Is For Honor’s release doomed?

The other day Jonathan White of KnowTechie recorded a quick video to talk about his thoughts on the For Honor beta and how well he thought the game would do once it was released.

There is absolutely nothing (that I've heard of) that can come even close to playing like For Honor, I think it's unique and good enough to stand on it's own two feet even amongst all the games that have came out recently or due out in the next month. However I do agree that it would have done a lot better if they released it in a drier spell for games. Rainbow Six Siege comparison is spot on too, for it's faults, R6 was proud to be different and by growing that experience, they now have a solid stable fanbase that appreciates it's uniqueness, I see For Honor being something very similar to that.

I just wanted to make the comparisons between these two games combat abilities, because I remembered the criticism's RYSE SON OF ROME received and yet no one is saying anything about it, I can't help but believe that game reviewers review games with blinkers on, anyway the game seem interesting, graphically I expected better, but it could be YOUTUBE quality not presenting the game in the vision.

I was hoping this game would have a bit more depth to it other than the combat, but seems it's going to be lacking a bit. Mount and Blade has a similar combat (although not as deep) in terms of choosing the direction you attack and defend from, plus it has bow and arrows, a sandbox RPG mode, and a 64 player multiplayer with seige weapons etc. Graphics are terrible and dated but there's a sequel coming out this year.
Also Kingdom Come Deliverance has an interesting take on sword play combat, with a fully fledged story RPG. Hoping it has a multiplayer as well.

Fear not, M&B2 is on it's way.

Except the gameplay has be tarnished by the publisher plague of the 2000's

Check this.

AAA Priced $60 game. Nonsense edition add more. Always online connection required. Pay2Win Microtransactions that aid in-game gear attaining that has stats provided by the purchase of gear. Pre-Order incentive. Over the top priced season pass that goes above the once usual $20/30, but this is now $40. Peer to Peer connections so forget stable online experience. Pointless Technical Tests that I participated in but was never given the memo that some things were off the table in terms of feedback or discussion, thus not paid as a QA tester, nor was feedback taken seriously (and how can it when there are things simply not up for debate).

Not buying it out of principle even though the gameplay was real good. The heck outta here Ubisoft clowns.

I spent well over 12 hours in the closed beta and about 15 hours in the open beta (PS4 for both). I can't wait to get my hands on the final version today. I don't think the game is going to sell millions of copies but I do think it is going to have a very strong community of gamers. There is no other game like it.

I know I'm getting it today after work.

It really needs ps4/pc/xbox cross play if it doesnt want to cannibalise itself in quiet times, the fact its segregated when ff14 isnt is a travesty

freshslicepizza3371d ago

One party won't allow that and I agree, it should be done for games that rely on a healthy amount of players. Titanfall 2 would also benefit from cross play.

The_Kills3370d ago

TitanFall 2 is painful on PC because any Titanless mode is dead. Shame since I enjoyed not doing a race to mechs and never again having a map where one wasn't up at all times.

Always every scrub blogger trying everything for clicks
Is Nioh Doomed
Is breath of the wild Doomed
Is Horizon Zero Dawn Doomed
Is Doom Doomed
I got articles for days

JayPi33371d ago

You forgot, Is the Switch DOOMED

Is the Switch the Next Wii

Is the Switch the next Wii U

Is the Switch the next N64

Is the PS4 the next PS2

It seems like to easy article bait is something either being doomed or compared to something else.

slate913371d ago

I agree, although I enjoy the ps4 and ps2 articles because its nice to realize we're witnessing history thats on point with the ps2 craze.

memots3371d ago

it took less than 3 months for PsVr on the market before "Teh doom" article made top heat at N4G .. Nothing new here

agentxk3371d ago

I don't think the concern is originality, but the fact that the game is silently releasedright behind major releases. Hell, it's almost releasing in competition to Wildlands as well. I'm pretty sure the writer is saying that people will sit down and play this a bit and then find something else to play, fortunately he's also hoping they expand the game a bit and people have something exciting to come back to.

JayPi33371d ago

I feel like if the game is good it can stand the test of time, the best thing about For Honor is that there's not much like it, the game is as frustrating as it is satisfying. There's nothing like being able to get a good combo out on the enemy, taking down enemies jumping you, or even winning by the skin of your teeth.
