I don't think so. Gaming will rely mostly on conventional controls

Summons753415d ago

And if the rumble HD work as well as they suggest then it can IMPROVE conventional controls and immersion, but heaven forbid we try to improve gaming and take chances. The pro-controller is "conventional" as well as the normal way to use the joycons, both have hd rumble.

yomfweeee3414d ago

Please tell me how HD Rumble is going to revolutionize anything?

PhoenixUp3415d ago

Except this article specifically said Joy-Cons, not the HD Rumble feature that is also present in the Pro Controller. I really doubt those expensive controllers are going to have a big impact.

Let's not forget how the cheaper Wiimote and Nunchuk were also supposed to "revolutionize" gaming yet here we are 11 years later still utilizing largely the same conventional controls that we've been using before the Wii released.

"When Sony debuted a prototype of Move at last year's E3, many gamers dismissed it as an attempt to cash in on Nintendo's success in motion-based gaming. However, the developement of Move goes back much further than people realize. Sony began experimenting with tracking colored spheres as early as 2001, before the release of the original Eye Toy for the PS2. The earliest prototype was simply a ball on a stick, but Sony couldn't solve other color recognition problems created by inconsistent lighting. Around 2004/2005 the company began experimenting with glowing spheres, but were limited to one color - if a player's lights or walls used a similar shade, the camera still couldn't detect it. Three years ago, the LEDs used in Move became cheaper, allowing for a device that can change colors on the fly and accomodate all different lighting situations. Although Move features many similar abilities to the Wii remote, many of the parts - such as a six-axis sensors and rumble components - were taken directly from the DualShock" (Game Informer, Issue 209 Page 69).

So you should not forget to do some research before you start throwing inccorect accusations.

PS Move sold over 20 million units. That isn't unsuccessful by any stretch of the imagination. In fact when Move and Kinect released in late 2010, Wii sales dramatically declined in 2011 going forward. That's what I'd call a success, as both devices contributed to popping Wii's bubble, except Move is more relevant these days thanks to its tech being built into the DualShock 4 and being incorporated into PSVR.

Also, "whatcNintendo started?" Sony had already been developing what would end up the as the Eyetoy and subsequently Move since 1999 when it was conceived by Richard Marks, 2 whole years before Wii was conceived.

What did Wii revolutionize really? We already experienced motion sensing on consoles the generation prior via the Eyetoy. Not to mention that both the PS3 and 360 contributed more to many of the aspects of in modern gaming that we take for granted today. The Wii's only biggest lasting impact was Virtual Console.

Anywho my point being is that the majority of gamers still primarily use conventional controls, which is reflected by the majority of games still utilizing conventional controls.

Super Wii-motes for the Wii-DS!

Sorry, couldn't help it. Lmao

Traditional controls will remain the most popular. I'm looking forward to what unique experience the Joy-Con will bring, in particular, how the "HD" rumble improves the experience. It's really impressive, from what I've heard.

I'm expecting these controls to be a pleasant alternative way to play traditional console games sat on the sofa with arms relaxed outward (not have to have hands and arms close together focused on a single pad). It's so cool that the Switch affords so many different play styles depending on how you have it setup.

I'm not so willing to buy into Nintendo hyperbole

Let's not forget that Eiji Aonuma, producer of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, said in 2013 that the title would use the Gamepad to its fullest extent

http://nintendotoday.com/ze...

Only to later admit 3 year later that the Gamepad actually proved to be a very disruptive experience throughout the development process of the the title.

https://mynintendonews.com/...

Even Nintendo executives sometimes can't even deal with the BS hyperbole of their own company.

lellkay3415d ago

I don't buy that the Joy-Cons can offer anything constructive to gaming what so ever.

@Fleece,

So because i work for a gaming site, and submit only a portion of the articles, you 1000% know which way i'll lean?

Well if that shows credibilty, i guess you have non as you ahvent submitted a single thing on this site.
and yes, i do support Sony as they are my prefered console, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying other console's games, or criticizing Issues i have with Sony or any company. As for your pointless remark about achievements and avatars, as far as i know, those were MS that started those, and the others to follow.

the motion controllers were one of the reasons Sony began working on VR. they took their their HMZ-T3W Head Mounted 3D Viewer and litterly duct taped the motion controls to the sides of it. thast how their first prototype for head tracking was created, more than 10 years ago, (before oculus i might add)

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing26d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit26d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing26d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9226d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
