i was a huge animal crossing fan back on the gamecube days...It was totally different from what i normally plays at that time....
Hopefully this kills all these weird rumors now wanting to surface....

I personally still think that's one of the best animal crossing games but trust me give Animal Crossing new Leaf a chance I seriously believe it is one of the best animal crossing games and that maybe Animal Crossing make sense on a portable.

I still want a respectable sequel to Animal Crossing that actually progresses the series. This is a game that has so much potential it's a shame that a publisher like Nintendo has not respectfully progressed this series to what it possibly could be.

This is one of the many examples where I feel what's hurting Nintendo are the higher-ups in regards to the publisher with the designers have great ideas that likely are not allowed to be implemented I just don't believe that the people were making Animal Crossing simply want to keep making the same thing I actually believed they likely wanted to add so many other features.

It's to the point where I have a difficult time even believing that an animal crossing game is even taking any of these developers years to create when it sounds like it's a simple job of just porting the game over and just adding a couple new features I've never really felt like any of the animal crossing games after the Gamecube or actually legitimate sequels as much as just ports with some add-ons.

You would have to question the amount of time spent to develop in Animal Crossing exactly what was happening if it's basically the same thing with small changes?

Animal Crossing new Leaf is still a very very good Animal Crossing game but I still want more progression in the series.

If we're talking in general, then yes, Animal Crossing for Switch is bound to happen at some point. A new Paper Mario is likely, too.

I'm glad we at least already had a brief introduction to the system. Zelda is dope and if it launches with Switch it will be awesome. Just excited to see the games.

Animal Crossing: maaaayyyyyyyybe.
Paper Mario like Thousand Year Door: no chance in hell, especially not this soon after the latest Paper Mario release. Forget about it, not happening.
Smash Bros Melee HD: extremely unlikely (though not impossible). Best hope is Melee as a Virtual Console Gamecube title.

Price point we will get, and Zelda at launch is very likely if we go by Laura Kate Dale's and Eurogamer's reports.

I think an animal crossing is extremely likely but I agree with you with the last two are probably not happening anytime soon, if ever with melee HD

Also because they're Outsourcing Paper Mario anyway who's to say they're not working on one with some other team right now?

I also don't want melee on Virtual Console, I simply want an HD remaster with gameplay online.

I know it can't cost them that much money to produce.

If you want melee hd with online there is always netplay at anthers ladder. Surprisingly easy to set up, as long as your pc is gud enough.

Zelda is a must have for launch.

You mention Smash Bros Melee HD, which would be cool. I hope they could find a way to get GameCube games on the Virtual Console, and have them upgraded visually and frame rate. Don't count on 3DS games in this Switch presentation.
It's going to be 100% focused around the Switch because it's the reveal of the launch state of the console.
Later Directs may cover both at once, though.

It's a home console first and foremost; of course it's going to get ports of games from the last one. The majority of home consoles have done this.XD
That isn't a guarantee of anything regarding 3DS ports, especially considering architectural differences.
And there are a lot of good reasons why they wouldn't bother putting older 3DS games onto the Switch, not the least of which is control issues they'd have to spend dev time changing to make them work on Switch.

Newer ones are a different story, since they can just design the 3DS games without touch functions then make a Switch port, but I can pretty much guarantee that this presentation will be all about home console games for the Switch. Not 3DS games.
Closest you'll see to a 3DS section is maybe a Pokèmon Stars announcement.

But that's the secondary feature; its games so far are all home console games, its power is best when docked, the company itself calls the home side the main point, etc.
So, sorry, but no matter how much you want it to be just a handheld, it's not.
That's the facts.

In terms of scope, I can guarantee you that most of the Switch's games are home console games.
Taking them with you doesn't change their nature as bigger, home-console-type games.

It's a hybrid with a focus on playing HOME CONSOLE GAMES no matter where you are.

Show me a point, at any time, where the Switch has been shown to use the TV and console screen both at the same time.
Oh wait, you can't.
Because it doesn't.
But the 3DS and Wii U DID.
Hence why ports will be reworked, and why a large amount of ports from either are unlikely, if Nintendo is going to make a lot of newer software.
Especially 3DS, considering Switch is a replacement for Wii U first and foremost, so it makes more sense for it to get reworked Wii U ports over 3DS ports.

Look, I get it. You want Nintendo out of dedicated home consoles, and any reason to claim they've done so is a good reason to you, but you need to live with the fact that they aren't abandoning home consoles.
Making a hybrid isn't evidence of this; that's your wish, and nothing more.

Do not understand we are simply labeling the game on whether or not it can be played on a specific platform? We are not actually describing a specific genre any game regardless of quality can actually be a handheld or a exclusive Home console game.

Persona 3 is a good example it is a handheld game because it released for a handheld but it is also a Home console game because it also released for one as well.

There is no type of game that is exclusive to handheld or console...

Regardless of your rhetoric you can play Skyrim on the go on a handheld making Skyrim now also a handheld game.

What do you think handheld means? What do you think portable means? Because it sounds to me like you're purposely trying to change the definition to fit your own personal narrative because you cannot take that this company is releasing a portable.

I will say the Switch is a adorable machine but as of now just seeing SMO,Xenoblade-2 & the incoming Zelda game which all three look like fun games...it is not going to make me fork over 300 dollars to buy a Switch system.If I bought this right away it would just sit & collect dust until some great games drop,until then I'm happy with my PS4 Pro.

I think there is enough there with the launch line up to interest me. My problem is that I brought a WiiU. When it released, there was enough to interest me, but then it dwindled fast after that. Nintendo games are always pretty good, even the one's I'm not interested in. but I need more than that to justify spending $300 on a system.

Sadly, I doubt it's going to get a price drop anytime soon.

So, I think I'll wait it out on this one. I still have a tremendous backlog on my 3DS and Vita to flll my portable needs, and I'd rather make sure the system will be supported for the long haul, both by Nintendo(which killed WiiU too early) and 3rd party. If the system replaces Nintendo's current handhelds, then I imagine it'll end up being my replacement for the 3DS, and when the time comes, probably the Vita also.

i think that was mroe because those that already had PS+ were actually quite happy with the service up until that point. At the time, we didn't expect the quality of releases to diminish so quickly, and most of us were paying for the service for the games anyways, so it wasn't a big deal.

Plus....Sony weren't being MS....so they got a lot of forgiveness on some things.

Nintendo though......

That's a tough sell. They are pretty much unanimously agreed upon that they have the worst online service. There is practically no redeeming value to it that is worthy of charging a price for. It is less feature rich than the PS3, or even the dreamcast(when connected). So, trying to sell paying for it is hard when there is no indication as to what the quality will be.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out though. Maybe Nintendo has done something to make it worthwhile. Maybe they just think console players will pay eagerly since the other two companies have people begrudgingly paying for it.

We'll see I guess. I'm sure the biggest defense for it's inclusion will be...."Well you Sony and MS fans have been paying for it, so stop being hypocrites." nintendo fan boys have a special level of logic when it comes to defending Nintendo, and i expect this to be the biggest thing to get a few laughs out of them.

I saw several compelling games.

Mario, Zelda, XBC2, and SMT(although just a teaser). That SE old school JRPG might be worth a look too.

Both Mario and Zelda looked really good though. It's hard, but I probably won't pick one up early. I'm a bit reluctant, because I want to make sure it'll be supported well by more than Nintendo and a few 3rd party staples.

Plus, those controllers were extremely small. I mean, really small. Even when docked with the base connector, that thing just looks uncomfortable to use. Heck, my Samsung 4K TV remote(same as their smart TV line I believe) is bigger...and if you have one, you know how tiny that is.

Two launch titles announced, a bunch of games that are just starting development or won't be out until later this year at the earliest, and a strong indication that the whole "everything will play on the pro controller" thing is BS. Not blown away here, Nintendo.

I was expecting more, Zelda comes on the at release but its not a wordwide release it seems.Mario game looks ugly to many jaggies on those graphics,this machine seems weaker than the Wii U.Xenoblade 2 looks worst than Xenoblade X on Wii U .300euros in Europe without a game its not going to gain traction.Only 2 games at release...im a gamer and Nintendo fan and im disapointed.

I don't know about you guys but for me , the presentation was so boring. The only bright segment was the Zelda trailer , otherwise it was an awful presentation.
Nintendo still acts like there are no competition. 300$ consoles with paid online service , are you serious Nintendo ?

The only thing I can imagine is they give you access to the entire virtual console library for the paid online service. It's honestly the only thing that makes sense with that.

Seems like an interesting system and could actually be pretty fun but that battery life..and where are all the games. I'm very worried there will be very little 3rd parties on the switch and that conference didn't help.

Edit - For $299 it should have came with a game. Even the terrible 1-2 Switch is better than nothing.

Definitely day one for me , Mario Odyssey looks amazing as it has that Mario 64 vibe, which is something I've wanted for years. Zelda looks so good and I will be playing it on March 3rd.

Possibly the worst console reveal in history. Barely any games mentioned and from what i could tell only 3 ( ARMS, 1, 2 switch and zelda) revealed for launch. Seriously terrible. They also only spoke about the joy con, no info on what the console can do and the games look on a par with the wii u.
Xenoblade 2 looks good, but when will it launch. In addition some of the games mentioned didn't even have footage. But the most important thing is information on games being released in the first 3-6 months. This lack of info is terrible.

Aside from the price point, paid online, 2.5 - 6.5 hour battery life, cheesy poses & the poor looking games like "1, 2, Switch", along with that punching game, I thought it was a pretty good showing.

Mario looks good, different direction.
Zelda looks great but I hate the survival elements like equipment breaking & hunger.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was fantastic, love the artstyle change.
Project Octopath Traveler looked good.

They mentioned yet again that it's a home console, with handheld capabilities, not that it's a handheld with console capabilities.

Was a dreadfully dry conference...but that's kind of normal for a Japanese game conference.

I agree on the games though. Everything after the tech demo 1, 2, Switch and that punching game looked pretty good....although I wish these console makers would stop giving a platform to EA to announce and promote FIFA/Madden at their reveal conferences. Seriously, with all EA could have shown for Switch, they choose FIFA. After talking about how much support they were going to give it. Shades of WiiU all over again there.

Anyhow.

Like the console, didn't like the conference. Liked the games shown for the most part. Will probably still wait it out a bit before diving in after WiiU ended up disappointing. Although it's hard since Zelda and Mario did look pretty good.:)

I actually missed the paid online part. Hopefully Nintendo has something really compelling to make it worth it, because if is their current state of online, then absolutely not, and with the competition offering free games, Nintendo should probably as well....unless it's really cheap. Personally, since the games I'd likely play on the system would only be SP only, it probably won't affect me much though. But still sucks.

Exactly, and lots of those games were showcasing titles and sometimes cutscenes. Much of what they showcased they didn't even show playable sections. I.E. Vaporware.

You are basically asking people to buy a PS4 Pro which is up to 28x more powerful then undocked Switch.

The only must have game at launch is Zelda, and everyone can get that on their Wii U. SMH

The joy cons look small and uncomfortable, so yes, unless you are Tyrian Lannister you are going to NEED a pro controller.

People who wanted to buy this as a 2nd or 3rd or 4th gaming device are now going to have to justify ANOTHER paid online service? I think this is going to be a dealbreaker for many.

This thing screams $149 price point, but you decided to double it, add an online service, and take out the controller and give us almost no games with launch.

Plus 2.5-6.5 hour battery life. (far lower then the rumors)

This is literally worse then the worst case scenario. No one had it this bad.

$249 for PS4 or XB1S with a game and an actual controller and guaranteed AAA 3rd party support and far more powerful.

$399 for a PS4 Pro with even more power and a laughable power disparity between it and Switch.

What do they think the average gamer is going to buy? Not Switch.

Switch is for gamers who absolutely have to have a new Nintendo handheld.

Even $249 with no paid online and a better launch lineup was still going to struggle. Reality is actually far worse.

I think a good portion more would of bit at $199 and no paid online, but wow, simply wow.

For people that don't understand, I'm not saying that a certain niche won't enjoy and think it's worth the price. I get it, to each their own. I'm not judging YOU for wanting to buy it.

I'm simply saying Sony and MS have a product with much more value to the average gamer. Less price. A controller inside. PS+ or XBLive is a given. Much more power. Guaranteed AAA 3rd party support and a huge library. (and MS and Sony could cut their price, but after seeing the presentation there is literally NO reason for them to cut their price).

I can't believe Nintendo screwed up this badly. Portability is not a motion control fad. We all have cellphones and have seen/used handhelds since 1989.

Oh and I forgot, if you want to buy digital games so you don't have to run to Gamestop, or preorder or any of that hassle.... how are you going to store them? Will such people need to buy a hard drive on top of the rest?

If so, imagine this...
Switch $299
Controller $60
Online $50-60
Hard drive $50-150

Even if you take the lowest number from the above you are at $459. (and $409 on launch). That's MORE then a PS4 Pro.

...and then you still need to buy games.

Wow Nintendo. Simply wow.

Here’s my honest feelings on this… the wii u is better. Nintendo screwed fans over big time. It’s a matter of perspective and cant’ wait to play Nintendo games on my PlayStation.

Such a disappoint reveal:
-Wii u looks better than the switch
-Mario 3d land is better looking than Mario odyssey
-AMRS, possible worst fight game ever, definitely worse game name ever. If I want to play a good -fighting game I have smash bros wii u.
-Can play Mario kart 8 now on my wii u. not worth it to pay $350 for switch to play the rumored 16 new tracks for the switch version, but release them as DLC for Mario kart on wii u and I’ll get it
- never played a xenoblade game before but if I wanted to xenoblade x on wii u looks better that what was shown
-gimmicks didn’t work, HOW EXCITING I CAN FEEL LIKE I’M HOLDING A GLASS OF WATER
-joycons don’t look good or comfortable to me, too small. They need a wrist strap to make the L and R more pressable.
-poor graphics that unreal 4 game the leaf’s and vines were blurry. Environment is THE LAST OF US for ps3 looked better.
-jrpg’s shown looked like dressed up hi res PS2 games.
-boring to place Mario in the real world, other levels looked lacking details poor graphics. Was excited for a new home Mario game but this looks like a disguised portable Mario game.
-sega had nothing to announce just promise of game

-surprise! the EA game announced was FIFA how interesting… and the EA guy did not look excited. Messaging is off. Why would I want to go to a park to play fifa? If I’m at a park I’d rather actually kick around a ball. Not to mention battery would be crap screen brightness would need to be max outside.

-skyrim, welcome to 2013. Anyone interested in that game would of played it already. If not, you can get it cheaper and a better experience on another platform.

My friend and I watched the reveal and sincerely tried to get excited but it wasn’t happening. We realized were were giving them a pass on what was being shown because it was Nintendo expectations/standards were lowered. I said to my friend imagine this reveal was for the next xbox or playtation system and this is what was shown … and it sunk in. this was terrible.

Nothing shown made it seem switch is more powerful than wii u. so why is Zelda not coming to wii u? not willing to pay $300 +cost of game for Zelda. Zelda was teased with wii u reveal. And shown at VGA’s so long ago. Lots of people bought a wii u on the promise of getting to play the next Zelda. Now it’s not on wii u, what awful move by Nintendo. Fans should remember that and the bad treatment before investing in their next gimmicky system.

if you think of this as a wii u replacement it’s awful. But if you think of it as a 3ds replacement it’s a real beast of a portable and a step up. System missing an identity thought, is it a portable or home console? Don’t have the benefits of a powerful home console. Bad battery life and portability suffers.

I think this will flop and Nintendo will go 3rd party. Unless this is a 3ds replacement and they have something in store to replace the wii u, like a back up plan in case switch flops that they can say this is our next true home console. I realize Nintendo probably don’t want to compete with sony and microsoft. But I think their fans (at least me) just wanted a powerful home console that bested the ps4, ran 3rd party games excellently and let us play AMAZING looking first party Nintendo games with a no frills solid controller.

That new online service makes no freaking sense either, so must we have to depend on a smartphone to use it? Wtf?

I'm concerned, not really a good way to reveal a console. Sure zelda looks amazing, and I want it, but I won't throw $300 on this if I don't see where they are going with this,especially since it's coming out on their last gen platform. This is like a 2005 Sony E3/Microsoft 2013 disaster all over again

i feel sad, even with everyones replies being negative mostly, it is different then the sony vs ms battling that goes on over here, its like all of us gamers actually wanted nintendo to hit it out the park and make us want to buy this thing becuase hey its nintendo and their first party games are no joke, they are loved by everyone but as much as i want to love the switch , it simply isnt anything special and has so many down sides to it ,from battery life, to actual graphical power to the tiny controllers and even the price and this showing was terrible to boot. as many people here are saying, this will flop and nintendo switch will be the last console they make. We all know just by looking at this thing that it will have zero 3rd party supports months after it releases. Its a sad day. I know many people will run out to get it and i hope it does well but deep down i feel its a failure.

all they had to do was make a real home console and back it up with power to compete with the consoles now and coming(scorpio) and bring some new nintendo games and the 3rd party would follow. we would of ate it up. sad sad sad. how does reggie get on camera without feeling like a moron

I love it for the handheld aspect, not too caring to play on the screen, but for handheld......its perfect......the graphics perfect for a handheld....Japanese developers already showing love is perfect......and I know it will keep getting love from Japan because they love handhelds........I love JRPG.....they showed Xenoblade 2, Shin Megami, Square annouce like 6 games, and there are many more........and like I said......value it gives for a handheld is more than what the Vita gave when it came out.......and that alone make it the best handheld to come out

As I feared smh weak hardware at premium.price and of course Nintendo hiding specs like they always do as to not push consumers away. A whole bunch of ports and no really new or innovative IPS to get excited about. Online play you have to pay for but I won't complain about it ill just say "I told you sooooo!" And the free SNES and new games is a joke.

Nintendo being Nintendo, this system is worth like 200 at most and anything over 250 is highway robbery. I'm very disappointed smh.

Not at all a Nintendo hater and I wish they'd truly be a part of the hardcore gaming community again (last was N64, IMO). That said, the Switch is a no-go for me.

Zelda and Mario look amazingly fun but that's it. The specs are that of a $150-200 Android tablet but they're charging $300 a pop before a single game, controller, etc. "Special Tegra" is still a Tegra - think of a couple Galaxy 6 phones strapped together. 33gb? No. Sorry.

It'll sell big in 2017 and disappear soon after supply can meet demand. As soon as they're sitting on shelves, no pre-order needed, they'll stay there.

$299,99 ~ £250, considering you can get a brand new PS4 slim or Xbox One S with games bundled for that price particularly in the UK, the Switch is going to have to smash it out of the ballpark from day one to compete. No region locking which is good news for Switch games.

Online service free trial then a paid service in fall/autumn 2017.

Switch controller separates into two joycon meaning the console has two controllers out of the box with black wrist straps. Joycon have something called 'HD Rumble'. 1,2,Switch joycon specific and ARMS boxing game revealed (hopefully it's at least more responsive than the poor Wii Sports boxing game was).

Skyrim on Switch. Also custom Switch gameplay exclusive FIFA play anywhere (but judging from previous attempts at FIFA away from the usual Xbox 360/One and PS3/4 crowd, I don't think this might catch on well)

Sonic, Rayman, Dragonball Z, a Lego game, virtual console Street Fighter 2 shown, what looked like Bomberman, minecraft, Steep, Rime, that 'F Zero/Wipeout' tribute game forgot what it was called, NBA 2K18, Just dance, Farming Simulator.

Damn just I was getting my hopes up that Reggie wouldn't show up, that mug shows up :(

The conference was really bad, Nintendo has a lot to learn about making a good presentation. The first thing to ditch are those prerecorded videos of the producers, they are so cheesy!

The conference was very uninspiring and didn't do much to try and sell the system. I thought maybe it's just me, then I check the web and found similar responses. Let's see what happens. Good luck Nintendo.

That was pretty bad, I was interested in the switch because it was rumoured to be cheap at £200. But the UK retail is now £280, it's very unlikely I'd buy it anywhere near day one.

The announcement was hard to watch, games they gave a lot of air time to were poor games. Arms? really....Will see how year 1 support goes before I buy this now.

I missed the presentation so I'm gonna catch up on it with youtube, but right when it was revealed a couple months ago, I was left unconvinced. The former Nintendo fanboy in me who had an absolute blast with his NES and SNES (far less enjoying the Game Boy) wanted this to be Nintendo's answer to the PS4 Pro (or at least original PS4) and XBOX One S & Scorpio (or at least original XBox one), but alas, it looks like Nintendo is indeed the Rain Man of the industry right now, as in, an autist completely oblivious to what is it gamers want from a console nowadays, and incapable of communicating with the outside world (i.e. the third-party developpers). How many failures do they need to get a grip?
Well, this said they're filthy rich (not that you would know considering how underpowered their systems are, and how rather on the expensive side they sell them at), so they can afford to align consoles that will be commercial failure after commercial failure for the foreseeable future, but damn Nintendo, watch out, you're on your way out of the hardware business like your historic nemesis Sega...

Was it just me, or when you un-dock the console there is a massive performance drop, in the instance I noted, the FPS on Zelda tanked, albeit consistently. Think this will be the norm for games? Visuals are one thing (though you have a much smaller screen so they shouldn't lose THAT much fidelity if they are coded properly to possess this tandem function of big screen/little screen), but FPS taking a hit too?

that Zelda game looks freaking phenomenal - it might actually just convince me to buy the console despite my criticisms of their stance on specs (and with how amazing that game looks, just think about how it would be on a system that's as powerful as PS4/Xbox One...)
