I make that... hmmm 7 days? ;)

They better have GameCube titles from the start. I don't want to see the same games we seen on the other virtual consoles without anything new. And they better have a large robust library too, not like 5 games here and add 2-3 games a month. Make all the snes and NES games available right away, and slowly build the n64, gamecube and maybe even wii and gameboy games overtime.

machtkampf3380d ago

I feel like this alone is half of my purchasing decision.

deafdani3380d ago

The problem here is that the Switch's controllers apparently don't have analog triggers. How would you play games like Mario Sunshine, that used them? :/

captainexplosion3380d ago

No idea why people are making such a big deal about GC games. I doubt the Switch is powerful enough to emulate Wii games but what I want is Wii games emulated in HD with the controls patched so you can play in portable mode.

porkChop3380d ago

You can emulate Wii games on pretty much anything these days. You can run the Dolphin emulator on Android phones.

machtkampf3380d ago

Exactly! That alone is proof enough I think with that mobile cpu/gpu

captainexplosion3380d ago (Edited 3380d ago )

Well the Wii U didn't play HD Wii games or update the controls so u could play them with the gamepad & the Switch in portable mode is only about as powerful as a Wii.

porkChop3380d ago

@captainexplosion

Use your head. I don't care what the "experts" say. The Switch's Tegra is customized, so we have no idea exactly how powerful it is.

But we do know that the Switch is *faster* than the Wii U, undocked in portable mode. How do we know this? Because the Switch version runs at 720p/30 when undocked, just like the Wii U, but the Switch does so with a solid frame rate and better graphics than the Wii U version.

How could that be possible if the Switch wasn't faster? Stop listening to the armchair experts, because the truth is they have no idea how fast or how customized the Switch's Tegra is.

captainexplosion3380d ago

@Porkchop
What a hypocritical post. I think I trust Digital Foundry more than you. You forgot to say what game you were even talking about. Is it Zelda? If Zelda has better graphics undocked than the Wii U version that doesn't prove a thing. They are different games on different consoles. There has also been reports that undocked has frame rate drops. But I'm sure you are still holding out hope that the Switch is 4 TFs.

jaymacx3380d ago

I trust my own eyes more than people speculating. If details are coming about VC then good.. i think this conversation is getting sidetracked by can switch run gamecube games?! Let Nintendo show us what is possible. All this anxiety about specs and speculation will cause you to have no peace. Relax and if you are getting Switch enjoy it 😁

It can run Wii U games what are you on about

MetroidFREAK213380d ago

I would really love a portable version of Metroid Prime 1 and 2 😃

jholden32493380d ago

This man is talking sense.

I'm pretty sure we're gonna see GameCube. It's 3 generations prior. Maybe not at launch (hopefully though!) but at some point, definitely.

Pretty sure Nintendo held back releasing on Wii U to have one more selling point for Switch

MetroidFREAK213380d ago

As long as the VC is decent enough, I'll bite. I'm sure GC is inevitable, but we will not know for certain until announced :)

jaymacx3380d ago

Yeah why not Metroid Prime trilogy remastered in HD .. a man can dream. Metroid is actually my favorite Nintendo franchise, zelda (2nd), Mario (3d ones 3rd) and Fire Emblem (fell in love with this series during the GC era)

MetroidFREAK213380d ago (Edited 3380d ago )

While I would love that (the HD update), I feel as though the games still hold up beautifully (the art direction mostly, technically not so much). I still enjoy them regardless of their visual infidelity nowadays. Metroid is my favorite game franchise as a whole and not just Nintendo. I own all 12 games complete in box. 😃

Farewell to the Virtual Console, the boldest part of Nintendo's mid-00s revolution

Nintendo's mid-noughties revolution feels so distant now, even if its impact hasn't really dimmed. The touch sensation of the DS led in its own way to the iOS revolution, the motion controls of the Wii helped reestablish video games in the living room and push them towards the mainstream, and the reverberations of both are felt to this day. There's another facet of its revolution that sadly never had the same impact, and now is set to finally fizzle away.

The Virtual Console vs. Nintendo Switch Online

Streaming services have become really popular in the last decade. Are subscription and streaming services right for Videogames?

Nintendo Switch Online has replaced the Virtual Console but is the service up to the standard of previous Nintendo offerings? Furthermore, do subscription services like Xbox’s Game Pass and NSO really suit video games? This article explores these issues and looks back at the Virtual Console.

I see no reason Nintendo can’t just offer both

FinalFantasyFanatic1189d ago

I really miss the VC, I don't want more subscriptions that I have to, I try to keep as few as possible.

silkylove1188d ago

VC is better imo. I got games like Super Metroid for like 30 cents. If NSO allowed you to play online with anybody then I would give it the edge.

Why Can't Nintendo Offer Both Virtual Console And Switch Online?

While that's valid, though, that old social media meme 'why not both?' springs to mind. Why not have subscription options and a Virtual Console eShop? With NSO being multi-faceted in its offering, it seems unlikely that everyone would drop that subscription in a heartbeat in order to buy Super Mario Bros. for $5.

Because a yearly flow of money is better than people buying specifically what they want. If online was also not behind a paywall you'd be surprised just how many people would drop the sub. When you're only given one option there's not much of a choice.

FallenAngel19841226d ago

No reason not to have both. Consumers would have the option of buying separately like PS+ and Game Pass owners can or have access to it all with a sub

Inverno1226d ago

Of course there's no reason, and Nintendo fans have been very vocal about virtual console being brought back. I think however that those who really have an issue with how Nintendo has handled classic games have stayed with emulation. I know the appeal of being able to buy instead of the free alternative. As I see it, it sends a message that there's still an audience for these games, but for whatever reason it may be it's not been made easy to the consumer.

CrimsonWing691226d ago

I miss the Virtual Console. I really want HAM with it on the Wii.

Chocoburger1226d ago

Just another reason why modding your Switch can fix almost all of the flaws Nintendo purposefully created on their platform. Save file back ups being another reason. Nintendo is the only company that forces you to pay money in order to back up your save files, and it doesn't even work for all games. Talk about anti-consumer B.S.!

ZeekQuattro1226d ago

Because it was only successful on the Wii. Both the Wii U and 3DS VC offerings were no where as successful. It was time to move on from that service. More and more 3rd parties devs started supplying older games in other ways on the Switch so there's no need. Look at all the Capcom collections for instance. Even Konami got in on it. Same with Neo Geo or Atari collections. I could go on and on.
