Valve 'comfortable' if virtual reality headsets fail

The software firm says its VR business is going well, as users experiment with the technology.

they have the money to not worry if it does fail but you can see they are totally commited to it.

So does/is Samsung, Sony, Google, Microsoft, etc. But the point is to try and create new markets. Looky here, Gabe is basically saying the same thing I was in that other thread.

http://vrsource.com/valves-...
**you don’t try things that don’t fail you probably aren’t trying to do anything very interesting. So we hope that we’ll find stuff that gamers will say is awesome and is a huge leap forward.**

http://n4g.com/comments/red...
**3D TVs, Experia, Vita TV, wonder book and PlayStation mobile are risky attempts at trying something new. Something that could lead to new markets. Nothing wrong with trying.**

**If a company doesn't try, you can never expand your portfolio.**

Fancy that. Gabe thinking like me.

at least valve is making vr only games that require vr and putting money into it. the best way to get people to go to vr is to make compelling software that REQUIRES the headset.

The biggest risk is never taking one. Everything worthwhile in life had a risk involved. Valve knows the risk when it set forth to create a VR system. To date the HTC Vive is the most cohesive VR experience available. It simply does everything right. I love it. Cant wait to see what they have in store for it.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing26d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit26d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing26d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
