There is absolutely nothing (that I've heard of) that can come even close to playing like For Honor, I think it's unique and good enough to stand on it's own two feet even amongst all the games that have came out recently or due out in the next month. However I do agree that it would have done a lot better if they released it in a drier spell for games. Rainbow Six Siege comparison is spot on too, for it's faults, R6 was proud to be different and by growing that experience, they now have a solid stable fanbase that appreciates it's uniqueness, I see For Honor being something very similar to that.
I spent well over 12 hours in the closed beta and about 15 hours in the open beta (PS4 for both). I can't wait to get my hands on the final version today. I don't think the game is going to sell millions of copies but I do think it is going to have a very strong community of gamers. There is no other game like it.
It really needs ps4/pc/xbox cross play if it doesnt want to cannibalise itself in quiet times, the fact its segregated when ff14 isnt is a travesty

I don't think the concern is originality, but the fact that the game is silently releasedright behind major releases. Hell, it's almost releasing in competition to Wildlands as well. I'm pretty sure the writer is saying that people will sit down and play this a bit and then find something else to play, fortunately he's also hoping they expand the game a bit and people have something exciting to come back to.
