Is Final Fantasy 7 Remake a bad idea?

With Final Fantasy XV finally being released after being in development hell NoHints.com starts to wonder. Is Final Fantasy VII remake going to be good?

FallenAngel19843414d ago

People have been wanting a FFVII remake ever since they saw the tech demo on PS3 in 2005. Square Enix were going to get hounded until they produced such a project.

though i also wanted very badly a FF7 remake ...after i saw the demo i agree that shouldnt have started the whole thing at all....Square is missing a lot of talented people that made FF7 great and i doubt that the current team of 3 original devs would manage to remake it properly ......the demo and the trailer were underwhelming like a copy paste of kingdom hearts

I can't wait for FF7r. Its been a good decade since my last playthrough, and i have been holding off playing since this was announced.

But what im most excited about is the potential remakes for FFVIII/FFIX. Just imagine seeing Balamb Garden, Galbadia Garden, Galbadia, Esthar, and etc using completely real-time rendered assets Kreygasm.

Fist4achin3413d ago

I just hope it is a good remake. I doubt Square would drop the ball on the most beloved entry in their biggest series...

The game is releasing in instalments. When will the first instalment be out? When will all the instalments be completed? Will it go on to the next gen? Quite a few questions remain.

Definitely not a bad idea at all though. I can't wait to get my hands on it

Well given the fact that the game was announced in 2015, I dont think we will see the first installment of the game until 2018 (thats if we're lucky). Im confident that the game will stay with the current gen because so far we havent heard anything from Sony or Microsoft regarding the next gen consoles.

But to answer the article's question, No. Its not a bad idea to remake FFVII. EVER!

I'm fine with the remake right now. Even excited to see what they do with it.

Right now, people like kalkano will go and say how SE done f**ked it up, but me, I prefer to wait and see what SE has to offer when the game grows closer to release.

I'm not setting expectations, nor am I going to hold SE to some unreasonable standard.

People asked for a remake. SE decided to remake it in a way they wanted to do it. Hopefully, those that wanted the remake will enjoy it and keep an open mind.

Sadlly though, there is simply no way to please all the people all the time, and there will be those that don't like it. But if the majority do, then it's about as best they can do.

Yes in terms of them trying to make it more Action and not stay true to is original which all it needed was upgraded visuals and refined it.

kayoss3413d ago

If they make it similar to FFXV fighting mechanics, then i think it may be do-able. However, FFVII uses a lot of magic spells and a Materia system. Not sure how that will work with this mechanic.

I think it can work very well if they can implement the optional wait system like they did in FFXV. I actually really enjoyed that because it gave you plenty of time to come up with a strategy for every fight.

Imo i want it badly but it not being true turn based is troubling.

I’d love to know how many units have been sold of all the Final Fantasy VII franchise games, including the original, the remakes, spin offs such as Crisis Core, and mobile games Ever Crisis. I bet a fair few copies.

Modern day publisher be like: "Failed to meet sales expectations. Pivoting to live service."

It's an absolute legend of a game. And I honestly really love how the remake trilogy is shaping up so far.

If you already own it... There, I saved you the click on a deliberately misleading article.

DivineHand125120d ago

I bought the game yesterday on steam for $4 because Square Enix is trying to replace it with a version that has no mod support.

Prior to yesterday, I had no idea the game had so many great mods until people started making a fuss out of it.

Knightofelemia120d ago

I wish Square would port other old games to newer systems I want Xenogears.

gold_drake119d ago

You can thank FF7 scaring Baldur's Gate 2's director 'S***less' for every RPG since

But BG2 didn't emerge in a vacuum, and in a recent chat with Slandered Gaming it emerged that—while we can thank BG2 for a lot of our favourite RPGs since—we have a whole other game to thank for BG2. That'd be Final Fantasy 7, which lit a fire under BG2 director James Ohlen to go all out with the game's structure and companions, per Trent Oster—who worked on the original Baldur's Gate and has since become CEO of Beamdog, the studio behind the BG1 and BG2 Enhanced Editions.
