Graphics Improvements on Xbox Scorpio Depend On how Developers Allocate Resources- Developer

Arguably the biggest selling point for the Xbox Scorpio so far is its monstrous GPU, which, at 6TFLOPs of computational power, makes the Scorpio the most powerful console ever made. However, just hard numbers aren't going to be enough her. According to Ikrima Elhassan of Kite & Lightning, the developers of the upcoming VR game Bebylon Battle Royale, how many graphical improvements the Scorpio truly exhibits will depend on just how developers allocate resources.

Anyone notice that we don't talk about games on Xbox anymore? Just power.

aconnellan3429d ago

Not news worthy - how long have we known this for now?

Sciurus_vulgaris3429d ago

Well the article comes from a site that spent years writing about 1080p, 60 FPS, eSRAM, and graphics analysis. Without having any good apparent understanding of console technology, graphics or game development.

It is news worthy. Just go to this link and see all the re**rds who should read this article

ninsigma3429d ago

That got me. Brilliant 😂

TheCommentator3429d ago

Apparently not. Otherwise there wouldn't be arguments about Scorpio being a true native 4k system.

game4funz3429d ago

Well I'm pretty sure any machine nowadays can output tetris at 4k....by way of saying every machine is 4k capable. Even if it is down scaled to fit the screen.

Neonridr3429d ago

wow.. isn't this exactly the same thing that goes for the PS4 Pro? Either opt for higher resolutions and sacrifice effects / framerate. Or go for lower resolutions, but crank up the extra details / effects..

ApocalypseShadow3429d ago

It's the same. But truth is not something some gamers want to hear.

Some games are going to be 4K native at 30/60 fps, some are going to be 1080p, but high detail. Some will upscale their resolution, some VR games are going to look great and some are going to look cartoony.

Not much difference except the fact that Scorpio will do more detail and more 4K games potentially more often over PS4 Pro.

It's just coming late to the party. Like 18 months late.

Neonridr3429d ago

yeah, don't get me wrong, I realize that Scorpio should have some more headroom available. But it's not like this isn't something that isn't commonplace in the design world for videogames. Devs build with what they have available to them. If they have more power to work with they can utilize it where they see fit.

MattE3429d ago

We'll look at it this way, if the PS4 Pro is hitting 1800p checkerboarding then XB Scorpio will hit 4k.. it's pretty obvious not all Devs will use the power for resolution.. goes without saying

@Apocalypse Shadow
"It's just coming late to the party. Like 18 months late."

maybe by then there will actually be some decent amount of software for vr and developers will have more experience with it. i do imagine more than just a few games will be making good use of the extra power of scorpio unlike the ps4 pro which had very few games ready,

Aenea3429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

12 months late, they are supposed to release a year after the Pro

Indeed not much difference, it's what I've been trying to tell people since it's announcement, a few more native 4k games, rest of the games with slightly more detail, rendering in a slightly higher resolution, checkerboard rendering in a higher resolution, etc., etc. But nothing really mindblowingly different.

And yes, 1.8Tf difference is a nice power difference for 1080p, but for outputting at 4k many forget that it needs 4 times more pixels to be pushed and that thus a relative power difference is what matters and that the visual differences will be as great as between X1 and PS4 now just flipped...

@MattE

Yes, if the Pro is hitting 1800p with checkerboard rendering (and then upscaling to 2160p), then the Scorpio might be able to hit 2160p with checkerboard/sparse rendering. Not native tho, I hope that is not what you meant!

FYI, 1800p checkerboard rendering means it's basically rendering half the pixels of 1800p, to get from that to native 2160p a device needs to render 2.88 times the number of pixels which means the machine needs to do 4.2 x 2.88 = 12.096Tflops to be capable of that.........

When it checkerboard renders at 2160p, it only needs half that which is indeed around 6Tf....

Its the same for every console in existence. Dumb article.

stuna13429d ago (Edited 3429d ago )

Just another way of saying when games fall short in certain areas... Well it was left up to the developers on how they chose to use resources! This will also apply to Microsoft's own studio's.

Ok my bad, every game on Scorpio is going to run at 4K 60fps native to those who disagree! It's either one or the other. The second a game releases that is not able to accomplish that task, what is the likely response you will hear!?

TankCrossing3429d ago

You are getting disagrees because the dev is clearly not saying "it can do everything, blame the devs!" as you claim.

Honestly, it is rare to meet someone with a head that even Gamingbolt headlines fly over.
