you buy pc, you have no confidence in it.

As long as there are console exclusives and people who want simply to buy a box which they can plu and play, there will be console sales. And it doesnt mean these people are dumb, as I read all the times. Me personaly, Im IT analyst and former pc builder and seller. So I can build nice pc for any price point, its no problem. I can configure it. And I can game on it. But somehow, console is much more sutiable for me. Maybe because I work with Windows computer all day, I dont want to go home and turn on another pc.

A powerful PC still costs a lot more than a PS4. GTX 1060 alone costs as much as a PS4, and your PC needs more than just a GPU to function. This is why console gaming is not going anywhere.

What's really killing console gaming is the hardcore fanboyism.

While certainly not going away soon, this console generation is very different from past ones.

1. PS4 and XOne are more similar in architecture than ever before.
2. PS4 and XOne are more similar in architecture to PC than ever before.
3. PS4 and XOne cycles are shorter than ever (PS Pro, Scorpio)
4. The next generation of consoles will not be a new generation from an architectural stand point, only marketing. Like PCs, they will retain the same base architecture with faster and better hardware, see point no.3. Like PCs, backward compatibility will be possible if our gaming gods wish it (i.e. unless they want to sell us a second copy of the same game)

There is a market for consoles, Gaming PCs are expensive and not for everyone, phones are phones. But let's not kid ourselves here, consoles are stable versions of mid-range PC technology with some tweaks mostly to bring the price down.

One thing that cannot be ignored is the resurgence of PC gaming, do people now own both a PC and a console or are there just more games this gen overall? For me, this is the first generation (I owned an Atari) that I didn't buy a console for, the real decision maker for me was paying for online, I game primarily on PC so paying for this when I only play once in a while on console didn't make sense...and I don't miss it at all.

It made me laugh that Nintendo wasn't really mentioned at all lol ... Consoles ain't going anywhere

I've been gaming on a console of one type or another since 1975. They are not going to die.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Is this like the 10th quarter in a row they're down 33% on hardware how is that even mathematically possible. You would think their mediocrity would Plateau

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
