Is Resident Evil 7 a True Resident Evil Game?

Resident Evil 7 is almost here, however Twinfinite felt it was time to address the controversy surrounding this horror title. Is this a true Resident Evil game or not?

More like a new IP or spin off.

If Uncharted went first person or Dishonored went third person then they'd be new things aswell.

I'd really like to see what they had planned with Resident Evil 6.5

PhoenixUp3404d ago

So are you going to say that titles such as Fallout 3, Metroid Prime, Grand Theft Auto 3 & Resident Evil 4 aren't true mainline installments in their respective franchises merely because they changed the perspectives from previous installments?

bouzebbal3402d ago

the next god of war is a spin off as well, you didn't know that?

Genuine-User3402d ago

Just like Resi 4, 5 and 6 changed to a completely free camera from the fixed camera of 0, 1, 2, 3 and Code veronica.

Imalwaysright3402d ago (Edited 3402d ago )

Fallout 3 is a completely different genre compared to the 1st 2 games. Fallout 1 and 2 are turned based games while Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 are full on FPS games.

Resident Evil isn't the perspective. Resident Evil is solving puzzles, Shooting enemies, Inventory management, Item boxes, Healing items, collecting items, collecting weapons, bosses, running, dialogue, story and cringey jokes as a bonus.
All of those are in RE7 as far as I know. Not sure about the jokes though.

And like what @PhoenixUp said, lots of franchises have changed perspectives before. It's nothing new.

TXIDarkAvenger3403d ago

Maybe not intentional jokes but there are some lines you just have to laugh at.

Summons753402d ago

You clearly should play it because it's VERY much Resident Evil with more horror to boot.

UCForce3402d ago

Remember Resident Evil 4, it changed from fixed camera to third person, but it still RE. Same thing with RE 7, it's still feel Resident Evil with much more horror. I still can't believe why you ignored 4 which was one of the most popular game.

PaleMoonDeath3402d ago

Same could be said about 4, this had more in comon with the original three than 4, 5 & 6, literally just finished Resi 7, it was a slow, cruel, fear fueled journey, like the original 3. Cant please everyone, but the old school folks like myself are very pleased.

_-EDMIX-_3402d ago

I'm so happy to hear that because I'm so bogged down with work I haven't been able to start a game yet.

Nicaragua3402d ago

Yeah, like when you change the camera in Metal Gear then it becomes a whole new spin off....derp

SnotyTheRocket3402d ago

Every single article dude. Also, you keep using examples of games that literally cannot change perspective, and have it be the same experience, Battlefield could probably do it, cod could do it, deus ex could do it. They'd still be almost the same experience, but with a perspective shift.

If you have played Resi 7, you obviously know its a yes. Almost feel like this should have been Resi 4, loved every moment of it, wreaks of Resi 1 and Resi 3.

IT felt like a new Clock Tower / Haunting Ground sequel the whole time from start to finish .

I don't get the zombie vibe so I'm out. Doesn't look fun. Looks gross and too serious.

trooper_3402d ago

RE wasn't just about zombies.

UCForce3402d ago

Yeah, it was also about mutations and umbrella companies.

This I would welcomed, haven’t replayed any of the older games since released years ago. VR would definitely get me to replay them all again. Make it happen Capcom.

Psvr2 version of Re7 and Re2Remake would be fire.

Tacoboto898d ago

Capcom porting anything to SteamVR would be fire.

Petebloodyonion898d ago

You can already play RE 2-3-7-8 on PC via VR mods (Praydog) they offer hand-tracking movement (like PSVR2 Village) and full VR cutscenes.
THE RE7 mod is better compared to the old PSVR version due to hand tracking.

Modding != Official Support

Petebloodyonion898d ago

"Modding != Official Support"
And?
You can still play it in VR and worse it shows that this is far from a complicated feat requiring a full studio with tons of money since it's been done by 1 guy working on this mod from time to time.
So basically this could have been done by Capom a long time ago.

And again You should try (it's pretty easy to install) for Res7 for It's improved even on the PSVR version of the game.

Vanfernal898d ago

Spencer Mansion in VR would be AMAZING. That is my favorite video game setting of all time.
