In a somewhat ironic reveal, Nintendo says you won’t have to flail your arms to beat up opponents in their new boxing game.

Nice option for those who prefer traditional controls.

freshslicepizza3401d ago

it looks like its made for motion controls though. i guess its nice to have the option but it kind of takes away the value of motion controls.

Neonridr3401d ago

true, but for those who might want more of a "punch out" experience without all the swinging and moving this could be a good thing.

I agree that it seems to work nicer with the joycons and motion controls, but to each their own.

Well I'll definitely be buying this new IP day 1 then, was going to skip if the motion was mandatory, but I'm excited for it now. Ill use the motion but only if button play is included also!

I'm surprised people thought otherwise, because the presentation confirmed this.

Still doesn't justify this game being a full retail game. Who are they trying to fool selling this for more than the current asking price of AAA title. Arms is another game that looks like it should be a budget release, and if it was on PS4 or Xbone it would be nothing more than a budget downloadable title. Nintendo fans are going to jump down my throat and tell me "its about the fun, its about the game" but to compare this to massive AAA budget game that has had years or work and investment, voice acting recorded, script written... and then charge MORE than that.. just no.

Arm's is Nintendo out of touch. Trying to pass this off as a "big" game for the launch window. And yet again, Nintendo fans will desperately clamber for any game, due the lack of releases and then try and tell everyone else that its god's gift to man. Do Nintendo really think games like this are going to win gamers over, when the other machines are releasing games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Crackdown 3 and getting Multiformats like Mass Effect Andromeda and Red Dead Redemption 2... (not to mention rich back catalogs at this point)

The game is to expensive, and Nintendo is throwing stuff at the wall trying to stick to the wrong market. Casual gamers will come and go. Disappear as quick as they appear (See Wii) Nintendo HAVE to learn that the "core" gaming market is the most sustainable. They are more likely to buy your consoles at launch and support you throughout the consoles life cycle with game, dlc, season pass and online subscription purchases. As long as you keep them happy, by keeping up with the expectations that the competition consoles make, then they will continue to put money in your pockets.

Nintendo haven't showed a single Modern, western AAA title for Switch. Maybe Skyrim, but thats 5 odd years old. Nintendo need to invest in first party Modern, western AAA. End of, Until then, they can't succeed or hope to compete.

Neonridr3401d ago

didn't Skyrim just re-release for PS4 and XB1 before Xmas?

lellkay3401d ago

Yes a remastered version with mod support. It also wasn't priced at £59.99.

Neonridr3401d ago

@cha0sknightmare - all signs point to the Switch version being the remastered version as well.

mod support is possible, but that's up to Bethesda.

lellkay3401d ago

It may well be, but it doesn't change the fact Skyrim (A five year old game) is pretty much the ONLY AAA western game the Switch boasts.

Neonridr3401d ago

@cha0sknightmare - that we know of, yes

Although we did see Steep from Ubisoft and apparently For Honor is coming as well from them.

I hope to see more 3rd party support for this thing, but that will all depend on how well it sells.

Luckily they way they have done the motion controls in this one actually looks fun. Very fluid and natural movements for each action.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
