They lost so hard, that all they can do now is post viral information against bluray...when they know bluray will big super big starting now.

wait couldn't a normal dvd disc have the ability to hold 1080p videos? but the problem being space hence blu-ray. THis technology that they are talking about is going to hold a movie on a dvd disc that is dual layered and 16GB in total somehow, okay so really whatever resoultion they are talking about could also be held in blu-ray with more features too. As its really 16GB of their DVD(modded and dual layered) vs 50 GB of Blu-ray(dual layered). Hm i say this is pointless because to even buy one movie would be 40 bucks.

These companies are just wasting time, money and resources to fight something that just doesn't make sense. Better than 1080p? Show me a TV that is higher than 1080p and is consumer friendly. You can persuade the average joe to trade in his 92 toyota for an 08 Lexus but you'll have a harder time persuading him to trade in his 08 Lexus for another 08 Lexus that's just been made a month later and shinier. Unless these discs are 200gb capacity, incredible seek speeds and is coated in diamonds so it can never scratch and has a data retaining capabilities to survive 100,000 years after a nuclear war they might as well just call it a day and do something else for a few years. Like make sock puppets or something..

Blu-Ray has this generation. Some people just need to accept it. Learn from Toshiba.

I assume it could be some uber high-end disc for AV-enthusiasts so they could watch Fifth Element on 2450p on their fancy projectors and 8.3 surround sound systems..
The company makes high end projectors so it all makes sense.. not.

its way to late for these guys, they must have money to waste. plus i never heard of them. an dif i never heard of them, then the average consumer will go with Sony over them.

Give it up. I know denial is a b!tch, but Bluray is here and it's going to last. Millions of PS3's on the market and it beating HDDVD to a pulp is going to be proof on that. Just as the PS2 helped push DVD's, the PS3 with it's trojan horse of a Bluray player will keep it on the market.

Oh and anyone remember when DVD's came out and there were these other fringe formats trying to get a foot in the door on the market? I think one was DivX even or something close.. Just stupid.

Unless MS works with them and makes another add-on player *guffaw*.

This is why I'm not buying Blu-ray, it's just not going to last. Why waste your money. A better format is just around the corner!

Blue Ray is industry backed. No matter how good something is if its not industry backed than it will FAIL. Companies already committed to blue ray and it will cost them too much to change now. Sony won end of story all you companies move on and wait another 10 years before you decide to show off your next idea.

I cant believe people are going back to this whole HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray nonsense. It's over folks. Move on. Blu-Ray has 100% movie studios backing it up now. Transformers is Blu. Iron Man is Blu. The Dark Knight will be Blu. So on and so forth. Get a life and realize that!

LOL, this is only for their $32000+ home cinema set that comes with a dedicated PC!!! to provide a HD picture to their 30k+ front projector. The disks, being dual layer double sided DVD with 16GB max storage will need to have completely high compressed RAR files instead of the movie and the PC will then unpack the video material.

For some reason i fail to see a mass customer appeal there ...

So really all they did was just increase the storage space of double sided dvds to the equivilant of taking 2 dvd9 discs and gluing them together. That's pretty cool, too bad it won't replace Blu ray though, not a chance. The smallest blu ray disc (that I know of.) holds up to 30 gigabytes, nearly twice the amount of these new double sided dual layer dvds.

I got the 360 drive and some free movies and it really isnt that bad. I know that it is dead but now is a good time to score some cheap hd thrills or wait until the same movies are released on blu. I dont know about the rest but there are likely to be few studios willing to invest more content into the blu version of a movie they released on hddvd. Transformers is an example of wanting to put more stuff into the disc to take advantage of the space but like I said before. Not every studio who will rerelease their movies on blu will go to the same extent.

I still have laserdiscs that are now collectors items more than anything else. Having multiple copies of the same movie is ok for me so long as there is something to justify my purchase of them. Like star wars on laser disc and then special edition on dvd. Cant wait for the hd version to come out.

Those who would ridicule hddvd should do themselves a favor and get a 360 drive and use it on their pc. I have experimented with ripping the files and converting them to HD divx files just to see how to do it. The movies are really very good, especially now at the clearance prices.

Only a few things matte with the storage medium:
- Storage space
- Transfer speed

The rest is up to the codecs - which is software based. So if they waffle about a smaller disk space but new superfangled coded - then it is kind of stupid - because the new superfangled coded will be available to BR players with a firmware update. If the space is more than BR - but the price is double as well - then what will their push in the market be? PS3 brough BR to the market like the PS2 did for DVD. What will be their mass consumer device to give it traction?

Just like the processor, mainly stopped around the 3ghz mark.

Although for discs, obviously they are going to get bigger for data purposes, But you don't really need a bigger format then 1080p.

People going on about 60-70inch screens, most people wouldn't want a bigger tv then 50inch.

My point is this.

1080p, enough quality. ALot of people can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p.

Well dur. Better tech comes out ALL the time. This isn't even remotely surprising. Problem is that they need back up. They need connections.

Sony has them, and they're settled. Not gonna matter what anyone else comes up with unless it's CHEAP and gorgeous.
