External HDD Support for PS4 confirmed!!!! up to 8TB!!!! games/applications and all.. the whole shebang!

Crazyglues3316d ago (Edited 3316d ago )

Just Wow, I'm speechless.... :) /and finally custom wallpapers.... OMG! too excited right now..

Kingthrash3603316d ago (Edited 3316d ago )

Well that is just awsome! Took a while but finally they added it. What's boost mode though (for the pro)

Edit: just saw genuine-user post.....dammmmm that's just killer. They pull that off and it's a pretty big thing to have all your games boosted...man time to replay tons of games. If some hit 60fps that would be huge for me. I could care less for 4k...but boosted frame rate is where it's at!

External hdd supprt.... YES!!!!!

MVGeneral3316d ago (Edited 3316d ago )

Sony is really taking 2017 by storm.

Ashlen3316d ago (Edited 3316d ago )

Cool, great update, in fact all the big updates have featured things that were requested, Sony has been listening.

External hard drives is excellent. And the quick menu has been one of my favorite features so far. And the Pro Speed Boost is fantastic.

starchild3316d ago

Sony is really firing on all cylinders. I'm truly impressed. This update is one of the best ever. Nah, scratch that. If it has the boost mode (has that been confirmed?) it is for sure the best PS4 update ever.

morganfell3316d ago

I got my invite for the beta today. DL the software on PSN by redeeming the code they send via email. Booted up perfectly. You do have to re-pair your controllers the first time and after that Boom. The Boost Mode is under the System Settings. Just check the box and that's it. There is a caption that says to disable it if you notice any unusual behavior in games. But everything so far works great.

sackboyhappy3315d ago

Soon we'll have all the features back from the PS3, slowly but surely, one by one, ha
it's puzzling why they took away so many features that we had on the PS3 in the first place

PS4 Pro boost mode:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

I hope this is real.

UCForce3316d ago

Wow ! That's a freaking amazing.

thekhurg3316d ago

Me too. I was under the impression that many games are programmed for 30fps though. Like it's hard coded in. I wonder how this boost mode will impact those games.

ninsigma3316d ago

Oooohhhh that would be cool!

Fishy Fingers3316d ago

Some maybe locked to 30/60fps but we've heard that about PC games before, yet some dude at home manages to crack and unlock within hours of release.

Pretty sure it wouldn't pose a massive problem that Sonys dev team couldnt overcome.

TitanUp3316d ago (Edited 3316d ago )

This will probably have games running at their intended frame rate should make most games stable.

If a game is hitting 26 instead of 30 or 55 instead of 60 probably the best people can hope for.

butchertroll3316d ago

Curious to see Just Cause 3. That game is a mess on PS4/Xbone. How this game will run with Boost mode. We'll see

ONESHOTV23316d ago

Genuine-User---what's the point in that feature if i cant play my old PS3 exclusives at a higher frame and better res ? if i wanted to play recent games at a higher frames with maxed setting then i would go to my PC for that. if only sony could just give us a chance to play those older games then i wouldnt be complaining about the system so much and before anyone start being a smart ass with oh i didnt buy a console to play old games, then that's good for you becuase i'm not stupid enough to say that games come with expiration dates and they shouldn't be played because they are old. then those same people would say oh yes PS NOW is a good plan or buying remasters when most of us already own the games, so why not let us play them for free.

DogJosha3316d ago

@thekhurg

Look at Bloodborne as an example. It may possibly be limited to 30 fps, but it is often running as low as 15 fps. When the Pro was announced, I was excited thinking that games like BB will finally be playable without these huge fps drops. Other games have this problem too. Allowing the Pro to beef up fps in older games is definitely the right move, and should have been done since the beginning.

G20WLY3316d ago

^@ONESHOTV2, are you done arguing with yourself? Lmao, get help NOW!

yippiechicken3316d ago

Just keeps getting better and better.

Vystrel3316d ago (Edited 3316d ago )

My biggest complaint of my PS4 Pro was seeing zero difference in non-pro enhanced games. I hope this means 60fps GTA V! Or at least completely solid 30fps.

starchild3316d ago

Yeah, I saw this in another article here. If it's real it will vastly increase the value of the Pro. Being able to hit a consistent 30fps or 60fps in all or nearly all previously released games will be incredible.

GoodnessGreatness3316d ago

Thank goodness I bought a PS4 Pro

IamTylerDurden13315d ago

Butchertroll

Someone already confirmed that JC3 runs better.

I do preferer internal hdd, but it is a nice feature

RosweeSon3316d ago

100% internal all the way, these companies do everything they can to make small consoles and then release smaller versions of existing consoles that people lap up and then are happy with an external drive however small you want to imagine it dangling stacked on the console more cables... no thanks either bump up the standard hard drives or as it's so ridiculously easy just swap the drives over did mine when I got it 2TB sorted... still bit squeezed for space tho ;)

The_KELRaTH3316d ago

For the Xbox the main advantage comes if you wanted to upgrade your console as you dont need to create a backup etc. , just unplug ext drive and plug into new console and continue as normal.
Ive got a 2tb drive internal half filled in PS4 and it would be a pain to switch to PS4 Pro but if the ext works like Xbox it will be less time consuming. ie. take 2tb out and put it back into ext case and plug into
PS4 pro or copy to a new ext hd and plug that into PS4 Pro.

ZeroX98763316d ago

Already got my 4 TB ready :)

ZaWarudo3316d ago

NIIIIICE! i was too lazy to pop open the PS4 and do all the shenanigans with downloading updates on a separate usb blah blah.

DaMist3316d ago

Hell Yes! I've been asking for this for what feels like such a long time now, I'm excited.

RosweeSon3316d ago

Woohoo that'll shut a few people up who can't use a screwdriver.

MRMagoo1233316d ago

so it's adding pretty much everything anyone ever asked for in the one patch, yet unfortunately there will still be people that complain, I'm getting a ps4 pro in about 12 days I'm looking forward to all this new stuff 😊

MatrixxGT3316d ago

And I'm sitting over here like...custom wallpapers! Finally!

bangoskank3316d ago

Awesome! Way to go Sony! That's how you make your user base happy.

Muzikguy3315d ago

Wow this will be one of the better updates so far! (IMO) I can't wait to finally be able to change my wallpaper to something more personal and download all my games to keep on the hard drive instead of constantly deleting. Come to think of it, I new a bigger external. I'd better go get one
