The moment Resident Evil 4 Introduced action game play the series went downhill. But with the release Resident Evil 7 It's going back to It's survival horror roots.

Resident Evil 4 was fantastic. The boss fights,gameplay,level design and even the graphics are still memorable. 5 was the turning point for the series however. The co-op addition was better suited for a spinoff like Resident Evil Outbreak.

Resident evil was a classic for its time. Before resident evil afraid of the dark was the go to horror game with its creepy mansion setting. Resident evil took that idea and amped it up for a new generation. But honestly from the puzzles, and the whole zombie thing it got old by resident evil 2.
Even the remake though good revealed much of the flaws in the game. It was boring for the most part.

In comes resident evil 3 to keep us too on edge from the nemesis to keep things from getting boring.
But those dam stupid puzzles, and backtracking were still a problem.....and of course more zombies yawn.

Resident evil 4 was special in that it introduced qte at various points and zombies were no longer shambling idiots. Real threats elevated the tension. Although the qte made many fans despise mechanic, it did make boss fights interesting. It was a fast action packed resident evil that still kept the creep factor intact.

Resident evil 5,6 seemed more like a test of ideas that many just didn't like. Those ideas culminated in resident evil revelations although with much less action. Branching storylines hurt this franchise along with a convoluted story. I don't even count the other resident evils as I consider those to also be capcom kicking around other ideas to keep the franchise fresh.

But here now is the crowning achievement of all resident evils. Number 7. As you play through this game you will see bits and pieces of every resident evil that came before. All the good parts that made them special. With the added benefit of VR.

Resident evil 4 had the right idea at a time that the series was getting stale. But now resident evil 7 has done the same.

What do people mean Resident Evil 4 wasn't about horror? it's has more horror than resident evil 5,6 and 7 combined.

RE games to me has never been about horror. They were about tense atmosphere because I was never scared even when I played them even when I was a kid. RE4 to me had a fantastic atmosphere and not only is the best RE game for me but is also one of the best games I have ever played.

I've never been on the bandwagon for Resident Evil 4. Great action game, but never got the feel of Resident Evil once I got passed the forest village area in the beginning of the game. Everything just got silly after that. I never really understood why that game got so much love, when RE5 and 6, which were both crap, are basically evolved versions of RE4.

Honestly it got out of the horror genre and it made the series into a Survival Horror/Action series. Resident Evil 7 on the other hand took the series into a whole new level while going back to its roots!
