Nintendo's Switch Already Stinks of a Rushed Console

The console and, more importantly, developers don't seem ready.

I wouldn't say rushed but it does seem like some aspects weren't thought through properly.

sinjonezp3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

It just "stinks" of gimmick. That's my position. In the press release they are selling the system as one that can perform like all the ideas they have into one box. It has Wii and wiiU aspects while being mobile like the 3DS. To me with all of that the message is still confusing. Reggie is saying it's a home console first. Of course selling the new Zelda which I think is amazing ..and Well...okay, then we have games like arms and 1-2 Switch with are like Wii titles. It's like, do I want a mobile device that's larger than my phone to take on the go, or play at home? When I see these videos do you think a bunch of the fellas will stop playing basketball in a park to all grab joy cons (which are super expensive) to play 4 player locally at the park?(example based on commercial) It's just so many different objectives they are trying to sell. I LOVE NINTENDO AND GREW UP ON IT and ....i just wanted a new powerful home console and that's it. Just make a console that devs could cross develop for and creat awe inspiring first party titles. It could have been so simple.

Thats the thing though nintendo innovates and i agree sometimes its not what we want but in an industry where sony and ms dont and focus on power alone, i think nintendo should be complimented in that regard.

Now i do think and agree with the message that nintendo is sending is confusing and makes no sense to me. I mean the switch is both a portable console but they said that the 3ds will not conflict this and i just dont see how. The 3ds is 200 plus and the switch is 300 but it has console and portable functionality so the extra 100 seems worth it over a 3ds. The console was definitely rushed to the market and it shows with the launch and ports, 3rd party is still not there and wont be cause of the power issue. Nintendo has made a under powered next gen console but one with great features and functionality but the problem will be as always software support and power.

I am getting a switch but i think it will fail, cause there will be no 3rd party support as usual.

@prince ali

If I annoy you then don't respond to me, keep it simple. I am not a die hard Nintendo fan and I haven't been since snes so I don't let Nintendo get away with anything. I Am not giving a pass on anything .

DARKKENT3418d ago

Id say it stinks of a company so out of touch with gamers that its only defenders will be their hardcore audience ...and that audience couldnt save the wii u so.....

@Gaming4Life1981
Do you really think Nintendo innovatives but sony and Microsoft doesn't??? Imagine console gaming with only Nintendo. You'd certainly appreciate where sony and Microsoft brought gaming today then.

"Thats the thing though nintendo innovates and i agree sometimes its not what we want but in an industry where sony and ms dont and focus on power alone, i think nintendo should be complimented in that regard."

Microsoft had online features in 2001 that the Switch doesn't have in 2017. Sony and Microsoft DO innovate. But they innovate with console features and online functionality, stuff that doesn't change gameplay control methods as much per say, but makes stuff more user friendly and adds more and more features to the console eco system over time. Nintendo are so out of touch that what they are offering with their online in 2017, can't even achieve stuff that Xbox OG was doing 15 years ago.... Yes such "innovation" from Nintendo.

Nintendo try and innovate by chucking stupid expensive controller gimmicks at the wall and hoping they stick. And because of that, have to gimp everything else about their system. Leaving them far behind the competition in every way that matters to the modern gamer.

Is a mobile phone a gimmick? How about a music player that holds thousands of songs that you can take anywhere? So what makes a mobile console any diffrent?

They rushed the release in order to end the Wii u's tenure early. Games like Mario, Splatoon 2, and Xenoblade should've been launch titles. As it stands now it's Zelda and a couple old Ubisoft ports.

Yeah but by the Summer Switch will have a better library ... Sometimes we need to think about why it didn't launch with tons of games. Most early preorders will sell out on Zelda alone.. then MK8, Arms, Splatoon 2 carry that momentum. Come holiday time Switch will have a decent library with at least 2 GOTY contenders. Plus we still have E3 come summer to see announcements for some things we don't know as of today. Its easy to play armchair quarterback and say well this will happen or that but the truth is we don't know.

If i like Arms thats my thing . No one said you have to like it. I will continue to put it on my list because it's something im looking forward to. People have different tastes.

PhoenixUp3420d ago

How long has NS been in development? Did account for Wii U not meeting expectations during Switch's creation, resulting in it coming out sooner than expected?

It's clear that they're sticking to the March launch month just so they can look good in front of the investors and stockholders after Wii U had a disappointing 2016 holiday season.

sinjonezp3418d ago

I don't think it was wise to release early in the year. Two months n a week after Christmas (beginning of march). They will have to bring it with fresh titles to stay relevant. It should have been more powerful. Bottom line it's 2017. Zelda looks amazing for what it is but looking at multiplats and other first party offerings it doesn't look much different from the wiiU warranting the question is it worth it? Maybe to Nintendo fans who did not buy the wiiU but wiiU owners? Not so much.

sk8ofmnd3418d ago

I think we first started hearing about the nx with rumors around fall 2014. Only 2 years after the wiiu launched. To be the next big hit from nintendo and only sell like 6 million in the first two years was a huge disappointment. At that point, nintendo knew it was not going to be the hit the wii was before. I wonder if sales suck on the switch if it will follow the same fate and be what regie called a "neccesary failure." im sure to fans like myself i would have never invested in a wiiu if i knew that.

DigitalRaptor3419d ago (Edited 3419d ago )

I think the concept of the Switch is what they actually wanted out of the Wii U, which was rushed out rather than the upcoming one. Their development resources were diverted into making Wii U games while the R&D team carried on with making the Switch into what it now is. But it now doesn't have enough games at launch because Nintendo first-party were focused on Wii U development rather than Switch. That's my theory, anyway.

jaymacx3418d ago

Interesting. Well the new president never liked the wii u as a final product so their may be some truth to what your saying. Truth is they have some great games lined up so far for this year that really blows Wii U (their launch year) out of the water . Wii u had nothing great until pikmin 3.. this system is starting with Zelda and getting a full 3d Mario that brings back that Mario 64 feel.

Slowbro3418d ago

it seems its more or less of a wii u mid console re-release with light updates

Aenea3418d ago (Edited 3418d ago )

But with totally new hardware...

-----
WTF is it lately with n4g disagrees when you state facts!?

The hardware is different and not compatible with the Wii U so to call it a mid-gen re-release is silly!

deafdani3418d ago

People are in full Switch-hating mode right now around here.

Anything you try to say in defense of the system, no matter how logical it is, will get rained down with disagrees.

deafdani3418d ago

...except this isn't a Wii U at all.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing29d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit29d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing29d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9229d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
