With powerful PCs and plentiful smartphones and tablets, who even needs a console anymore?

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

All available May 5.
I think the only game here for me is Nine Sols. Was always interested in that game.
Good month for me, I wanted that particular footy game and thought it might be due. Anyway who cares, shame about the site I'll miss the comment sections. All the best everyone.
I wasn't aware it was being killed.
Consoles arent going anywhere. Whats hurting gaming is broken games, milked franchises and microtransactions.
ps4 sales say otherwise
Console gaming is still going strong. It's only the missteps of Nintendo and Microsoft that have hurt the growth of the console industry.
A lot of these things are avoidable.I don't buy season passes, micro transactions or DLC. But that's my personal preference knowing cheap game of the year additions will have all that included later.I seem to remember add on packs for many games like the Sims on PC. That wasn't cheap.
Tech is expensive. Break your phone or your PC dies without a warranty? Expensive. Graphics cards? Expensive. Complex games without buttons? Terrible. Touch screens are great. But not accurate. You'll be waiting to play something like Horizon zero dawn on a phone for a long time.
BC are for those that want to look back instead of looking forward. If you have as many games as Sony has released on PS4 disc or digital, and free games to play like DC,warframe, star trek, etc, how do you have the time to play old games? There a flood of new games every week.
Comparing ****some**** users PCs to consoles is ridiculous. The vast majority of PC users can barely run the operating system that's on it. Let alone an advanced game. And a mobile phone could never run an advanced game without running hot or dying within an hour from battery life.
Consoles are for ease of use. Gamers want to game. Not worry about configuring or customizing. Pop it in.Play. console systems are maxed for full benefit. Most graphics cards never have enough games that max the card out. Because a new one keeps coming out. It's why currently,PS4 games are matching many top PC games in animation and detail.one configuration. One focus for the developer.
Exclusives are why consoles sell. Play Star Citizen at its best on a five year old card. Good luck. And, since it's only on PC, that would be considered an exclusive worth buying if you're into space games.
Commitment? You don't have to beat a game the first day or the first week? PC has that same issue of consumers having jobs and responsibilities. Nonsense reason.
PC has whiners. Jump into any PC thread. Also,They're whining right now for games like Ni-oh to port over. Every platform has a fanboy.
The last one is a lie. 1 in a 100 are actually good? Bull $#%&. PC and mobile phones have a massive amount of shovelware released on them. On a scale that dwarfs consoles. And not every game is $50-$60. New PC games cost the same as console. Wait for a sale is always smart.
Until all consoles sell less than 10 million each, they're not going anywhere.
I own neither a 'powerful' PC, smartphone, or a tablet. I'm optimistic that console gaming will continue for a while longer at least.
