Resident Evil 7 PC Gameplay (4K Performance)

The Resident Evil 7 demo released on PC yesterday offering a wealth of options to tinker with to suit various hardware configurations. Here’s the game running at 4K resolution using a GTX 1080 with most of the settings cranked up to their fullest although HBAO+ is disabled as this pushes the frame rate below acceptable levels at 4K.

The author posted the following disclaimer which you missed. I'll quote:

"Please note: The video shows the performance of the game running at 4K as indicated by the various numbers on the top left of the screen. At the time of posting, the video is still being encoded by Youtube to playback at 4K which offers the best viewing option."

so... it means that by the social trending and all fame by economy and success on video websites and such;
yet all still to be poor for not displaying a window sized monitor at the desk performing 4k-8k resolution AND experience;
silhouette players, amazing;

WDHellS3459d ago

like game walkthrough no commentary - WHAT high resolution really look like - on a big screen monitor;
guess that's the thing;

The_Sage3459d ago

So you didn't make any sense of that either. Whew... I thought I might have had a stroke there for a second.

Your comment sounds like something a google AI prototype might randomly generate.

Far, far more interested in seeing it with HBAO+ rather than 4K.

Eyesoftheraven3459d ago

While HBAO+ and beyond add a lot to render quality, it is a hard preference to prefer over 4k. Anyway i suspect it'll run fine on release. HBAO+ seriously murders framerate here to an unusual degree.

1nsomniac3459d ago

4K through a compressed YouTube video is going to show little to get excited over or even meaningful.

HBAO+ however will add graphical effects adding to the overall games environment. Hopefully bringing it to the next level. Which is why it's a performance hog.

Surely the immersion in a game like this is much more important than a slightly higher resolution?

Just sounds like another journalist fallen on the buzzword hype train.

Lower the resolution slightly, max every graphical setting, then play it optimally. Rather than crippling yourself purely so you can say "look at me guys I can be in the 4K club too!"

Eyesoftheraven3459d ago

My point was just that HBAO+ normally isn't so demanding. It literally costs half or more of the framerate. That is very unusual and will likely be addressed in drivers.

Critic4l_Strik33459d ago

Im confused about this game still...Is this demo related to the previous resident evil games? Separate story? Zombies? Umbrella? Is it now more of a investigation type of game compared to an actual TPS? HALP!

NukaCola3459d ago

The story revolves around a character who has gone to look for his wife after she contacted him over the phone years after she died.

The baker family is an infected group of people and they own this extremely intricate home you play in.

There is no word yet on how this game ties into the rest of the story but there are going to be monsters and an infection in the story. I do not think this is a zombie game per se, but more about the virus.

This game is very much like the original Resident Evil except it's in first-person perspective. It does not play like a first person shooter nor does it play like Outlast or all their first person horror games. The first person view is here because of the VR experience. You will still be in a mansion style house with keys and herbs and puzzles just like old-school Resident Evil. They are just modernizing the way the game plays.

I hope this helps

I loved RE7, especially in VR. However for me it'll have to be God of War for GOTG

-Foxtrot2215d ago

Urm...no

Wouldn't even make the top 10

Resident Evil 2 Remake was better anyway

Concertoine2213d ago

It depends on how much stock you put in it being basically the first AAA VR game, the first solid VR horror experience, and it being the beginning of RE returning to the more old school nonlinear gameplay.

The game was good, my problem is that just when it starts to border on more than good, it ditches that metroid-y design that made the older games so satisfying to figure out. Also, the puzzles and enemies suck compared to the classic RE's.

I would also say RE 2 remake would be my preference, but the puzzles also still suck in that game.

kungfuian2215d ago (Edited 2215d ago )

RE7 in VR is as much like being in a lucid nightmare as it is playing a game. Nothing like it! Easily earns a spot in the top 5.

That said I'd still have to give the crown to Bloodborne! Nothing comes close to the level design, atmosphere, and overall immersion of that game.

Honorable mentions to Breath of the Wild for its amazing open world physics sandbox gameplay and sense of exploration, and Horizon for its gorgeous world, satisfying bow and arrow combat, and incredible enemy design.

Poopmist2214d ago

Solid game but not close to GOTG. I'd go with Witcher 3 for that. Ghosts or Cyberpunk have a chance to maybe take that spot though.

Nacho_Z2213d ago

Agreed about Resi 7 and good shouts for the others, I think Cyberpunk is going to be amazing.

At this point though Bloodborne is the GotG for me.

xenz2213d ago

Bloodborne... really?

2213d ago
PurpHerbison2213d ago

Agree on Bloodborne being GotG.

Nacho_Z2213d ago

@ xenz

Yep really, it's an incredible game if you enjoy the genre. Something genuinely special that comes along very rarely.

What would you put forwards?

PurpHerbison2213d ago

I'd imagine a lot of people powered through the game only concerning themselves with gameplay, and if that is the case then I can see how someone might not consider it. But if you go into the game and really pay attention to what it has to offer it is easily GotG. The lore alone in that game absolutely dismantles every other game out there.

EDKICK2213d ago

I mean I can see why people love it, especially in VR but I don't think it's even close to the best stealth horror game this gen. The last third or so really bring the game down imo.

Tacoboto2213d ago

It felt so tonally different compared to the earlier parts of the game. Maybe VR's GotG, preceding Half-Life Alyx.
