Statistically speaking, gamers are more inclined to play home console games, and home consoles themselves, on the couch.
ESPECIALLY when it's been CONFIRMED that a hybrid system like this one only shows its peak performance when it is played at home, in its dock.

You're also making the assumption that current 3DS owners don't sit at home and play their 3DS's more often than they travel with them and wouldn't treat the Switch the same way.

Face it, buddy; most people are going to play the Switch at home.

I wasn't happy because mine lasts 3 hours max. That's for a controller with no screen or wifi. Its horrible. My WiiU tablet lasts 7 hours. 7 is amazing for a portable but I have the optional better battery. For Switch I expect 3 hours maybe? The Shield Portable had great battery life but it was really premium and bulky. The GPD Win pushing 720p games like Skyrim, Dragon Age, Fallout 3, or Valkyria Chronicles gets about 2-3 hours if the game is taxing. For me its no biggie since I will carry a case and charger on the go like my Win. Mostly though I will use on a tv or toilet.

Even if you are comparing OEM quantities for cartridges they are still very much more expensive than OEM quantities of Bluray disks so that is a turn off to some third party gaming companies.

That said if you have a portable then cartridges are the best way to go but performance wise against an SSD they are relatively slow. Still, they are about on par with a hard disk drive which can have a read speed of 80MB/sec to 100MB/sec depending on the model.

So getting around to your question. Yes in the early days cartridges were very much faster than optical drives such as CD, DVD and Bluray (27MB/sec for PS4). This is why Sony and Microsoft opted for hard disk drives for the PS3 (optional and partial install), PS4 (mandatory full installs) XBox (partial install), Xbox360 (optional install) and XB1 (mandatory full installs).

Modern day cartridges are equal to or better than the performance of a Hard Disk Drive but you will pay a premium for the privilege. They are very much slower and of lesser capacity than an SSD and SSD's are dropping in price very quickly.

Not really. Load times will most likely be comparable to those found in the PS4, because PS4 runs all of its games from the hard drive; all games must be installed, and the PS4 only takes a quick read of the disc to confirm you have the game, then it reads everything else from its HDD.

Although the Switch probably won't be handling games as graphically intensive as those found on PS4, so it will load its games faster. There's a big difference between trying to load up Mario 3D World and Witcher 3, for example.
