2017 has already had a number of sleeper hits

I think Nioh already did that. No one was expecting it to be as good as it was. I'd never even heard of it til about 6 months ago. I mean it was in development longer than The Last Guardian. Over 10 years.

That would normally send alarm bells ringing.

"I think Nioh already did that. No one was expecting it to be as good as it was."

I disagree with that completely. It had many people's attention from the minute it was re-revealed that Team Ninja had a new IP coming soon this time, and several alphas and betas were up since last summer. It might have ended up even *better* than we were hoping for, but it had a good feel for quite some time since a real proof of concept was shown. It also has gotten a good amount of promotion. Many people liked the NieR demo, but it's a more under the radar than Nioh.

Gravity rush 2 is a sleeper hit. Nioh and Nier both look to appeal to more people.

Nioh is comming off the souls hype so no question it was going to be popular.
