Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.
Its a hybrid. But you can use it entirely as a handheld if you want, therefore you could argue that it is just a handheld that cconnects to a TV. It certainly meets the criteria of being a handheld, just one that docks.

Yes it matters. If people buy the BS that this is home console gaming that you can also take with you on the go its going to sell a hell of a lot better than if people see it for what it really is, an overpriced portable that can plug into your tv like a bunch of handhelds before it.

It's both, with the home side being first and foremost due to the games it plays, the capability being higher when docked, the fact that it's replacing Wii U while 3DS is still getting support, and Nintendo's own treatment of it through advertisement.
And I'm fine with that, because it'll suit my lifestyle. When I go out mall trips, it'll come with me, but most of its time will be spent in the dock, where its best capabilities are drawn out.
