The Nintendo Switch Could be a Huge Failure.

The 10th Rider3403d ago

Well, it really can't be worse than the Wii U . . . Even with moderate success, the Japanese sales of the Switch could surpass the worldwide sales of the Switch.

joab7773403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

All they have to do is drop the price at some point and it will sell a ton! As the WiiU would have if it were $199 and had Zelda and Mario coming out!

bouzebbal3403d ago

second part of your sentence makes no sense.
of course it can be worse than wii u, and it looks that way on paper already.

_-EDMIX-_3403d ago

Except none of us really know that for certain.

What Nintendo has just revealed about their plans for the 3DS and even the possibility of another dedicated handheld actually sound like they're not even planning to support this 100% in regards to Software.

If they split development again on this platform I fear it's going to be exactly like the Wii U.

The 10th Rider3403d ago

@bouzebbal,

Makes perfect sense. There's actually a lot of people excited for Switch in Japan and it's got lots of Japanese support. It's also portable. If it sells even half as much as a handheld does in Japan, it will likely surpass the Wii U's worldwide sales.

Eonjay3403d ago

There is this huge mobilized anti Nintendo force. I don't get it. It has nothing to do with N4G and PS4. There is something use at work here I can't quite see yet. But I can't wait for the Switch to blow everyone else away because this hate shit is getting old.

jmc88883403d ago

It's Nintendo making decisions that are baffling, that keep most people from buying their products.

People aren't anti-Nintendo. They are anti-idiotic Nintendo decisions.

People either want Nintendo hardware WORTH buying, or Nintendo becoming 3rd party.

Switch is just another example of them not getting it.

People want to play Nintendo, they just can't buy into the hardware Nintendo is selling in order to play Nintendo software.

Their hardware screws their software.

Everyone has their opinions about anything and everything. Clearly we are talking about Nintendo, they will make anything work and normally its nice to see a company trying to be different instead of just steamrolling the usual that we all come to expect. How is fun to keep doing the same thing over and over. I respect what Nintendo are doing.

rivaldoo7773403d ago

Yeah you are dead right however the pricing policy and the short battery life is unforgivable.

porkChop3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

The battery life isn't any different from other portables. 3DS and Vita are both officially rated at 3 to 5 hours. The Switch is 2.5 to 6 hours. So please explain where the issue is, and how it's "unforgivable".

DarXyde3403d ago

It's an entire portable device that doubles as a console and standalone handheld unit.

What excuse do the Surface Pro 4 (a device that is strictly portable and meant for far more important things than strictly gaming) and DualShock 4 (a controller) have?

The 10th Rider3403d ago

The battery life is comparable to any other similar device under heavy load. My 2016 laptop with an upgraded battery manages about 2 hours of Civ VI with screen brightness down all the way, all other programs closed, and power saver mode turned on.

jaymacx3403d ago

It's called a portable battery pack. I use one on my phone and its the best thing to have. Anker sells some of the best ones with not a huge asking price. These days battery life is a non issue.

As for pricing... that's up to the buyer if its too high or not. If need be a price drop will happen.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3403d ago

Want to know how to solve the battery life problem?

Omnislashver363403d ago

Except different isn't always better. It's weaker than Xbox One which came out four years ago. It's really ridiculous in my opinion and have no interest in a giant handheld.

They should have just done a regular console at $249 in my opinion. They could really wow us with something near XB1's performance with their art style, not to mention a cheaper price.

That's in fact what I'm waiting on from them. So I guess their next console is in the cards for me.

porkChop3403d ago

XBO and PS4 came out 3 years ago, not 4.

Omnislashver363403d ago

@disagrees

Downvote all you want but I'm not buying in with those graphics. The people in Mario Odyssey looked creepy as hell and aliasing looked like a jigsaw puzzle. Art direction was on point otherwise but overall quality was really lackluster. Zelda looks like a PS2 game, and that 8-bit Square-Enix game, seriously? Xenoblade looked good but overall quality was way lower than the competition. If it were Tegra X2 I'd probably buy. That or if it were a normal console.

I'll hold out for the next one.

jmc88883403d ago

It's not different. Not really.

Gameboy came out in 1989.
Plugging a handheld into a tv isn't new. Sony did it.
Updated motion controls, is just that, a better revision. Nothing magical. 0 to 1 was the biggest jump, not 1 to 1.1.

It's just more of the same.

CyberSentinel3403d ago

I need to play Nintendo classic franchises. That is the only reason why I'm buying a switch.

gedden73403d ago

You know they are coming.

jmc88883403d ago

Which is fine, but how big is that market?

10 percent? 20 percent?

Meanwhile Sony and Microsoft make their sales by drawing from a crowd of likely 80-90 percent of gamers.

That's the point. Switch doesn't increase the number. They specifically created a device that still will sell to a niche. The people who buy Nintendo's handhelds and consoles, now can buy one device. People who want Nintendo's console games the 2nd.

After that... there really isn't anyone else to buy it.

Mrveryodd3403d ago

I hope so for those that jump early .... I just cant see it ... There are just far too many portable devices that do so many more things and i got to take a phone everywhere as well as this monster can't do voice chat.. Good luck 🍀

sk8ofmnd3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

Another day, another "the switch could be a huge success" article.

The switch could fail super hard too. The switch has gotten more negative feedback than any nintendo release in history. Its success lies in how well their competitors perform. What games are nintendo only players going to have to skip out on? Answer...

Heres a list of games that arent comming to the nintendo switch in 2017...

Resident evil 7
Nioh*
Horizon zero dawn*
Yakuza*
For honor
Super elite 4
Ghost recon
Star trek
Mass Effect: Andromeda
South Park: Fractured but whole
Persona 5*
Farpoint
Hellblade*
Prey
The last of us 2*
Uncharted: the last odyssey*
Marvel vs Capcom: infinate
Days Gone*
God of War*
Red Dead Redemption 2
Crash Bandicoot
Gran Tarismo: Sport*
Injustice 2
Outlast 2
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Kingdom Hearts 3

Prob 2018

Death Stranding*
Spider man*
Knack 2*
Detroit Become Human*
Vampyre*
Shenmue 3*

Thats a pretty big list and while not all these games are for me (probably half) the ps4 offers 1st and 3rd partys you can not play on the switch for the same price ($299) with a better established brand. Thats a HELL of an incentive for a gamer to choose ps4. Esp during the holiday season.

I-wear-clothes3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

Half of those games are playstation exclusives and e3 hasn't even come yet. Also ps4 has been out for four years so of course they are going to have much more games at this point.
P.s edited my comment because my old one was dumb.

sk8ofmnd3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

They needed to be cheaper than a ps4 console. Esp being underpowered... Would the switch costing 199 or 249 be that hard to achieve? Its the fact they cost the same is what could stop them from being much more successful than a wiiu. And of course i put sony exclusives as i said games that switch gamers only wont play in 2017. And sure theres more games possibly comming at e3 2017 but im willing to bet those games wont launch in 2017 or anywhere soon after.

jmc88883403d ago

E3? What do you expect to hear at E3 from Nintendo?

It's only 3 months after launch of their console. They aren't holding things back. That would be stupid business.

You see, you have to actually think things through. OTHER companies show MORE at E3.... because they didn't showcase everything in Jan/Feb reveals and the consoles didn't come out until November.

For Nintendo, they are struggling to show ANYTHING of Switch. Look at the reveal, they had so little to show us, that a good amount of what they showcased were cut scenes, or title screens, or NOTHING at all where the people came up and said they were making a game. Then they show a 5 1/2 year old game (that will be 6 upon release). That is not a reveal of strength. They were scrambling to find stuff.

E3, which they've toned down in recent years by not even having a presentation like Sony and MS, is only three months after launch. So all we'll see are maybe a few more 2018-2020 game announcements that weren't in production in Jan. We'll see some progress, so instead of just seeing a title screen, maybe that game now gives us a cut scene. Maybe some that showed us cutscenes will have some actual gameplay.

Nintendo didn't hold things back for E3, that would simply be stupid and bad business. Thus don't expect much for E3. They shot their wad in January.

porkChop3403d ago

A list of games that aren't coming to the Switch this year, and most of them are PS exclusives. To make your list even more useless, you include some VR games and a DLC. On top of that, some of the games in your 2017 list aren't even coming out this year or have no release window at all.

And your point about first and third party games not releasing on the Switch? That goes both ways. All consoles have games you can't play anywhere else. So does PC.

And if you seriously think the Switch has gotten more negative feedback than the Wii U did before launch then you're a joke of a troll. How can you even say that with a straight face? The Wii U was ripped to shreds by all but the most diehard Nintendo fans. It never stood a chance.

sk8ofmnd3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

Of course you would say the wiiu had more negativity... Because it failed... The wiiu never tood a chance and neither will the switch. Esp not by basically being a wiiu 2.0 and being the most anticonsumer games company of the 3. Overpriced, underpowered, and more nintendo bs that only speaks to nintendo fans. Im disagreeing with how the switch could be a huge success and give reason for why i think so. My main argument was games! The ps4 has them in spades while nintendo regurgitate the same bs over and over again. Thats not trolling thats the sad truth bud. In my opinion of course...

jaymacx3403d ago

@sk8ofmnd Your argument is only 1 dimensional. when most bought their PS4 during its 1st year did so for the future prospects and it was successful without having the best games (it Sold on mainly a Promise). Now currently they have their best games and many more coming in. Games is a good selling point. But don't forget the beginning when their was hardly anything great worth playing on ps4 and it was a waiting game (same with Xbox One as well). Having a Robust library takes time. Buying a new console is a future investment.

Wii U had a horrible ad campaign (or lack there of), bad name, & confusing concept. Switch has been non stop with great messaging and Ads and shows Nintendo means business and is confident in their product.

_-EDMIX-_3403d ago

???

If you look back at many of the comments many people on here actually believe the wii u was going to do great for a lot of the same reasons they believe the switch is going to do great.

Suddenly when the Wii U inevitably fails now everyone prior to that knew it was going to fail? I'm sorry but I just don't believe that especially considering they were lots of people on this site several years ago that we're literally bragging when it was being sold out as if great things were going to come of it.

I'm sorry but it was not just predestined by the community that that platform was going to fail, it became clear years later when games were just not arriving for the platform

With Nintendo confirming that they have plans to continue supporting the 3DS I believe there is a possibility that the switch is once again going to fail like the Wii U because this company hasn't even changed anything.

For god sakes they are even in talks to create another handheld.

So where does this leave the switch if this company is playing favorites again?

How could it not be like wio u when the same situation that hurt the Wii U is actually looking like it's going to hurt the switch?

Did they find new teams? Did they confirm they are no longer supporting 3DS and shifting all their support 100% of the switch? Unless they've made those statements there actually is Cyril evidence that this company has actually changed their situation this actually is the same situation that inevitably hurt the Wii U.

Overpriced, underpowered, lack of third-party support and even lack of first-party support by Nintendo themselves because they were playing favorites with another platform...

XXanderXX3403d ago

Since when did vampire become exclusive, Hellblade is on PC

sk8ofmnd3403d ago

I said not comming to the switch, right?

jaymacx3403d ago

well um DUH (being silly) Ps4 is killing it right now. But as a gamer I don't have amnesia either. Most launches don't consist of the best games and while Switch may be lacking QUANTITY of titles it is coming out with a instant classic and will have Top Notch games come its 1st year. Sony and Nintendo can co-exist and both can be must have gaming experiences .. its not like I have to choose one or the other. people need to stop letting their inner fanboy try to ruin others joy of other platforms. There can be more than one success in the industry.

sk8ofmnd3403d ago (Edited 3403d ago )

My inner gaming tastes are that of my own... If someone is going to let my opinions bother them with words they shouldnt be comming to n4g in the 1st place. If i agreed with everything nintendo has been doing since the wii launched in 2006 id be high fiving and ass slapping with the rest of the nintendo fanboys... But thats not my view... I believe for every article claiming with an opinion of how the switch could be amazing i can cast my opinion for why i think it wont be. This is the wiiu launch all over again... Claiming third partys and power enough to run them. Remember that long list of devs making games for the switch and how ds3 was running on a switch, yet we get skyrim for $60 a 7 yr old game and ultra street fighter 2 for $40 a 20 year old game. Thats hardly the 3rd party games one would even truly care about. Thats not trolling as the person above stated... Thats me disagreeing with how just maybe the switch could fail hard. If it wasnt overpriced on software and hardware, if it wasnt still chasing casuals, if it still wasnt using gimmicks, and if it being considered a 9th gen console yet being less powerful than the 8th gen, and if it hadnt postponed zelda botw on the wiiu for the simple fact so the switch could have it i would have a whole lot less to be speaking negatively about it. Its the people that ignore all these things are the people i call not a fanboy but a blind fanboy.

Gemmol3403d ago

everyone just go pass this message he comes to every Nintendo article spilling his negative opinion with his assumption that its another Wii U

just do not give him any attention, none of his points are valid, we get it he loves Sony, so hopefully he keep his words on Sony articles on games they have coming out and etc.... he adds nothing to the Switch channel, nothing worth to read

even this post that he put together with games that are coming out is not worth it to read, he basically comparing a system that had a couple years to make games with a system that just coming out, I hope he and others who think this way also use the same response when PS5 come out, saying Nintendo Switch have more games than the PS5 coming out this year, so no need to get a PS5, I think he forgot somewhere over the years us PS4 owners got it on launch on the promise of getting more great games later on, if we all did not adopt the PS4 in the beginning the system would not of been successful as it is right now, so early adopters are important, but like I said everyone just go past his message, nothing worth of importance......they should have a feature to ban certain people so they can just stay on Sony channel......I can understand if they had something worth reading where it was fair meaning anything you say for this system can apply to another system, but nope all we have is double standards.........smh

sk8ofmnd3403d ago

Heres a tip for you...

Not every nintendo fan agrees with everything you said or everything ive said.

My first gaming platform i fell in love with was the nes... Ive spent tens of thousands of hours and $$$ on nintendo... What in f gives you the right to say my views arent valid and yours are... These are all OUR own damn opinions. This is where ppl come to have discussions... Thats the only reason i write on here... If you cant take someone giving your fav piece of plastic constructive criticism you shouldnt be on here... Like wahhhh smh back

nitus103403d ago

You forgot "Gravity Rush 2" (18th January 2017), "Nier Automata" (23rd February 2017) and "Final Fantasy 12" (11th July 2017). Granted that "Nier Automata" will eventually be released for the PC but there is no date for that at the moment.

The PS4 was released 15th November 2013 and the XB1 22nd November 2013 so they have only been out three years and less than three months.

deafdani3402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

Lmao. Sure, let's compare the year 1 lineup of the Switch to the Year 4 lineup of a console that's now hitting its stride.

Now that we've entertained that stupid thought, let's make an actual valid comparison. How does the Switch's first year lineup compares with the PS4's first year lineup?

Oh, yeah... the PS4 hardly had anything exclusive for it on its first year. Almost all of its games were remasters or ports of games also available for PS3 and Xbox 360 and PC.

Same goes for Xbox One.

As someone else said above, it takes time for a console to build up its games library. So I won't fault the Switch for this while giving the other consoles a free pass, that only makes sense in the eyes of rabid trolls like yourself.

More games not coming to Nintendo Switch in 2017 you can add:
Halo Wars 2
Sea of Thieves
Crackdown 3
State of Decay 2
Cuphead
Below
Forza 7
Tacoma
Phantom Dust

Interview: Patricia Summersett on voicing Princess Zelda for nearly a decade

Believe it not, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is almost ten years old. It was a massive game for many reasons – it launched alongside Nintendo Switch, was a new take for the series by going fully open-world, and introduced various aspects like voice acting in a mainline game for the characters.
