Resident Evil 7 shipped 2.5 million copies in its launch week, which is well below the numbers that Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 did. The game has gone on to ship 3 million units as of February 10, but the game needs to ship a further 1 million units by the end of March to reach Capcom's 4 million unit projections. In the English translation of an earnings Q&A session published today, Capcom management explained the downward trend and said it believes it is "wholly possible" for Resident Evil 7 to reach the forecasted target by the end of March.

WTMG's Leo Faria: "It’s been nearly ten years, but Resident Evil 7 hasn’t aged a day. Its brand new Switch 2 port not only showcases that its gameplay is still fresh and tense after all these years, but also showcases how well Nintendo’s portable can handle some of the more demanding games from the previous generation, with a handful of improvements to make it look as good as its current-gen counterparts. There’s also the fact there’s a ton of extra content for you to enjoy, from videos to entire new modes and side campaigns, so this is a worthy inclusion to the Switch 2’s currently minute library, and a great excuse for you to replay one of the most important horror games released in recent memory."

Circana data shows Resident Evil 5 as the best selling Resident Evil game in the US, ahead of Resident Evil 4 remake and Village.
