Don't put Mass Effect on this list, it's not an RPG anymore.

game4funz3353d ago (Edited 3353d ago )

Define rpg.

Not that I disagree of course.

moegooner883353d ago

Judging by the list, owning PS4 and 3ds guarantees playing almost all the scheduled RPGs.

Relientk773353d ago

Tales of Berseria
Nier: Automata
Persona 5
Vikings - Wolves of Midgard
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Ni No Kuni 2
Dragon Quest 11 (Release date?)
Legend of Heroes series: Trails of Cold Steel 3
Kingdom Come: Deliverance

2017 looks very exciting

No Horizon: Zero Dawn? I don't know if it's just me, but it's the first exclusive this generation I'm really interested in having Day 1. Until Ni No Kuni 2, that is, which is also Day 1.

Relientk773353d ago

I have Horizon preordered, It wasnt on this list -__-

yes, Ni no Kuni 2 day one as well

Omnislashver363353d ago

I'm looking into most of those games, but is Tales a good series? I mean is their lore as deep as FF?

DigitalRaptor3353d ago

Yes. I've no idea how it could possibly have been overlooked.

game4funz3353d ago (Edited 3352d ago )

Its not rpg. 3rd person open world action.

Is there level progression? Stats?

Weapon upgrades are not rpg elements.

edit:
My apologies. It does seem to have rpg elements.
I have not seen the most recent videos of the game it seems. Last I saw of the game was e3.
Thanks @Chris for sharing.

@edmix
go somewhere else with worthless attitude.
Are you saying all third person or open world are rpgs?? Doesnt seem like youve thought about your reply.

However now that I've seen that video im much more worried of the game being more mainstream and having content for the sake of content.

Christopher3353d ago (Edited 3353d ago )

It's an RPG. It's an Action RPG much like Mass Effect. There are levels in the games, specifically enemies have levels. I'm not certain if Aloy levels up, but there are skills for her to learn as she progresses.

Just FYI, RPG does not dictate all things of an RPG (leveling/advancement, exploration, story focus, etc.), .but it can be a hybrid like this one that combines action and RPG to be an ARPG. Most RPGs today are like this.

Edit: So, just watched a video. You do level up. Wasn't sure, so was watching the following video: https://youtu.be/N_FwNNC7Ts... it's a little after this point in the video.

_-EDMIX-_3353d ago

What I find the most strange about the majority of your post is that you don't even take the time to even research what you're talking about, a simple Google would actually answer your question that Horizon zero.dawn indeed is a RPG.

Is there a reason why an RPG could not be in third person or open world? Lol I see you didn't really think this through...

For All Its Flaws, Mass Effect: Andromeda's Approach to Romance is Something ME4 Can Learn From

While Mass Effect: Andromeda was let in several key areas, one of its approaches to romances is something Mass Effect 4 should consider revisiting.

I hope Mass Effect 4 ignores the inferior prequels and instead closely follows the far superior Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age Inquisition.

anast410d ago (Edited 410d ago )

Mass Effect 4 should just make Mass Effect 1 but better with current tech. Fans would be happy. As far as romance, they should take notes from the Witcher and Cyberpunk.

Ristul410d ago

Later Bioware games have to little build up. You can have a normal conversation and all of a sudden BAM! The character you talk to becomes super flirty.

TricksterArrow409d ago

Reminds me of Baldur’s Gate. I wanted to practice some magic and Gale made it super weird. Not even gonna mention Astarion.

gold_drake410d ago (Edited 410d ago )

iii dunno about that.

the only really great and funny dating partner, is that outlaw guy anyways haha he was funny as hell.

other than that, i found every character to be very annoying.

ZeekQuattro409d ago

Shout out to Keri the Asari reporter. Current relationship status be damned as she's game either way. Anything for a good story. 🤣

One of the best things about the Mas Effect series is the companions you meet along the way. So here is a tier list of all the companions from Mass Effect!

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast451d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine451d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast451d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman451d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast451d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

IAMRealHooman451d ago

it's like bitch but your shirt back on, your not blue or spikey get away from me

BioWare Thinks Mass Effect Andromeda Was Better Game Than Reception Suggested

BioWare thinks Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than what reception suggested; taught the studio not to shoehorn open-world without any meaningful content in it.

thorstein487d ago

I played it and it wasn't as bad as people said. Is it in the 8-10 range? No.

It's a 6-7, which means it's a solid game.

LordoftheCritics487d ago (Edited 487d ago )

Veilguard and Andromeda are of similar level to me.
6 to 6.5 ish

Though I think i enjoyed Andromeda's combat and sense of scale a little bit more.

XBManiac486d ago

Veilguard has better graphics.

neutralgamer1992486d ago

I agree with you It was a 6.5 type game. Gameplay was solid everything else was lacking. Playing at launch with all the issues was just absurd. EA could have let the developers keep patching and fix the game but they stopped just like they did with anthem. It’s crazy to think multi billion dollar publishers can’t afford to keeping patching their games get medium size developers can support the game for years

But when you have android wilson running the company what else can we expect.

OtterX486d ago

Except 6-7 doesn't translate as solid. 6 means a bit flimsy, but still good/enjoyable if you can look past the flaws. 7, a little less flimsy, and enjoyable. 8-10 would be "solid".

But I get your point. I skipped the game entirely, so I don't have an opinion on it.

H9487d ago

I played this game back when I wanted to give every game I bought a fair chance and finish it, it was the reason why I stopped doing so, god the game was bad

TheNamelessOne486d ago

I actually enjoyed Andromeda. It wasn't a 10/10, by any means, but I played it years after the fact, after a lot of patching, and I had a good time with it.

anast486d ago

Same, I enjoyed it too. I might even replay it soon.

TheNamelessOne486d ago

Might do the same, honestly. Went through the trilogy a couple months back.

raWfodog486d ago

I liked it as well, and also played it for the first time over a year after it was released. The original trilogy was a better story overall IMO but I still enjoyed Andromeda.

lellkay486d ago

The game is so unbelivably bad, it's laughable.

pwnmaster3000486d ago (Edited 486d ago )

It really wasn’t. Well for me nd I’m a big fan of the series.
Was it mass effect standard? No
But overall I thought it was a decent game.
6-7/10.

Armaggedon486d ago

You might want to try playing a truly bad game. Go boot up two worlds or gollum to get the perspective you need

MatrixxGT486d ago

Wow, two worlds…red ringed my 360.

Armaggedon486d ago

Lol. Its one of the only games that I have experienced buyers remorse with. The only one I can think of is riders Republic.

matt139486d ago

So delusional, the title was an embarrassment to the original trilogy. it’s the equivalent of 2042 to the battlefield franchise.

thorstein486d ago

2042 had a redemption arc and what exists now is a pretty good FPS.
