Will Hideki Kamiya Release Scalebound as an Indie Project?

If going indie worked for Kojima, could it possibly work for Hideki Kamiya?

A game of this magnitude, of this scale, can't be bound for indie development

darthv723406d ago

I'd rather they file away the assets and begin work on another game. Namely Wonderful 102.

YinYangGaming3406d ago

It's Microsoft's IP. Whilst such optimism as this is admirable, it is also folly.

peewee110163406d ago

Its not a MICROSOFT IP... they drops and stopped FUNDING it there for no longer in there hands... LoL

RabbitFly3406d ago

You do understand how that has nothing to do with who owns the right to the IP?

Microsoft owns the IP so there is nothing really that Platinum can do. They will have to release all the assets as well and any development on a game of the same concept would most likely have to be started from scratch.

SCW19823406d ago

All these people saying the game wasn't coming together well don't realize that Kamiya has never made a bad game. Look at the games under his belt and weep.

PolishWingedHussar3406d ago

I'm a pretty big fan of Kamiya's work myself. Both Kamiya and Kojima are among my favorites in the industry. It's such a shame Microsoft cut the ties on Scalebound.

meka26113406d ago

Really? No bad game, what about the ninja turtles game? I mean it wasn't completely horrible, but also wasn't good.

SCW19823406d ago

He didn't make that, do some research.

Herbalistic3406d ago (Edited 3406d ago )

Platinum could take ideas from Scalebound and use them to create another Ip.They wouldn't be able to fund such a project on a small indie budget though

PolishWingedHussar3406d ago

Budget constraints is a good point. Platinum could turn the loss of Scalebound over to a positive, though they're so busy in 2017 the odds are slim unless the demand for the game continues into 2018. :(

The thing is, as long as they can "borrow" assets, a lot of the hard work is done. I'd have to assume, by what we saw, the assets and systems are locked in. The game is more than playable. So, it would really be fine tuning and story tweaking to move it far enough from litigation. Plus, not all indie budgets are equal. We aren't talking the garage indie with a team of 10. We are talking about a AAA team doing a passion project. They'd just need to find a publisher willing to take a risk. That being said, I don't see it happening any time soon. Platinum has a pretty busy load right now.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
