I really rated this game. Absolutely gutted at the news we're not getting a sequel. I blame Square...

zeal0us3305d ago

Well lets be honest the story was half-assed but decent. You would think they would have learn from bioware mishaps with ME3 surrounding your choices from previous games and making them matter. Your choices from previous doesn't matter. Outside of the story, pre-order fiasco, then you have season pass and then you have extra modes that don't add anything to the overall story/game.

Overall using this strategy was bound to make the game failure when compared to it's previous entries.

frostypants3304d ago

I honestly don't think that stuff was the main factor. The problem was general awareness/lack of hype.

It was released at a bad time and HORRIBLY marketed. I literally had no idea it had been released...I ended up getting it weeks later. I love the game and I'm on my 3rd play through. It's far better than Human Revolution IMO. Less silly boss fights (and they aren't mechanically irritating like in HR), better cityscape, more interesting layouts/approaches, etc.

Square Enix just doesn't know how to properly market this sort of game. Spent more time on stupid pre-order gimmicks than, you know...real marketing.

Fearmonkey3304d ago

Same here, it wasnt amazing, but it was really good and polished and I want a continuation of Adam's story. We really deserved the next game. Square messed up Thief as well, and so they wont make either for a long time now. It's a shame because Deus Ex and Thief would make killer VR enabled games like the new Resident Evil. I imagine the next Deus Ex we get will be years and years out and possibly be a reboot/redo of the original Deus Ex.

QUIMICOMORTAL3303d ago

I liked both games, but if you look how little cooments are even here or in the article, youll find the real reason its people didnt care about the game.

I think it's pretty obvious what went wrong... Square Enix.

Yukes3305d ago

The augment your preorder crap was a disaster for MD. So ill-advised. Gave it a handicap before it had even started.

vickers5003305d ago

At least they listened to consumer outrage and scrapped it. Most pubs/devs doing shady things go through with it no matter what.

sk8ofmnd3305d ago

I loved human revolution too... Never tried md after i heard all the bad reviews. It kind of sucks i let my gaming experiences be dictated by reviewers tastes... Too many games and ive been burnt playing games that didnt review so well.

vickers5003305d ago

Gamefly had it for like 12 bucks pre owned, it's pretty cheap everywhere, go ahead and give it a try. It's not as good as hr (few games are), but it's still pretty good.

frostypants3304d ago (Edited 3304d ago )

Don't believe the negative hype. Half the bad reviews are people salty about the pre-order mess who have never played it, and are just dog piling. It's a damn good game.

gamerpop3305d ago

Not a good game imo. 2016 was a decent year in gaming and Deus Ex wasn't up to standard.

RedPill863305d ago

I'm sure you have a lot of reasons...oh wait. You'll just regurgitate the same crap every other reviewer does. This game had more depth than most RPG'S this generation. This game did nothing wrong. Perfectly good game.

Adrian_v013304d ago

Except the AI was terrible.

TheOptimist3304d ago

This game had more depth than most games this generation. Just because rviewers crapped on it and not on other games which were practically movies like ROTR, U4 and GOW4. Emrgent gameplay is gone now with Deus Ex out of the way. Expect even less in-depth games

frostypants3304d ago

Be honest...you never played it.

kevnb3305d ago

too much content was cut to be sold as dlc.

RedPill863305d ago

Bullshit.

The game has tons in it. You ignoring it doesn't make it not there. Yeah the preorder thing was bad and nobody was alright with it, game had more content than most games. Get off the bandwagon. Give credit where it's due. This is pathetic at best.

BongSmack3304d ago

Not bullshit, this happened. Not the devs fault, but Square Enix chopped up the game right before launch.

TheOptimist3304d ago

Still had much more content than most games of 2016.

Maybe he should have stayed in the movie business,.. or change the script writer,.. Haven't finished Shadow yet,.. but damn is this game's story and premise retarded on so many levels,..

Darkwatchman2394d ago (Edited 2394d ago )

It’s better written than any of the other Tomb Raider games, though

AK912394d ago

But it wasn’t compelling.
