Gamers obsess over it. Game developer's pay is based on it. But is the review aggregator site still relevant in the changing world of video games?

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

All available May 5.
I think the only game here for me is Nine Sols. Was always interested in that game.
Good month for me, I wanted that particular footy game and thought it might be due. Anyway who cares, shame about the site I'll miss the comment sections. All the best everyone.
It'll always remain a factor just like GameRankings and Rotten Tomatoes
Metacritic didn't matter much until Microsoft used it as a tool against Sony and PS3 last generation. Launching first and having the market to themselves, they boasted about sales, boasted about exclusives or third parties bringing over once PlayStation third party exclusives, game attach rates per console and metacritic for reviews.
Sony took all that they learned from last generation and flip the scrip on Microsoft.
Sony now has a dominating stance this generation. Sony was ready to launch a more than ready piece of hardware, is beating the competition in sales, has more exclusives from themselves, second parties and third parties, has a higher attach rate per console and took away Microsoft's chest beating of metacritic reviews. Sony now has higher rated games on PS4 compared to Xbox one.
Not one area Microsoft can cling to boast about except meaningless metrics of player engagement and shots fired in a game.
Metacritic is just one of many areas that Sony is dominating the competition to the point that the competition has pretty much shut their mouths. As soon as Microsoft gets a whiff of a talking point, Sony puts a sock in it.
It matters to fanboys. It the only way the can claim a game is better on their console.
Like really.....80 people reviews is more important than 1000, 100,000, 1m even 5m people impressions to them.
Metacritic is garbage and easy to abuse. Does anyone remember the Metacritic score for Evolve? And what a pile of pig-dump that was, and still is.
