okay, i'll have to disagree with pokemon red and blue. Those were great games. If it was so overrated, then the franchise would've died a long time ago, yet the new pokemon platinum game is the fastest selling DS game so far. In Japan it sold 1 million copies in 3 days.

sales dont necessarily equal greatness. pokemon started a downward trend in rpgs that the genre has never recovered from.

I agreed with everyone here, GTA IV deserves a place in that list, and not San Andrea.

Eh...alot of these games were great moments in gaming when they first came out. Of course if you go back to them now, they won't look like they had much of an impact.

The story was below average in Mario 64? It was the best story in a Mario game since Mario RPG.

Gunstar Heroes was an amazing arcade-like home console action game with crazy graphics for its time and non-stop gameplay. It didn't tried to be sophisticated at all...it just throw a bunch of enemies and enemies at you and says "here, deal with this."

I'm sorry...but really, who didn't have fun with Tomb Raider 1? And even more fun with Tomb Raider 2? It was a great mix of gameplay, platforming, and puzzle solving, with a decent storyline. And what games were out that could contend with Tomb Raider at the time? Jumping Flash? Pandemonium? Nights Into Dreams? No.

I agree with you on Sonic 3 and Earthworm Jim, I was never fond of Earthworm Jim and I liked Sonic 2 more than any other Sonic game. I also liked Vice City more than San Andreas. But yeah...alot of these games you had to be there

San Andreas was cool for the first few hours, then after the 17th time my 'hood was under attack' I was god dam dude, just wanna screw around.

Not reading the article and only looking at the posts that the submitter of this article and "Old Wizard" on here, it seems to me that they want for everyone to agree with EVERYTHING that they said on that site. No, not everyone is going to agree with everything you said, and even have their beliefs insulted by some of these opinions that they want people to take as fact.

And no offense, but the fact that you guys are bragging that GTA4 and the Halo games are NOT on this list ("FINALLY") is a cause for concern as to what you were trying to say there (Halo was the XBox/360's biggest IP franchise so far and anyone who dares criticizes GTA4 is called a Sony fanboy by the MS fanboys because we should be SOOOO interested in those two exclusive episodes, exclusives which may not stay exclusive for much longer the way MS keeps running it's mouth about something that they know nothing about).

I have issues with ALOT of those. EWJ was unique for its humorous style and unique gameplay, Tomb Raider was great, then sucked, and now it's great again, Pokemon is actually a good game (they seemed to just want to bash it because it would be an easy target for this kind of list).

But GTA San Andreas? They basically used the faults that GTA4 had and projected it onto the last Sony exclusive GTA, and say that the world of SA is too big (WHAT?!), which was actually why it was so praised by the GTA fanbase, while GTA4 was much smaller in size (and was one of the issues with that game). So, they basically blamed one game for another's obvious faults (which seems suspicious for all kinds of reasons).

they created this bogus list to get hits on the site.......for now on the first poster should list the games so that nobody else has to visit the site. I mean, when you say Mario 3 was the height of story line for Mario.........what? Hahah, I have played that game a billion times..and the story line is about as simple as the first. Mario was never really about story, but fun gameplay. Mario 64 set the standard for platform games in that era. Resident Evil 4 is the only one in the series that kept me around long enough to play it...and I was unaware that a lot of horror games dealt with parasites, I thought it was viruses and the living dead. At the end of the day, it is a matter of opinion..oh well.

It's their list and their opinion so I see no reason to bash it. That being said... I do completely disagree with two of those choices. Maybe some others, but there's two games on that list that are particularly special to me.

Mario 64
This was one of the most important moments in my life as a gamer. I can still remember when this game was released and the impact it had on me. That's not to say it's my 'favorite' game of all time now... but it was the first time I had ever been in awe of a game. The graphics and the gameplay completely blew me away. It was unlike anything I had ever witnessed before. It's like one of those magical childhood moments for me. I don't think I'll ever have the same feeling of pure wonder as I had when playing Mario 64 for the first time.

Pokemon Red/Blue
The Red version was the first Pokemon game I had ever played, and while it may not be my favorite in the franchise, it started it all. I probably only logged around 70 hours into it before my game was erased, which pushed me to give up on it. However, the addiction was rekindled with the released of Pokemon Silver and Gold. I had (and still have the Silver version) with over 400 hours logged in. It's easily one of the greatest and most fun gaming experiences I've ever had. Not just the single-player... but engaging in multiplayer with my friend via Pokemon Stadium 2. Some of the most memorable battles I've had in a game. Period. In fact, me and him still talk about some of those matches of the past. It's just another one of those things I don't think I'll ever forget.

So while I can't agree with some of Old Wizard's choices, I understand that not everyone has the same personal experiences with a given game.

I mean games like resident evil 4 started something if it wasn't 4 that game we wouldn't have had gears of war. Tomb raider started female main characters in video games. While san andreas... well ppl are just hating the game cause their racist, and hate that the main character is black and not some bland white guy with no effort put in2 him, u know like tommy vercetti and the mute from gta 3 (i'm sorry if i offended any1) but why hate the game. People would say they prefer vice city over it... you cant swim, fly planes, change clothes, change appearance, dual wield weapons, customize cars, take up new fighting moves, parachute jump, gamble, have gang members help you, have girlfriends that have the ability to do things like make you keep your weapons if you get arrested, i'm a stop cause its getting too long, but you cant do any of that in vice city or gta 3, and everything is bigger which is why people didn't like gta4.

I don’t much agree with a few of your items on this list, while I can agree that some are overrated, I’d have to say that some of these were some pretty awesome games back in the day when people first started playing them. Most of these games don’t get recognized much at all anymore, disregarding RE4 and GTA:SA. Quite frankly though, I still adore Shining Force II (the music was awesome to that, too), though the game you had in question was the original, I don’t think there was much of a difference anyway ;)
Overall, I give the list a 6/10, hit and misses for me

While I may agree that Shining force 2 and Shining Force CD(still one of many reasons Sega CD was so underrated) were better there is no way shining force is overrated. The series brought rpg's to a new level with it's strategy combat system that is still used today. I am not sure when you actually played it but when it came out it was a hard game but certainly not impossible.

If you want some perspective try playing through Shining in the darkness where you had to chart your own maps of the dungeons just so you could find your way. I had to burn up 1-800-USA-Sega just to get through that game.

Lets get one thing straight I'm not a Nintendo fan and I hate Mario but I will be the first to admit that Mario 64 IS NOT overrated. It was the first game to perfect capture platforming in 3d and thats saying alot.

i wasnt best pleased with him voting sonic 3 either as that was my favourite game as a kid, but ill give him that as what he said was mostly right. not a bad game in itself, but not hugely better than sonic 2. however if he took into account that you could plug it in to sonic and knuckles (which should have been a single game anyway were it not for storage constraints), then that may have been different.

I got 30 percent complete on gta before i got bored. Halo3 i completed but it was lame compare to halo1 and halo2. since i was a halo fan, I guess halo3 would be the most overrated game to me.

i can see the overation of tomb raider and sonic 3 (i'm sorry but they got that part right. the fact that you could play as tails was NOT a major improvement that would keep interest, it should of gone in sonic 2). but mario 64, re4, and pokemon are really biased and false. mario 64 broke the 3d wall with a revolutionary mario platformer, and re4 did that same thing with re without the terrible camera angles the rest of the series had. and pokemon started a gaming phenominon that should've died out years ago but still goes strong in japan and maybe in usa. the rest of the pokemon games are overrated because there not any big improvements. i know that this list contains a few used and abused overrated games, but halo 3, ff7, should be on there. i love those games, but i feel that the creators paid the critics to get the overly high ratings they got. sorry

from a guy who obviously doesn't know what "Overrated" means. Being really good and people really liking it doesn't make it overrated... overrated means being really bad (or mediocre) and people really liking it. Mario 64 was epic for its time and even now I find myself playing it with the same enthusiasm... how can something 10 years old that is still good be overrated?
Also I am just barely Playing RE4 for the first time and so far I must say it is pretty much everything people have told me, at one point being genuinely scared from a zombie... that is saying something.
Pokemon... yeah 7 trillion sales and rave reviews... oh yeah and countless hours of entertainment... oh yeah very overrated.
